Terrible bar. Go anywhere else. What a bad experience. Beware: they take your ID with your credit card if opening a tab and it caused us to miss a flight because the ID was left at the bar overnight. Who requires patrons to give over their ID to buy a drink? This practice is literally unsafe and borderline illegal. Staff is unfriendly. Bouncers are rude. The experience isn't worth it. There are so many other bars in the area, you can go literally anywhere else. No wonder there is a line outside the bar next door while no one is entering this bar. I've been to almost all of the locations in NYC, Philadelphia and New Jersey. They're all great and consistent. This location is in an easy to find location near the waterfront. The food is really good just like the other locations. It's all gourmet bar food fare. They have a nice list of local craft beers too. The games selection varies by location. Hmmm. To be clear, in Philadelphia the law says someone under the age of 21 may enter a bar if accompanied by a parent/legal guardian *or* another adult of at least age 25. So if a bar refuses to allow someone under the age of 21 inside when those requirements are met, it's a 100% optional policy that they are certainly entitled to enforce if they so choose. I say this because I swung by Barcade this afternoon with a friend to grab a beer at like 5PM. Just on a whim, really, because I've never been. I am 46 years old, completely bald with a long gray beard. There is simply no logic that would suggest I'm under the age of 21, yet I completely understand that some bars - despite a visual assessment based on common sense - will not serve anyone without an ID, no exceptions. Today we were already sitting at the bar, and I had already ordered a cider and a shot of fireball which was literally already poured and placed on the bar in front of me. Unfortunately I did not have my ID on me because this morning I took it out of my wallet it photograph it to confirm my identity for an online purchase, and didn't put it back in. So when I took out my debit card to pay and was asked for ID, I couldn't show it. So the bartender immediately took away the drinks. Of this I can be completely understanding. Fine. I can't drink. My friend, however, also in his late 40's, very much had ID, and we asumed that he could go ahead and order and then we could hang out and play the video games this place is so well known for. We were actually told we had to leave immediately and that I was not allowed to even remain inside the bar, full stop. I cannot stress to you enough that the bar has every right to create and enforce such a policy, despite the fact that *legally* speaking, in the state of Pennsylvania they are allowed to let someone in my position to remain as long as they do not drink and are accompanied by someone over the age of 25. They choose not to. That is their prerogative. I think their prerogative is stupid, so I won't come back again (with my ID). Everybody wins, I guess. *shrug* read more

Barcade passed the vibe check upon my first sight at all the retro arcade games. After all, who could ever have a bad time when they're surrounded by some of their childhood favorite games? At least for me, I could say that I was as happy as can be to see Street Fighter and Tetris set up right next to each other. And as a bonus, each game only costs 50 cents per round. I seriously can't remember the last time I've been in an arcade where games only costed that much. Out of our group of friends who went there for a hang out, I probably was the only one who geeked out the most at all the games there to the point where I can't speak of their food, drinks, or service since I was too far gone in the consoles to focus on anything else other than button smashing. The only thing I regretted was that I didn't notice there were more games in the front part of the bar. It's okay though. It won't be long before I return there for my next rounds. We stopped by Barcade with some friends after a concert at the Fillmore. You can get quarters with cash from a machine at the bar. It had a great variety of games (I'm partial to the classics: Dig Dug, Frogger, Galaga, etc., but it had lots of different kinds of arcade games - something for everyone). We were there on a Saturday night after a concert let out, so it was pretty packed (you definitely had to keep your eyes on the game you wanted to play next to run over when the person playing it was done). I felt a little old for the crowd (lots of people looked college-age or early 20s), but that almost made it more fun! The drinks were okay, regular bar fare. Fun, but packed like sardines! And I spent a lot since I'm arcade skills have atrophied a bit! I guess I need to practice more! Maybe I'd practice here if I lived in Philly! read more

I wanted to get out of our usual go-to areas of Old City, South Street, or E Passyunk. My partner in crime found Barcade in the Fishtown area. So one rainy Saturday we schleped up there. What a great find! 1st it's as if Paddy's Pub & Gameworks had a baby named Barcade!. Industrial loft vibe, tons of old school arcade games and rows of picnic tables. They had me a Bloody Mary. By far the best I had in Philly. Street tacos were tasty too. Deviled eggs Just like I used to make. The staff was really nice, bartenders accommodating. And the best part - I'm still a pinball queen - not quite a wizard - but got the high score on Willy Wonka. BAM! Such a fun place. Definitely want to come back. But is it Chubby Chick friendly?? Be mindful when you go. The double digit IQ security flexes on everyone that goes in there. My wife was directed to throw a bottle of water away in a bucket at the first security checkpoint and when we got to the second checkpoint the guy had a meltdown because she threw it in the bucket and not a trash can. He really flipped out when he was explaining to me why there was a bucket there and I told him that I didn't care about the bucket or why it was there. The place lost a lot of money because of his unprofessional, uppity behavior. We can spend our money elsewhere and I suggest you do also. read more

Came here with a group today for a night-before wedding celebration. The bride's ID didn't scan and she wasn't allowed in (It was a legal ID, not a drivers license). When we asked the bouncer and bartenders, we were told it was management's policy, and there was nothing they could do. BE WARY if you have a different form of ID. I've been to this location twice before. Once in a Saturday night where it was absolutely packed like sardines. Then just recently on a Friday afternoon around 3, there were a few groups but never had to wait for a machine. There's both indoor and outdoor seating here. The drinks are pretty cheap and the drafts change occasionally depending on the season. Staff are friendly and for the most part everything is clean. My favorite machines to play were capcom vs marvel, crazy taxi, bubble bobble, and dig dug. Always fun to come and drink while playing a few games. read more

What person doesn't want to relive their youth? I mean seriously you have arcades that we grew up on, great tacos that aren't expensive. Taco night people! No more bad case of the Mondays here when it's consider taco night. Chorizo for the win, with a side of their bacon mac and cheese! A great lineup of frosty crafts that is always rotating to keep us well hydrated, while we beat the crap out of that joystick. If you're not into crafts they do have some great concocted cocktails for you to enjoy. Clearly the libation gods will approve in your decision. Fishtown knows how to get people together for a great time filled with laughter, along with our inner competitiveness wanting to come out and annihilate the person next to you. Solid 4 folks. I've been to another bar similar to this in Las Vegas. I was invited here by a friend, and I'm glad I was. Really cool bar. Lots of old school video games and pinball to play. Games like Punchout, Daytona USA, and lots of pinball options. They have an excellent selection of craft beer as well. I had the Brewmasters Union IPA, the Boardwalk Blackberry Saltwater Taffy IPA, and the Pumpking. The bartender even gave me a free taster of the Operation Breakfast coffee stout. Food options were limited. I had the mac & cheese, which was great. I didn't get to stay as long as I wanted because I had to go to a concert, but if I'm ever back in Philly, I'll be sure to return. read more

If you love vintage arcade games and want a little nostalgia come to Baracde! It's a dimly lit brick and mortar bar with the best drink options and decent food. I stopped in while in Fishtown because I've always wanted to check it out and didn't realize it was literally down the street from The Filmore. I had a chorizo quesadilla and a carnitas taco. The chorizo tasted more like ground beef than chorizo but tasted pretty good. The carnitas taco was a pretty solid taco for bar food. Thee service was ok. Barcade is a great place because of its cheap prices and great proximity to other locations. A whiskey sour costs me $6 and very filling nachos (which could feed two people) is anywhere from $7 to $10 based on extras you decide to get. Be wary of the carne asada. It's a funny tasting meat. In terms of the video games I would suggest bringing a $5 bill for each person and that should suffice for the night as the games are pretty cheap-about $0.50 a play- and also you're bound to find free tokens laying around either because people leave them behind or they don't check the coin return slot on the machines that don't work. Consistently you'll find that some of the machines eat your money and I know select few to check when I'm running low on tokens haha. I wouldn't be surprised if Barcade intentionally doesn't fix these machines as a way to save money. But if video games do eat your money just go to the bartenders and tell them how much you lost and they will give you your tokens back. The best games to play in my opinion areBattle Royale Pac-Man and NBA Jam. These of course have the longest wait times. The crowd tends to be on the less affluent side as this is Fishtown and has a close proximity to Temple so you'll see many college students here for better or for worse. If you get tired of barcade you can check out Garage, which is a block down, or the Fillmore / Punchline Philly, which is the opposite way, also a few blocks away. And Barcade also has a great proximity to SugarHouse Casino which has late night food as well. There's some Chinese food there that is legit! read more

I love how fishtown is developing into a culturally sound hotspot for us Philadelphians! This barcade is a branch of the main in brooklyn. We went there as we had reservations to Suraya later that evening. It's a full service bar with multitude of arcade type games and a mid sized open yard. We got a couple of whiskey cocktails and went over to the games. You can get coins from the 2 machines for the games. We also ordered the spicy chicken nachos and they were delicious!!! Stopped by here because we were waiting for dinner and this place was close by. Came here late afternoon on a Saturday. Place was really large. They have a really good selection of beer and ciders. I'm personally not a huge fan of beer so opted for a cider. The cider selection was so interesting! We got the honey ginger cider, it came in a normal beer glass and was only $6! Coming from NYC, this was an amazing price. Usually you get $6 beer in a bottle but this looked like it was on tap so that's super awesome. I was so surprised I liked the taste of the honey ginger cider - it tastes like ginger ale but not as sweet and a little less bubbly, it was literally perfect since the weather outside was so hot, this felt like a little alcoholic detox. The rest of the bar was also really fun. I really liked that there was a bunch of games we could play and try out after (we tried a racing game, you can do 1v1). Nice Barcade in Fishtown area. The bar is a good size with plenty of seating. They have a couple different change machines fro easy access. There are a good selection of games to choose from including multi-player games to play with friends. Tip- A super fun game they have is a target shooting game over by the bathroom. I was so excited about hitting up Barcade. They have tacos, lots of drafts on tap and so many great classic video games what more could you ask for? Well..quite a bit! When walked in the temperature jumped up 30 degrees instantly. Everyone was sweating. It was chilly outside and most of us had coats with no place to leave them. The games are side by side like a typical arcade. Unfortunately the place develops quite a line for the bathroom and with game lines up right next to them it gets to becomes way to close for comfort. I wish that i could talk about the food but it was so warm and seating was so limited that we opted to leave and eat elsewhere. As for the drinks, I love cider. Sadly I didn't like the only one on draft and there were no bottle options. So much for a selection for me. I'd totally go back for the games. Most were only .25 each. I would probably plan to go back at a time I would think was less crowded and I'd plan to leave my coat in the car and to grab drinks and food elsewhere. Basically I'd treat this location like an arcade more then a bar or eatery. read more

This place had some of the highest drink prices in the area, so I would suggest pregaming but then that kinda defeats the whole point of this being a Barcade, doesn't it? The games here are pretty cool. There's a large variety of games here for everyone. A lot of older nostalgic ones here too. There's a good amount of machines so you're never really having to stand in line to play (unless you're dead set on some specific games only). Everyone who comes here if friendly and chill and people love plying against each other too. There's no tickets or prizes or tournaments (to my knowledge) here. It's all a laid back atmosphere to come play for a bit and then sit by the bar or out in the courtyard area.
