I really wanted to like this place because the menu looks amazing, but I can't help but have a beef (heh) with BarBQ.
I think they either look a lot of liberties when naming their dishes, or they just felt like changing recipes and never updated the menu.
The Philly cheese steak sandwich ($118) could be, at best, a cheese steak hoagie (because for some reason it has lettuce and tomato, and the bread is not a hoagie either) if only they would slice the meat. Yes, we're talking about a Philly cheese steak with a full lettuce leaf, two thick slices of tomato, and three full pieces of steak. Not sliced and browned, so it mixes well with the onions and cheese, but three thin steaks. That's definitely not a Philly cheese steak sandwich, it was like a sandwich de lomito on steroids.
We also ordered pulled pork, that comes with a side of cheddar-covered fries ($169). The fries are super soggy, and despite the amount of cheddar being more than generous, they were still pretty terrible. Then, to our surprise, the pull pork comes as-is: a neat little pile of pulled pork meat well-seasoned. Isn't it weird to just... grab a fork and go at it? Shouldn't this pulled pork be in between hamburger buns, or at least some bread? It was just a pile of meat.
To be fair, we didn't order the ribs which seem to be their specialty. But it was so strange to order two dishes and have them be so different from what they are supposed to be.
I wanted to like this place so badly because of their interesting menu, but I think it's quite expendable. I'm not sure of where one can get a Philly cheese steak in the area, maybe Subway? And Brandon (the restaurant) has a pretty good pulled pork hamburger ($155).
I'm certain BarBQ can improve and do much better, but someone needs to let them know even though Shakespeare said "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet", whatever you're selling as a Philly cheese steak didn't taste like one at all. read more
