They have a really neat and spacious shop and their barbers all are truly skilled. Especially, the one that cut my hair. She was so knowledgeable and especially patient with me giving a long winded and neurotic explanation to what I was trying to get. She did a wonderful on the fade pattern, fade line, trimming with the shear work. It was really relaxing to get my haircut done by Antoinette. I'm definitely coming back to her again and to that shop. I finally have found a place with competent and adequate barbers. UPDATE 11/20/2025 Ok, so I would like to keep my above statement as a fact, but I can't. I measured my hair two weeks later and found that she cut the left side 3/4 inches to 1 inch shorter than the right side. So, I don't know if this is due to the fact that my head is not perfectly round, my hair line us unevenly receding, if this due to something that all the barbers from the coast of Oside and the barbers a few miles from that area are trying to convey to me and each other, but yeah.... She even faded the left side more than the right when it came to moving around the crown's edge... When I even asked to avoid making that specific mistake that most of the barbers i Oside make; she was confused as to what part of the head I was referring to... should have honored that as the first sign to dip. read more

I came in and asked the lady that I was growing the hair on the back of my head. I didn't want any length cut on the back. I've been growing it out for almost 2 months. Barber Shop Express does have an in-store ATM, "Automatic Thieving Machine" that charges a $2.25 transaction fee in addition to whatever fee your own bank may charge. The total fee paid for a mere $20 withdrawal was $4.75; that's almost 25% of the amount I withdrew. So, to make it completely clear, CASH ONLY and bring it with you... Simple, the cash only policy was something I should've learned prior to going to the shop, that little hiccup is on me. Verdict: 5 Stars (Solid) The shop was well lit, spacious, clean, and "comfortable." It had a nice feel, even with "The Price is Right," playing on the TV; they're not perfect. Mellisa, very personable, open & friendly. She asked me what I wanted; told her just a basic standard cut, cleaned up, take some of the weight out. If I wanted fancy designs shaved into the side of my head, I'd hire a gardener for topiary work. Noways it's challenging to find a no nonsense, back to basics, solid haircut. About 90% of yelp* searches for a barber shop had mostly photos of fades; the other 10% were salons with the majority of images being of the shops or hair products. If you look hard enough, you can still find the classic, simple barber shop. Now, make no mistake, Melissa said that she can do a great fade; in fact she said that it's a more difficult cut than a basic one. She also cuts women's hair but does not offer any chemical treatments, "I'm strictly a haircut specialist." Melissa: Would you like me to trim your eyebrows? Me: Does it need it?... (I barely finished the question) Melissa: Yes. Me: *laughs (When did I become Eugene Levy?) I added, "So basically, that's your nice way of saying, 'Damn son, shave those things!'" Melissa laughed. Great barber shop!! Been taking my kids there since we moved here in July 2017. My oldest son is in ROTC so he gets a military fade and I'm never disappointed. My youngest son gets the cut that's in style right now with a hard part and I'm never disappointed with that either. I am totally spoiled now that I have frequented Barber Shop Express. My previous haircuts were in salons where time differs between 30 minutes to upwards of 5 hours depending on what you want. My first visit started with a 15-minute wait on a Sunday morning. Now if you're not familiar with this area, Sundays are when the military guys get their cuts. There are a mix of male and female barbers. Sunshine was very friendly and she trimmed my hair in a jiffy. I couldn't believe that I was done in 10 minutes and my cut looked really good. ___, | \ Another time was during the .\* \\ week because I wanted a . \ \\ quick trim before a weekend . \ \\ getaway. I have been coming to the barber shop for roughly a year and a half, every Sunday. First thing I would like to say is, make sure you have cash when you come or pull from the ATM which charges you $2.25 plus whatever our bank charges you. My follow-on statement is that, this place is amazing. I have never gotten a bad haircut once my entire time coming here. Melissa and Lupe have been the ones that usually cut my hair and they always do a great job. They get along great with my family and I joke that if it wasn't for them they probably wouldn't realize I am a regular. It's also true considering I had been coming for roughly 4 months and once I started bringing in my daughter then my son, I finally got remembered. But great atmosphere in this place, all the barbers are great and do great. It's $10 for military and $15 for everyone else plus extra for the extra stuff. I also wanted to get away from franchised saloons as they are always full and busy. So I went for a haircut, there were 3 barbers present, two were waiting, so yep no lines. I found this place because I was looking for a barber closer to where I live. The five stars is because the overall experience was great. Location was my initial reason for coming in, the great haircuts and people are what kept me coming. Great spot to get military cuts, as most people do in the area. Waits are usually pretty short, if at all during the week. Weekends are very busy, but they have plenty of chairs open to speed it up. If you're really trying to get in quick, avoid Sundays due to the high volume of military all day. Great overall environment and awesome atmosphere with the military decor, but they do regular cuts and I see plenty of non-military go through. Melissa is fantastic and her fades are on point! I decided to try this place after reading reviews. I asked for a classic medium, using a half guard taper. A gentleman's cut. I walked out of there with an undercut (you know the one, where the hair is cut ALL the way up, on the curve of the head) it was ugly. Unfortunately even the undercut was patchy. Not what I wanted. I'm 45 years old, now I've got some darn teenager haircut. I also got a beard trim, which actually turned out really well. The thing is; her trimmers were not zero gapped right and absolutely tore up my neck. So there I was, a crappy haircut, a good looking beard and a scratched, red neck. I ended up going to my usual shop after and had my hair fixed. All in all, it was about $60 bucks I spent on my hair that day. Oh well. read more

If you're looking for a reliable barbershop to go to, this is your place! This is a family owned barbershop tucked away in a plaza around the corner from a Sprouts and PetSmart. I've been coming to this barbershop for over a year. My go-to barber is Lupe, but Melissa is great too! Lupe is AMAZING. She is especially incredible at fades. I make an effort to visit her on a weekly basis! Tell her exactly what you want and she will deliver. If she believes that a different cut or style might suit you better, she always confers with her client. As much as she wants to give me a hard-part, I always decline but she is very nice about it. I always look great coming off her chair. In addition to a great haircut, she is a great conversationalist and listener, it makes the haircut more enjoyable. I cannot say enough about Lupe! I will make a 45 minute drive every week just to get a haircut from her. In times where I am out of town and desperate for a haircut, I feel guilty for cheating on my barber, especially when the out-of-town haircut does not turn out well. Each time I get a bad haircut from someone else, I always come running back to Lupe! She's that good! She and Melissa are versatile. As a military member and needing to get a haircut every week, it is important to find a shop that can be trusted. I used to go to another barber many, many years ago but when the ONLY barber that I would let cut my hair left I was stuck and needed to find someplace new. Now, instead of driving 8 miles to get a haircut I drive less than one mile and get a better haircut. One of the best parts is that I do not have to worry about the only barber that cuts hair well leaving. They all do a fine job. As a matter of fact, the one barber that I always used did move and I just moved one chair over. If she is not there one week, I can move another chair in one direction or three chairs in the other direction. The price is not bad and I actually save by living closer and not driving as far. There are lines on the weekends since that seems to be the day Marines get their hair cut. It is not downtown Oceanside where the lines are longer though. There is an ATM inside for a fee so if you do not want to pay the ATM fees (shop does not charge the fee) bring cash. read more

A few months ago I would have given this shop a 5, but today it is a 1 because the owner is a liar. Jesus Diaz cut my hair at this shop for years. I was on leave and missed his departure from the shop. When I returned, and inquired about him, I was told he is no longer in the business. This is where the lies begin.
