There was apparently a family emergency and the barber did not come to work that day. I would ask: if there is an issue and the shop cannot open, please just say you are closed, so that the customer can get a haircut elsewhere. Asking a customer to come back, after which the shop is still closed and not answering its phone, is really not right.

Before I lived in Westchester County, I used to go to Astor Place Barbershop in Manhattan which wasn't horrible but nothing comes close to Jacks. My first 10 years I had Jack and the past 9 I've had Eli, his brother. Couldn't be happier and truly don't know what I'd do for a professional, clean, customized, affordable cut in a friendly setting if this place didn't exist.

Since this is a salon with old school character, everyone pretty much knows each other or they're familiar with other patrons, so you're going to hear jokes, debates and music. If you come here multiple times then it's pretty much guaranteed that whoever is doing your hair will also become your confidante as well. This place is full of conversation, so maybe it's hard for people to stay without saying a word. So they do women's and men's hair (curly or straight), my brother is also a masseuse, and he's one of the few people I've ever seen use a straight razor on people--truly old school. There's also plenty of food options around if you have to wait since New Roc City is right around the corner. On a Saturday afternoon you'll always see people making big food orders for delivery, so you can wait while eating, watching tv, or joining in some group conversation that's going on.
