He begins cutting, and after a while, says "I'm going to make a little bit of change for aesthetic, reasons." Uh oh. So he gives me this very competent, mild-mannered, bland-as-heck dad cut, that has nothing to do with undercut OR fade. Lost my trust. I had someone else fix it elsewhere. Bleh. 2 stars for decent skills in a cut that he decided I should have, instead of the one I wanted.

Supercuts quality at twice the price…read more This was my first trip to the Man Cave. I made an appointment and was sat down immediately when I arrived. The decor was nice and it has a great vibe. Unfortunately, that is where the good ended for me. I could tell immediately that this was not going to be a great cut. The barber seemed like she was racing to finish from the first second she touched my hair. Sure enough, it was less than 15 minutes from getting out of my car to getting back behind the wheel, and it shows in the cut. Uneven, with entire locks that were just missed. Plus when you pay a premium price you want to feel you have received premium service. This experience was just one time with one barber so it may be different for others. I probably should have requested the owner as my barber since they tend to be a little more invested in providing a quality experience.

Shave and a Haircut, Two Bits…read more... Actually, it was $15 for a good short haircut, a nice shave around the neck, and evened out sideburns. Last Friday, I came into Durango after being out in the San Juan Rift for over a week. My hair is thin on top and can get wild and woolly on the sides. It was time to get this mess under control and without any Donald Trump-like fly over. My main motivation however was that I was meeting Gayle in Portland the next day and wanted to look my best. I had the St Vincent Millay (their version of a between the sheets) and it was made to classic perfection! They also have an extensive spirits menu; I always like to try local so I had a shot of 1874 San Luis Valley American Whiskey (a 3-Grain Whiskey using local rye, barley, and wheat, highlighting regional sourcing). Price-point is in line w/current mixologist cocktail costs. Definitely worth checking out!
