I was sat in the back room cuz the front bar was full. It was nice and quiet & there was an additional bar in the back. Great curated "author & bibliophile" themed libation menu. I had the St Vincent Millay (their version of a between the sheets) and it was made to classic perfection! They also have an extensive spirits menu; I always like to try local so I had a shot of 1874 San Luis Valley American Whiskey (a 3-Grain Whiskey using local rye, barley, and wheat, highlighting regional sourcing). I have been driving to Durango to get a proper cut. I'm originally from Atlanta and am used to old classic barber shops who aren't afraid to use a straight razor and know how to do a proper fade and can properly take care of a beard and it's been hard to find that in Cortez. Steven knocks it out of the park though. To be honest, his prices are too cheap for the work that he does. Recently he told me he was thinking about bringing some changes to the shop, upgrading his services, sprucing up the place, etc. Well I got a taste of some of those possible changes today. I got a special beard treatment that was incredibly relaxing and good quality overall. Hot towel, straight razor, vibrating face massage, and a full shampoo wash. I'm telling you, it was the real deal. An easy 50-60 dollar service if that's what he wanted to charge. Obviously the works isn't for everyone but I'm just saying, if you are a fan of kicking back at a barbershop, relaxing and getting a nice treatment then go see what Steven can do for you. The only thing missing is a cold beer and a cigar at the end. I hope the community comes together and can make it where the services become a regular option and in doing so I would expect and hope the shop starts charging what they deserve. The minute anyone starts trimming a beard I can't help but think the services are much more then a normal 15-20 dollar haircut. They do mainly do appointments but take walk ins at certain times. Definitely call the shop or check their social media page for more info on that. I'm personally a fan of the appointments because I'm not looking to wait for my haircut or feel rushed while people wait. Don't forget, give credit when credit is due and don't forget to tip your barber!!

He begins cutting, and after a while, says "I'm going to make a little bit of change for aesthetic, reasons." Uh oh. So he gives me this very competent, mild-mannered, bland-as-heck dad cut, that has nothing to do with undercut OR fade. Lost my trust. I had someone else fix it elsewhere. Bleh. 2 stars for decent skills in a cut that he decided I should have, instead of the one I wanted.

I checked into two particular services that they offered and was hooked. I call and booked the two services that I was interested in and received awesome service. I would recommend Cameron for any services she can perform. While I was there we even discussed doing a perm that I normally have had done at another Salon. I moved from Arizona where I left a Hair Stylist that I had for 40+ years. I was hard to leave Arizona, but I knew I could find another Salon. Supercuts quality at twice the price…read more This was my first trip to the Man Cave. I made an appointment and was sat down immediately when I arrived. The decor was nice and it has a great vibe. Unfortunately, that is where the good ended for me. I could tell immediately that this was not going to be a great cut. The barber seemed like she was racing to finish from the first second she touched my hair. Sure enough, it was less than 15 minutes from getting out of my car to getting back behind the wheel, and it shows in the cut. Uneven, with entire locks that were just missed. Plus when you pay a premium price you want to feel you have received premium service. This experience was just one time with one barber so it may be different for others. I probably should have requested the owner as my barber since they tend to be a little more invested in providing a quality experience.

Everyone seems down to earth and very small town-ish. So, start up a conversation and enjoy your sitting, because it may take a while if you're with a perfectionist and they are great at what they do. Also, if you need a straight razor beard cut, some have the talent to do so. This is my destination for all hairs trimmed and cut.
