I can't remember where I saw someone suggest this store, it was probably a niche sewing group on…read morefacebook though. There was a comment about silk for dirt cheap. They were right. I hopped on their site, because I wasn't really looking for a road trip, and saw some pretty great deals. I am queen of "I don't really need that but..." because I frequently sew and make things for other people. I also have a habit of stocking up in larger yardages because most of my default projects are 3+ yards (infinite dresses, mermaid skirts, super full circle skirts, fluffy pantaloons...). I also try to coordinate with crap I already have because it's easier to build a costume later without hoping something matches. So, what did I buy, you ask? For a total of about $100 after shipping... I picked two different silk chiffons with metallic stripes/grids. I thought one would match a velvet and vintage coin project I've had on my mind for the last 6 years (it doesn't, but I might force it), and the other was just a fun color. Both of them were $7/yard. I got 5 of each, because clearly I needed it. In terms of quality and all that - great for the price. Nice drape, doesn't feel cheap, and miles ahead of synthetic chiffon. The other impulse buy was 6 yards of a print poly/spandex ITY that became an infinite dress, two cropped tops, and a miniskirt. At $3.60/yard, it really couldn't be beat. The material has worn and washed really well so far. I'll probably be back on their site when I need more of it in other prints. Shipping turnaround was a day, and it got to me relatively quickly. I didn't have any issues so I can't vouch for how customer service is, nor can I comment on their brick and mortar. But for a smaller company they were great.

I heard about this place from a friend who lives 2 states away... And I live in PA!…read more They have the largest indie pattern section that I have seen in PA. Their stock is constantly changing, but always have knits, wovens, and other deadstock apparel fabric. The fabric can be bolts that have imperfections - so look closely! I have seen woven bolts that have a single line off (in a solid black fabric there was one line of undyed threads) in repeating patterns, digital prints that are missing color in various spots and slubs that have loose threads sticking out. They do have great sales, so sign up for their newsletter and watch the savings roll in! They have a great website that updates on the spot. They have shipping options, but I always pick up my order and look to see what else they have that hasn't made it to the website yet!

Jo-Ann Fabrics is one of the first places someone should go if they have any crafting needs…read more The store is much more than fabric supplies. Almost any craft that you could want to work with they'll have something for you. Sections include picture framing, yarn, glasswares, paints and other mediums of that sort. The store has a couple handicap parking spots. Doors are automated for easy entry of wheelchair. All of the staff has always been friendly, in my experience. It's quite refreshing and I enjoy all of the interactions I've ever had with their employees. One of the best things about Jo-Ann Fabrics is their app. You can shop online, order online, pay online, and do in store pickup. They can also ship to you. They have regular sales so that you can save even more money from their regular pricing.

Not sure that I like the service at this store. A few of the employees are very nice and helpful,…read morebut more of them seem dismissive or aloof. I'm thankful to encounter employees who can help with products and promotions because they go out of their way to provide great service. Too often, however, someone will tell me they don't know or just say it's not available. Yesterday I wanted to purchased a storage cart that cost over $100. I had a 20% off coupon with pickup at store. When I attempted to make the purchase online to pickup at the store, the coupon didn't work even though it was for regular and sale price products. The product didn't fit any of the exclusions in the fine print. So I called the store. I was told that the brand wasn't eligible for further discounts since it was already on sale or maybe it was a high price item. Either way, that wasn't stated on the sales ad or the fine print. Joann accepts coupons from competitors but not some of its own coupons? I bought the identical item from Michaels online that night with a 40% off coupon. Yay! It looks great in my craft room. Another example, of Joann's need for better training happened to me a few weeks ago. I got a craft tool from Amazon and brought it to the store to choose my textiles. I forgot to take it out of the basket when I checked out. When I got in my car, I saw the packaging for the craft tool so I took it into the store, explained my mistake to the clerk and asked her to refund the accidental sale. To make a long story short, she did the refund but then tried to take my tool. She said that if I brought it with me it wouldn't have scanned. OMG! UPC codes are universal by definition. I can scan that with my iPhone. I told her that she can check store surveillance. Besides it's package of 2, each with a different UPC code and she had only scanned the one item. That should be proof enough but she could scan the outer package and see what happens. With that, she finally gave up and let go of my stuff. I was pretty mad, but I remembered my dad's wisdom... be patient because if she can't figure it out that young lady may be at her peak performance.
