Hip coffee shop that makes incredible coffee and amazing pastries but also has the friendliest and most knowledgeable baristas. The background music is good too. I love this location because sometimes I am on the run and I just need to grab and go and having a drive thru is really convenient. The other location on Louetta Road is wonderful as well with more of an intimate vibe that is perfect working on your laptop or just chilling. Came to Barbarossa trying to buy a cup of coffee & end up I purchased a bag of Ethiopia Yirgacheffe coffee bean, because the owner & their staff were so friendly & willing to air pressed & made me a small cup of Ethiopia for me to taste & to see wether I like it or not, I was so amazed how that full note of its flavor (Floral, sweet, Meyer lemon) it tasted really what it described & it's really really good, don't miss it if you visit Barbarossa. BTY, after finished the coffee, you must smell the remaining flavor within that empty cup of the coffee , it's a plus. Updating my review because Yelp doesn't make it possible to reply to the sassy response I got from the owner here. Let me address a few things: 1- he said that I dislike their small business. I actually loved this business and spent quite a bit of money there over the past several years. Maybe that's what makes my recent experiences so disappointing. 2- he said I have continuously left 1-star reviews for their business. This is not true. I have left ONE other review (2-star) for a DIFFERENT location (which is now closed) with very similar complaints. 3- my favorite thing to order at Barbarossa has always been the blueberry muffins. They have always been very moist and delicious. When I tell you the one I got on Friday was dry, it's not because I "dislike the business," it's because it was DRY. I waited over 15 minutes to receive a muffin that was served cold and was indeed dry, making it all around disappointing. 4- I have no doubt that the parfaits are made fresh daily, my complaint is that, again, I waited FIFTEEN MINUTES, watched them take the yogurt out of the display case, put it on the counter, and call my name. 5- he said that I should save my time and take my business elsewhere, and as I mentioned at the end of my original review, I certainly will. read more

For one, my $10 breakfast burrito was the size of a small taco, I even verified to make sure it was a burrito when I picked it up as I was a little thrown off. The scones were big and pretty, but a few bites in I noticed a weird taste and sure enough the inside was molded, I was so sad I had let my toddler eat a few bites before me and wish I would have checked it first. They have your regular coffee staples as well as some Turkish options. I got the honey and hazelnut iced latte and it was incredibly smooth and delicious. I finally got around to trying this independent coffee shop (ok small chain--2 locations) in our area. I ordered a Croque Madame, a bread pudding, and for the coffee I had a syphon-brewed Burundi. I have never seen so many options between beans and preparation. Six preparations, and about eight beans on the day I came in. It would be worth coming back just to watch them go through the different preparation methods. Working there would have quite the learning curve. The Croque Madame is an excellent choice for brunch or lunch. Shredded beef, tomatoes, spinach, pepper and onion on a toasted thin bun--tasted a bit like an English muffin--topped with a fried egg. The bun was nice and crisp on the top and bottom, and held up to the moisture of the sandwich. It's a knife and fork item, though--the fried egg runs down to provide a sauce. The beef was tender, and the savory flavor was very satisfying. Slight oversight--I did not get the promised side salad, though I do not think I missed it. The bread pudding reminded me of a Danish in appearance. It has shiny Turbinado (I think) sugar on top, along with chocolate chips. I ate it that way, and it tasted great. They have a wide variety of pastries to go with your coffee or meal. The coffee itself was fun--syphon brewing is quite complex, I had not heard of it before. I usually put cream and sugar in my coffee, but I drank this black to make sure I got the flavor. I am not really a coffee connoisseur, but the Burundi was nice and strong with a very smooth finish. Some things that are not exactly downsides but should be kept in mind. 1) The shop was pretty busy on a Saturday morning. I waited over 20 minutes for my order. It is perfectly OK to linger there, but maybe don't come starving. 2) If you do linger, bring a battery for your device. The interior was nicely appointed but no outlets in sight. Also not many masks, since people were eating. No outdoor seating at this location. 3) It is a step up in price--my meal set me back over $30. If you are ready to level up from Starbucks I would say this is a great place to go. read more

Great place to study or work if you're in the area. I usually go to the Spring location on Louetta, which is much smaller, but very very cozy. I got an iced chai tea latte with a shot of espresso and it came out to be over $6 for a small. Pretty pricey so it's my only downside. Other than that, plenty of seating, outlets, great lighting, brand new patio seating and even a drive through. Next time, I'll see if they have the honey milk latte I get at Louetta. read more

At the risk of sounding like a Karen, spend your money elsewhere. I've been a fan of Barbarossa since they open back in 2017- they were fresh, had great service and drinks. However, the last several times I've been the quality of product and service had decreased significantly. My usual order is an iced matcha latte, extra matcha. Our normal location is 2920. The workers are very nonchalant and seemingly always irritated, and each time the matcha tastes more like milk than matcha. They recently opened a location on Gosling, I visited a few days ago and finally had my order made appropriately (went inside & owners were there). Pleased from the other day, sister and I went again this morning ordering 3 matcha lattes, 2 of which were extra matcha. Unfortunately, both extra matchas were not extra. I went back to ask for the drink to be remade and sat at the speaker for a few moments. As we were waiting one of the employees pointed at our car and shook their head what looked to be in disapproval/annoyance (just weird, why would you point at someone's car? I can see you). We sat for a few more minutes and waited for someone. An employee came over the speaker and I explained the situation and asked for the matcha to be remade. To be fair, I don't think they well, so when finished ordering they gave a total and I had to tell them again I just said been by. Anyway, at the window they take my drink, and come back a few mins later and it's literally the exact same. The same color, taste, they gave it back to me with the same straw even (unhygienic). I don't feel like they added anything, definitely didn't remake it as requested. For anyone who loves matcha, that shit is green and tastes like earth. Just super disappointed in my last few experiences, I really loved coming here and hope they can make a comeback! read more

This neighborhood gem opened up its 2nd location right by me in summer of 2020 & I've been back at least once a week (as well as visited its 1st location) ever since due to its amazing vibe, eats, drinks, & staff! Everything I write here applies to both locations. This is the independent coffee shop I've been looking for since my college days - a place where you can chill, hang, work, & study. The shop also collaborates with the community to host events, which many have enjoyed. The staff is warm & gets to know you, especially if you're a regular. All their food & drinks are made & brewed with love, & at the point of writing this I've officially tried everything on their food menu & am making my way through their drinks. I've steered people here who are Starbucks addicts & after their first trip, they're now passing up several Starbucks to drive out of their way to get Barbarossa's stuff! See for yourself what quality tastes like! For the most bang for your buck when it comes to the food, I highly recommend the Breakfast Bowl & Croque Madame. Both are filling & nourishing, & my picky eater teen actually enjoyed the simple side salad that came with the latter. For desserts, I recommend whatever is in the tall fridge on the counter (those are made in-house), ESPECIALLY the bread pudding. definitely a life changer to everyone I've recommended it to.
