I saw Dr Zipkin twice a year ago and she was friendly, pleasant with direct bedside manner, but unfortunately I have to give her 2 stars because she misdiagnosed me which delayed me getting proper treatment. I went to see her with premature perimenopause symptoms. I showed her hormonal labs that were recently done by primary dr that showed low hormones. She ordered repeat labs which made sense and is the standard of practice but when the levels came back they were barely within range but according to my age they are low. She told me I wasn't anywhere near menopause despite very irregular periods, dryness, memory lapses, insomnia, low libido, hair thinning, fatigue and the list goes on. Their clinic continued to offer me bladder stimulation training to help with the mild urinary leakage I had with I didn't improve much with. She told me there was nothing she could do for my symptoms since my labs were "within range" and that replacing suboptimal female hormones when levels are suboptimal does not help libido. My symptoms persisted so 3 mos later I saw another ob/gyn in the same practice for a 2nd opinion and she acknowledged that the levels were too low for my age and that the main issue was that I was having symptoms. This other Dr gave the ok for me to try the bioidentical estrogen and progesterone to see if it would help, which it did! But at that point 4 drs had missed it at that practice and we moved so I got a new OB dr about 11 mos later who stated that I had been in perimenopause back then too because perimenopause can last even years prior to stopping and 11 mos after seeing Dr Zipkin my hormone levels were now post menopausal range in my mid 30s.. I was eventually referred to a specialist for chronic fatigue & determined that I had a an autoimmune problem that unfortunately it took a long time for a dr to finally find out and make sense of it all for me. She is probably very good at cases that are "typical" but I think patients that have unusual, hormonal situations need a dr that thinks more "outside the box". I'm not upset because I know she meant well and she seems to certainly have some very happy OB patients that have enjoyed her as their Dr. Best wishes on finding your optimal OB/Gyn! read more
