There is definitely some confusion because they have two sites at the same location. The ground floor site is for facials and non-medical services. Dr. Barba was very thorough in the appointment and answered all of my questions. I appreciate her taking the time to be very detailed. She's very nice. The clinic itself is also beautiful. What was off putting for me was that I felt like I was bombarded with my skincare routine plan with products. Immediately following my exam with the derm, two ladies came in with a tray of 7 products and began to explain that this would be my new routine and how I would use them. They just assumed that I would be purchasing the $400 worth of products they presented and not once did they say "this is the recommended plan, here are the prices, etc". I had the front desk scan the prices. I felt very pressured and would have liked the opportunity to explain what I was currently using so I could possibly mix my current stuff with the new ones. I also felt like many of the items were highly marked up, and I know I can buy them on my own directly from the retailer online. I wish she would have at least given me my retinol prescription instead of buying it from the pharmacy there, because at least then I know my insurance covers it at a cvs. read more

Dr. Rivas is the very BEST!! I have developed rosacea late in life and had been to THREE dermatologist who basically all gave me the exact same medication with absolutely no results. Dr. Rivas provided me with her own compound medication and the results were almost IMMEDIATE!!! Never have had an issue again. The staff is very nice. I have been coming to Barba Dermatology Clinic for over 4 years and seeing Dr. Rivas for that time. The service is excellent and it's the best treatment solution I have received for skin issues I've had since childhood, in fact, the treatment I received here is the only one in my life that has resolved that issue and for that I'm very grateful. They also provide complete skin care advice and products at reasonable processes that are targeted to people with overly-sensitive skin. When I come here I'm only charged my insurance co-payment which in my case is $50. Once I had a special treatment to remove smalls moles on my face and they charged that separately because the insurance considered it a cosmetic procedure and did not covered it but that was ok, the price for the special procedure was reasonable. I came here because I had a rash on my skin. One of the doctors prescribed a cream to use on it. I put the cream on my rash everyday and nothing was happening. I googled the cream and it was literally a cream that cures some bizarre disease, something I clearly didn't have nor had the symptoms for it. So I went back again this time to see another doctor (the actual dr. Barba) who said the cream I was prescribed was not going to cure what I had. That I simply had eczema, so she prescribed me another cream which gave me immediate results. Like practically next day results! Glad that I was able to cure the red patch on my leg however, it took me an extra doctor visit and extra money out of my pocket for medicine that I didn't even need to actually get the cream I needed. I would go back to only see Dr. Barba, but I'm open to exploring my options until I find a dermatologist that may be a better match. read more

Going to the dermatologist isn't generally my idea of a fun day (those of you who have experienced the dreaded "freeze gun" might concur) but in South Florida it's a necessity. I am so happy to have found the Barba Dermatology group and Dr Rivas in particular. My previous experience with another dermatologist was a nightmare, not from a medical perspective but some shenanigans around over billing me. Dealing with the staff at Barba has been a delight. First of all, their office boasts the most comfortable waiting room anywhere with a spectacular view of Biscayne Bay, Downtown Miami skyline, the Cruise Port etc. it's so relaxing I almost wish they didn't always take me on time! I said "almost." Only negative about their location is a very small and crowded parking lot which pretty much dictated you use valet parking, but that's a small price to pay and I've recently switched to Lyft or Public Transit. The staff is ultra friendly and professional. And Dr Rivas is really knowledgeable, friendly and always patient with all my questions. Added bonus, when I mentioned to her that the prescription she prescribed was really expensive at my local CVS, she offered to try a specialty pharmacy for me and saved me $80 on just one tube of cream! As far as a Covid precautions are concerned, you'll feel very comfortable. They are limiting number of patients at a time, there is ample space to social distance in their waiting room, and the staff in the treatment rooms are fully outfitted. It may be one of the safest places I have gone indoors in recent months. I highly recommend their practice. They don't try to sell you on skin care or other cosmetic treatments, this is a professional medical office (I think they do have a sister skin care company elsewhere in the building but that is separate from this medical practice. ) If you do try them, ask for Dr Rivas. read more

Eight years later and still a fan of Irene Cuesta and Barba Dermatology! I've been twice in the last six months and felt compelled to write an update to share my more recent experiences that have made coming here an even more pleasant experience. For starters, I now park in the nearby Publix lot and walk over to the building. This is SO much more convenient than going through the crazy parking garage under the building and having to deal with valet. I've never had an issue with my car being towed or ticketed at Publix (Publix... where parking is a pleasure... should be their new slogan) and getting in/out is so easy. My most recent visit was when the office reopened after quarantine. They've made several modifications to the space that allow for social distancing guidelines. The seating in the expanded waiting room is covered in plastic which I assume is discarded and replaced regularly (although not the best for the environment, I appreciate the effort at cleanliness). They are updating their records system and use iPads now, and the person at the front desk assured me that it was disinfected before she handed it to me to update my info. Although I did wait quite a bit this last time, as I was the last appointment of the day, I was once again pleased with the amount of time that Irene spent with me, listening to concerns and talking through options. She also gave me a bunch of samples to use while prescriptions are being filled. They are now offering Telemedicine visits, which is kind of weird in a dermatological setting where they kind of need to look at and touch things in person... but since Irene saw me in person this time, she said she would be okay with offering the video option in five weeks as a follow up appointment, if it was inconvenient for me to come in person or if my health status changed or I was weary about going out again. I highly recommend this practice! read more

Stay away!!! You will find better ! They are more interested by your money than concerned by your health.. Whenever you go into their practice, you have to fill 5 pages of personal informations including your SS number, credit card number... They take a copy of your insurance card and ID but require you to sign all the 5 document pages. They oblige you to provide a credit card number even if you have an insurance. It is more a business than a real doctor's practice. The person at the reception was not friendly at all and they cancelled my appointment because i did not want to put my credit card in their file. Even though my insurance was completly covering the doctor's fees. read more

Love this dermatology office! My doctor created an excellent regimen for my face that has dramatically improved my complexion. During my last appointment, I was treated for some sunspots with the IPL laser. The billing department for this dermatology office is horrific. I was reviewing my credit card transactions and there was charge from Barba Dermatology Clinic with a date of 1/23/2020. I thought, I haven't been to the clinic in sometime, what am I being charge for? this couldn't be right. After review of my records I had gone to the clinic in July 2019. I never received a bill and was NEVER notified that I had a unpaid balance. Barba Dermatology took it upon themselves to charge my credit card six months after services had been rendered. I found this type of predatory behavior abusive and downright Wrong for not making any attempt to contact me. It's frustrating and unacceptable. I will never use their service again. I understand the policy and it's up to you not the medical insurance to send me a bill of services. Yes, I was Surprise that it took Barba Clinic 6 months. My medical insurance job is to send me a statement as to what is covered. The clinic responsibility is to send me a bill of services performed and not covered by insurance. I signed a form for payment for the year of services not the following year. And by me signing a document Does Not give the clinic the right to take payment from my credit card. I did not agree to unlimited authority. My personal information is just that personal and should not be use to meet billing satisfaction without notifying the patent. Beautiful office with a highly skilled and courteous staff. The dermatologists here are top notch and so is their office staff and nurse practitioners. This is the best place to go for your skin in miami and everyone knows it! Their online system is efficient and the place is well run overall. Theres also a medi-spa on the first floor that has all the treatments you could dream of, focused on accentuating and nourishing your natural beauty (they have fillers and stuff too). When I first started seeing Anita Barba about a year ago I swore by Estée Lauder everything, even though my face looked horrible. I came to realize I was only hiding the imperfections, but like everyone else, I thought if it was more expensive and from a counter it must be the best...WRONG!!!Anita put me on a strict regimen of clean simple products that I had never heard of before and educated me on what exactly was in my famed Estée Lauder line (even my neutrogena face wash had harsh chemicals). Classic bait and switch. I made an appointment with Dr Alicia Barba's, since her name is on the directory for my policy. I called and made the appointment two weeks ago and gave them my insurance information. I showed up today and the front desk person told me I wasn't going to be seeing Dr Barba and that I would be seeing her associate instead. When I asked why, she said "Dr. Barba does not see insured patients, she only sees self-paying patients". This alone made me regret coming to them. The look of disdain on the front desk person astonished me, I felt like I might as well have told them I'm poor and on food stamps. However, I still went ahead to fill out the new patient forms. In the middle of answering questions on the most poorly written form in the history of patient forms, another office person appeared and asked my name. She then proceeded to tell me how my insurance is "weird" and they might not even be in network, thus they might hit my out of network benefit. I told her the reason I even made an appointment with them was because they were in my insurance provider's directory. she then proceeded to tell me that I may have to pay the full consultation fee because I have not met my deductible. By this point I was already upset, I asked them why didn't they call me ahead of time to tell me all of this instead of making me come all the way to downtown Miami and waste my time. I left the office and told them to be more straightforward with other people next time. I called my insurance company after the fact. they confirmed Dr Barbra is in fact contracted with my policy, therefore I would not have had to pay anything except the copay. doesn't matter because I'm not going back there. An incompetent front desk and office staff only spells trouble. read more

More than an hour after my appointment was scheduled (and I arrived 30 min early), I was still waiting to see the doctor. The staff, who kept telling me they were just prepping the room, never offered an apology. As they continued to call patients in before me (rooms prepped?), the woman at the front just said "they must have made a mistake; they were supposed to call you." But still no apology. I been looking for a dermatologist for a very long time. When I turned 29 my skin face decided that since I had not hit a nasty pimple puberty stage it was gonna start at that age! So here I was 29, two kids and my face just decides to break out with horrible acne! I went from dermatologist to dermatologist and no one really ever asked me the right questions, they just saw me and said ok buy muy products. That's it! So I went home with products worth almost $200-$300 and nothing ever worked. Went and bought proactive and it's not for my skin either, cause that didn't work. So, I kept looking and found Dr. Rivas, and she sat there with me and asked me a bunch of questions and trying to understand where this came from... oh did I mention I also developed psoriasis at 30 (my skin hates me right now) after a surgery I had. So, she sent me off with two of her products for my acne, blood work (which no dermatologist has ever requested of me) and antibiotics for acne as well as a face medication for the morning. It's been a few days and I actually see a difference with my new routine! For my psoriasis, I might need something else but I am actually excited to see her and tell her cause I know she will work to see if we can fix it! read more

I just read some of the previous reviews... I am really puzzled with most of the negative ones, I am not sure this belongs to the office I know... I am a very old client of this office for both dermatology and cosmetic. Going through each one of the aspect that makes this office my preferred and only place I would go for anything related to my skin care: 1) The reception staff is super nice, they all know my name, always with a smile, positive attitude, all looking the par, they always call the day previous to appointment to confirm. At times I have had schedules issues, and they have tried to accommodate to the best of their possibilities. They are all very professional, and aware of my time needs. 2) I have never had an issue with billings, sometimes I had questions and brought it up to the their attention and they address my questions and concern right there at the moment. 3) As far as Doctor Alicia Barba, she is always very objective, and accurate on her diagnosis and recommended treatment, as well as different options, she is always very informative and open to answer any questions. I have always followed her suggestions and from simple issue from dry skin to bacterial and fungus infections, as well as sun stains, ingrown hair and pimples, she has always come with solutions that have worked in miracle time. 4) When it comes to cosmetology, Stella is my person to go to. She is caring, dedicated, interested and really wants to make the best out of your skin, from dry ice, to micro-dermabration to laser hair removal [this is intimate, but I am so happy I will share it, I have the best skin and hairless butt cheeks, thanks to her... I can compare =) ]. I also did all my back hair removal with laser and I had a fur back there, it was not nice. She has master the exact amount of intensity in the laser that would get the results at the least amount of pain, and that treatment is painful, yet I went through it and I the happiest person after it. 5) Convenience!!!! You can buy almost all products needed for the skin care right there and at competitive prices, also some prescription items are also offered there. 6) Looking good is feeling good for me, and I provide a lot of importance to my image, not only for business purposes but in general. Wellbeing and success are an overall matter to me, from my spirit, to my looks to my fitness to my skin, and I blindly trust this office and the staff for it. I was received by a smiling receptionist that made me feel at ease right away. After filling out the necessary insurance paperwork I was soon show inside.
