This has got to be one of my most favorite places to go out ever! And I don't mean just at night,…read moreone of my favorite things in Summer is going in, having a great Mojito and watching the world go (well traffic go up and down the hill) through the open doors. It's not the most glamorous of places, it could do with a bit of re-decorating but they do make some of THE nicest cocktails I have ever tasted. I adore the Mojito, whilst my man loves their El Diablo, I have tried many others Singapore Sling, Mai Tai - all delicious! BUT and it is a big BUT the place has a bit of a nasty reputation once you get past 10 - 11pm when a more 'rowdy' crowd come in. We tend to leave then but the times we've stayed we've never experienced any trouble at all, it may be because we are stocky Northeners and with our now weakened accents or because we keep our selves to our selves but we have NEVER had any trouble. BUT we have heard things - even off the bar men - so be warned. I love it on a summer's evening have a few Mojitos with friends then home for a BBQ - what more could you ask for? Oh, it even has some great Latin music on selected nights, but again, caters for a different crowd later on by playing quite hard core Hip Hop (the main reason we don't usually stay) But it can play some great old school and they take requests - Bobby Brown goes down a treat!

Well I went to this bar called Whisperz just before Christmas. It's relatively local to me and am…read morealways eager to discover new places in surrounding areas. I feel like this area will be gentrified soon enough due to the new luxury apartments and a possible Supermarket which will probably open up nearby. The fact that Whisperz has a few local restaurants neighbouring it is nice, but I had popped in one evening on a Friday as I heard some music from within. It's not a wide bar but it is long and can hold a number of people. I think it's best for these type of nights out as it's good to stand, chat and drink here actually (which is what we did). We had a few cocktails seeing as we were in a mixed group and they had some deals on to save on the pennies which is good as Christmas was coming up. I'm not the biggest pop fan, but everyone was really into the music and you kind of got into it all as the night went on. The booze helped, but I suppose that's what bars like this are for. It was so good we ended up staying till near closing. From what I understand the site Whisperz (which I'm not sure what was behind that name) is changing it to something more specific (Bar Kitsch) as the owners loved the fun vibe of certain cheesy themed nights, so the music will be anything from 70's and 80's to the present. I'm totally down with that! I love that there will be an eclectic range of music throughout the years, even if there is a bit of cheesy retro songs. You never know I might even be tempted for a bit of karaoke if they play the Baywatch theme tune, haha. I welcome a fun new bar to the local area which is renowned for being quite sleepy, as it will improve the sense of the nightlife. Would be nice to have offering something different. Crouch End nearby already has some good little pubs and a few upmarket restaurants, so I love that finally there's a proper evening bar to let your hair down locally without having to venture far out of this area of North London and all with a late license! All good by me, especially if they keep the happy hour that everyone seemed to be taking advantage of previously. I look forward to the relaunch (apparantly it might be in March '16) and dancing to some funky tunes.

Apparently the owners want it to feel like someone's living room and it definitely has a relaxed and locals-come-here vibe, although our seating area was in what was once a VIctorian police cell, which was probably less cosy back in the day. The interesting concept here is to serve small bites of food tailored to each house cocktail which a beautifully presented and explained, as are the cocktails themselves. We sampled almost all of the house cocktail menu and generally everyone was very impressed. I think several people really liked the park bench, with its strong apple flavour, although I personally found it a bit one-note. In fact, I wouldn't say any of the cocktails here got it quite right for my palate, some of the balancing of flavours didn't quite work for me and none of them particularly blew me away. They were pretty good, but there weren't any I found incredibly delicious and "incredibly delicious" is really what I am looking for in a cocktail. I had the Get Me a Bourbon, I'm Hungry and Lost in Alaska. The first was a short drink which wasn't massively memorable, contra my favourite ever bourbon cocktail, the fantastic bourborini once on the specials at Pitt Cue Co. Lost in Alaska I thought was nice although others said they thought it tasted medicinal! Service was great - helpful, patient and attentive. It's expensive, especially now I live in Manchester and can get better cocktails at the Fitzgerald for £4 less, but I would still recommend Knowhere Special, especially if you're nearby having dinner. They have such an inventive and passionate approach, it's very impressive already and I'm sure will just get better with time.

The interior is small, cramped, and homely like walking into a hippie's apartment. Our table was in its own private alcove with a low vaulted ceiling. We had one server who was outstanding - knowledgeable, excited, and outgoing. The house cocktail flavors were all over the place. Some were good and others were great. They are all super weird for sure, so you'll get a kick just reading off the descriptions. They are pricier, but not outrageous. Many also come with little snacks to pair with the cocktail. If you don't want something crazy, you can order regular cocktails as well. Neat experience and certainly recommended to try out for novelty's sake. One of the best experiences we had in London!

Apart from the Aspalls, but that tasted awful and couldn't manage much of the pint, so left it for another of our party to drink. I ordered what turned out to be the worst chicken wings I've ever had. Over-cooked and dry, with the hot sauce squirted randomly over the wings and plate. Presentation is not really a priority here at Big Red. My hubbys pulled pork burritos was not great. It had a good kick to it, but it also too much of this over-powering sweet sauce. Not sure what it was trying to hide, the sauce. Maybe that there wasn't much pork in it? The floor staff were just about interested. I had to ask to have the table wiped down before our food arrived, as it had a bits of the last diners food all over it. I'm not sure why I gave it four stars in my first review. Maybe because the food definitely better last time. I'm sure of it was. Oh well.
