This is how I ended up visiting "El Bar de Don Rodrigo". I have to mention that at first sight its small, dark, and busy. The earlier the better to get seated. Personally I like the bar areas because of the conversations I carry to know more about the country's business and politics. And met quite a few persons that not only happily discussed their political views but personal business views and opportunities in the country. Best to drink are the 'pisco sour' specially made by Mr. Santiago de Santiago. He can make pretty much any drink you order. Food is good and classic. I had the empanadas, best I've had in Chile so far. Music is varied but of surprisingly good taste. You get free peanuts at all areas. Their whole idea is to make you feel at home and enjoy their bar. Time flies when you are having fun and gladly I would return to this place anytime I am in Chile. I loved the creativity in the dishes, they were so unique and delicious. My favorite dishes were the leche de tigre veggies and the ceviche. Honestly we didn't make it out of the app section but we got to try a good amount. They have a HUGE wine selection, I ordered a flight and got to try 3 different kinds. Don't skip dessert it's so worth it! Cant wait to come back, I highly recommend.

Not only does this wine bar have the most extensive by-the-glass list I found anywhere in Santiago, they are also one of only two wine bars that keeps all of their wines in a temperature controlled area (very important--as most places don't have AC in Chile). All of the food I had was great--but my top favorites were the applewood smoked salmon, the loco plate, and the short ribs. I really enjoyed being able to try new wines from small, boutique producers in Chile (this is something you can only do in a few places in Santiago) and get recommendations from the really knowledgeable owner as well as the fact that they include a little tag on each glass so that you can keep track of what each wine in front of you is, if you do a flight of half glasses of wine like I did. The two best places for wines-by-the-glass and the best selection of wines from smaller producers are Bocanariz and Barrica94. No wine lover should leave Santiago without visiting both of these places.

It is a great place to go for a drink and dance after dinner in Bellavista. Very fun and easy going crowd with great music by both international and Chilean DJ's as well as live bands (a great escape from all the reggaeton which is so popular in chile). They have two dance floors and one is more tecno focused while the other is funk mixed with classic pop (depending on the night). I have always had a great time here and my friends and I have danced until the wee hours of the night. They also have great cocktails and happy hour - they even have servers up until around 12am where you will then have to fight your way to one of the bars. Tip: Bring your ID - I know that is a given, but I have gotten super lax about it and if you don't have one on you, the bouncers wont let you in. Also, if you come before 11pm you can get in free - otherwise you will have to pay. Keep an eye out on their Twitter or FB page as a lot of times you can get in free by adding yourself to the guest list.

From the way tables are arranged to how the menu is structures, sharing and communion are clearly the core concepts defining the spirit of this place. Regarding their food, I tend to agree with what others comment about this place. There is way too much focus on fried food-I would not consider their menu attractive for someone looking for healthy options around this trendy area of Santiago. I had the fish tacos and they were really really good. However, I do not hold the same opinion about the boletus croquetas. The croquetas were bland and lacked and boring (truly nothing exciting about them)... I would definitely recommend the tacos, but croquetas are a waste of money and time. Cocktails in general, and gin in particular, are supposed to be their distinctive feature with the rest of pubs/bars in the area. I was not impressed with the variety of Gin they hold. My personal impression is that they are not running any kind of risk when it comes to selecting some labels over others and that they are not open to consider some really good ones (for example: G-vine). Because it was hard for me see their expertise in a menu where Gin Mare is expected to shine, I decided to try some cocktails. I ordered a negroni and it was OK, nothing memorable about it. I also tried the Gin Yang, which I had to the send back because I prefered to avoid an instant visit to the doctor. The level of sweetness was simply overwhelming... In general this place is ok, but I would probably think twice before coming back. I really enjoyed the sharing-based value proposition but I do feel that they are not capable to meet the expectations proposed in their menu.
