We visited Barca for drinks and it was a solid place for them. While we were in the area, we stopped by here as another nearby bar was packed and couldn't find any seats. Therefore, Barca came to our rescue. Barca is a Spanish restaurant, so red wine is a must. And from what we discovered, Barca had the best prices for wine, compared to many bars we had visited. Glasses were about six bucks, US dollars, and the pours were fair. Yet, if wine isn't your thing, they do have a full bar. Many people were dining in, and what came out of the kitchen looked yummy! Great place for a girls night out. Plentiful beer, wine and sangria at a decent price. They have a great outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice, which is was for the day we came here. The sangria was really good, full of fresh oranges and apples. The paella was beautifully done, we got it with chicken, chorizo, mussels and prawns. The seafood was beautifully done while the chicken was a bit dry. I also really enjoyed the chorizo. I went to Barca with my family for our final night in Amsterdam, and we had a lovely time. The food was exceptional, but I will say I was bummed they were out of a few of the dishes I really wanted to try! The restaurant is in a fun little area with lots of activity going on outside. I really felt part of a community even though I was so far from home! Our server, Jacobine, was very nice and did a great job taking care of us. Food was underwhelming. Small Plates needed seasoning and the paella left us with feelings of regret. So mushy and dense it was disappointing especially for almost 40 euros for that plate. we knew ahead that Europeans take their time during dinner to enjoy the meal and the company but the service was slow and awful. If you're coming to have drinks and hang out they have a great outdoor space but I would recommend skipping this place for a full meal. Expensive and not worth it. Go elsewhere! read more

This place is sexy and fun, and while we went twice, we saw most people enjoying drinks and laughing with friends, and not so many dining. We chose three tapas the first time, patatas bravas (which I always have to try), croquettas (which my husband had never had) and one fried thing I really don't remember the name of and which I didn't care for anyway. The patatas bravas weren't spicy at all, but the fries themselves were fine. At least they led to an interesting conversation on the name ;) The croquettas were filled with meat and cheese and were delicious. We went back for those actually ;) For a safe bet on a sexy spot to enjoy some wine or mixed drinks and a snack, Barça is a good option. Who would have thought I would have found my own little legit piece of Barcelona in the heart of the De Pijp? I was searching for a spot to indulge in libations and good food and I remembered I bookmarked this place during my last visit to AMS. Well, slap me naked, I walked right by it twice and didn't realize it. I felt like Nick and Norah searching for the elusive "Where's Fluffy?" pop up and could not find this restaurant for the life of me. I finally saw it, kicked up my leg Lola Flores style and clacked my castanets like the Flamenco princess that I am in my mind. Note that it is winter time, so it is COLD as fudge yet I almost succumbed to sitting on their beautiful patio on account of the awesome patio setting. It's complete with fire pits and it faces a really nice fountain so you can people watch. Then a cold breeze traveled through and it slapped sense into me so I actually went in. Once seated, a really sweet server approached me and asked me what I wanted to drink and I immediately asked for the Sangria de Cava (Catalonian white wine). Now, this sangria was bad to the bone and had me believing that hope (and myself) floats. Imagine the Cava base infused with chunks of apple, orange, and pineapple. Not only was it refreshing, but it is dangerous as it will have you drinking glass after glass like there is no tomorrow. One of my friends met up with me and we got to ordering from the tapas menu. We ordered Chorizo Salteados, Dátiles con queso y bacón, Pulpo, Calamares, and Tortilla de patatas. The show stopper for me were the dátiles con queso y bacon. The sweetness of the goat cheese stuffed dates complemented the smoked bacon exquisitely. These dates almost melted in my mouth! I love the natural taste of chorizo and I love the fact that it was not overseasoned, letting you really take in the complexity of the meat. The pulpo (octopus) was served chilled with cubed potatoes - ceviche style. It was extremely refreshing and the flavors were enhanced by the sangria. The tortilla de patatas is a classic for me and I love the fluffiness of the egg. It was a tad bland for my taste, but not bad. Once I added a little salt and pepper, I was on my way. The calamares were a bit overcooked for my taste and borderline rubber-like consistency. Out of the 5 dishes this was my least favorite and I might stay away from it in the future just because there are sooo many other dishes I would rather try. With seating inside or outside you can't really go wrong. The ambiance is right on and it's a comfortable place to visit. It's somewhat loud but my friend and I could still hear each other just fine. We found the English menu to be very helpful and of course there are a lot of options! Watch the prices vs the proportions. I thought the beef tenderloin with herb oil was a good deal, but it was under a title that I didn't understand (it was in Spanish). It's basically one piece of bread with a spread and one slice of beef on top. It was delicious but pricey for one piece! Oh, and do not get bottled water...still or sparkling. It's pricey and many places but I don't think anyone wants to pay 5.50 for a glass full of water. I don't think that's just me! The tomato soup was so good! Definitely recommended on a chilly night. And the bread was nice too. It's a small loaf and we had it served with aioli which was mighty tasty. We each got a bowl of soup, the beef tenderloin (remember, one piece per order), and split a large bread and it was a good amount of filling. If you wanted dessert there or somewhere else, I'd imagine you would have enough room! All in all, I would definitely go again and I hope to go again! read more
