I sent my 20b rx7 to banzai racing. He did a compression test. Compression was great. Chris then tuned my car. Told me my car was great. When I got my car back it wouldnt run. horrible experience with Chris who is the owner of Bonzai Racing I ordered part online with Bonzai racing, and ordered the wrong item and placed another order to have the the correct item and left a message on the order explaining about the mistake I made and gave the order number and all the information about the previous order. Which both orders took place on the same day. The next day I called the store to confirm if they received my message and see what are my options for a return or cancel. I spoke with Chris who is the owner/President of his company Bonzai Racing. He started out talking normal and when I brought up the order, his attitude changed and told me it's already shipped, so I questioned how fast it was shipped. But he told me that it's already and if I looked at my email about his response in a rude manner. I questioned his customer service and asked is this how you treat your customers. I grew up in an automotive family and have owned RX7's since my 1984 GSL. I currently own a 1991 RX7 convertible. You hear people talk about "expert" mechanics, but in most cases it's just that ..... talk. However, in the case of Chris and Banzai Racing... he is redefining what an "expert" is. These guys are definitely one to avoid , they claim to sell parts they don't even have in stock , ordered a strut bar and it was only after that they decided to let me know it would take up to 4 months maybe longer , when I said refund they hit me with a fee and then claimed it was always on there site as a return policy. Extremely unprofessional outfit. They don't answer the phones and then get angry when you try to contact them through facebook. They sold me a product that I suspect is defective and was trying to get a replacement part, so I called them all day Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday (Thursday was Thanksgiving). Rather than leave a voicemail that may or may not be returned, I sent them a message through their facebook page. Here is the conversation I had with them (It goes without saying that I won't be doing business with them again): Me: Are you still in business? BR: Are you serious? Me: I've been trying to call for the last few days, but I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone. BR: It is thanksgiving. You obviously have not left a message on our voicemail or emailed as you would have received a response. What do you need? Me: It was before Thanksgiving, and that's why I sent the earlier message on facebook. I bought an aluminum AST from you about a year ago, and I can't remember if it came with a cap or not, but I think the cap on it has gone bad, so I've been trying to find a cap that will fit it without success. BR: Then you are not calling thr correct number as the phone always gets answered. Go to your loal aut parts store Me: I did, I bought another cap and coolant leaked out of it immediately. I've been calling 574 594 2035 BR: Don't know what to tell you, sounds like you got the wrong cap Me: i ordered another from petitt and it wasn't the right fit at all Do you sell caps individually? Whereas if I left a message on the phone, I wouldn't know if anyone got it or not... BR: I am confused why you asked if we are in business when we clearly have functioning phone with voice mail, a functioning website with email, an updated Facebook page with new products released only 2 days ago. Yet you select the most indirect form of contact when you claim to have been calling our shop during a holiday. Me: I didn't call on Thanksgiving, I called on Tuesday, Wednesday, and today. You had a facebook page, that was updated, which is why I contacted you on facebook, but I had no idea whether you were taking a hiatus or anything of that nature. It's been a few years, but since there are no reviews here on Yelp, I figured I should write one up quickly. Chris and Elaine are well known by rotary-engined car enthusiasts, and for good reason. Having had experiences at a few shops in the Midwest who deal mostly with rotary engined vehicles (most popularly the Mazda RX-7 and RX-8 lines), I can honestly say that Banzai is my favorite. The two of them are welcoming, friendly, and honest. I was ready to drop a few thousand dollars and leave my '91 RX-7 GTU with Chris, but he had me up and running in only a few hours (shows how much of a mechanic I am, right?). Shipped my car to Banzai Racing from FL after speaking to the "rotary tech" at the local Mazda dealership. I have waited to write this review for a couple months after final tuning. I had a Level 4 rebuild, street port and all the other recommendations to achieve a more powerful daily driver. Chris and Elaine were professional, responsive and walked me through every upgrade and expenditure. If you need a rotary shop, this is the place. A better shop does not exist. Chris is a rotary genius, and Elaine is very friendly and communicative. They keep you updated with that status of any repair work regularly, are extremely honest, you can tell they have a genuine passion for these cars and engines. Chris is extremely meticulous and thorough with any work he does and their shop is as clean as a hospital.
