Former Parent, I removed my son at the end of the 2016 school year. My son, completed the 5th…read moregrade at SMA and it was not a pleasant experience, all year long with the administrators and his 5th grade teacher. The head of the school is only concern with protocol and making sure the tuition is paid on time (which our was on time and before the due date). The teachers are nitpicky, with everything the children do. What they want are mindless robots. My son, witness the continuous mistreatment of a boy with Autism and these incidents were reported and nothing happened. I read another review from a parent, if the parent is not a teacher at the school than your child doesn't have a chance. My son was touched inappropriately by another student (younger) and I reported the incident and it happened again with not action taken by the administrator. Come to find out the problem child was a child of an administrator at the school so, I went to the Canton police and reported it... of course action was finally taken by the school. This wasn't the school for our family.

I had to take a double take to make sure I'm reviewing the right place because previous reviews are…read morecontradictory to our experience. My son who has a disability and developmental delays did the toddler summer camp program and the staff were more than accommodating, they handled everything amazingly and made us feel very comfortable. Apart from my son's specific needs, the school program was great, there's a lot of learning and and fun happening at the same time. We are not new to the montessori method, but i feel like schoolhouse exceeded our expectations. Teachers and staff are very friendly. We had no issues whatsoever, a very pleasant experience and will likely enroll our kids in the summer program.

My 3.5 year old daughter was admitted and we enrolled to start in the fall. We attended several…read moreevents, and she was beyond excited to have Ms. Shekar as her teacher. My daughter also has food allergies. During our tour and via email, the head of school, Julie confirmed that "I'm happy to provide as many protections in place as we can to keep xxx safe at school." However, when I followed up to confirm exactly what would be done and make firm plans, I received nothing but vague responses such as the above and then complete silence from 6/13 until 7/17 despite follow-up emails. When I finally received a response back on 7/17 within one day it was to my final email saying I wanted to unenroll due to not hearing back for so long and communication being key to managing her allergies at school. To be clear, I was asking for very reasonable accommodations, including: 1) Changing out the soap (the honey & milk Softsoap used has actual dairy in it) 2) Providing 10-15 minutes of education to the teachers on signs of anaphylaxis and administering her Auvi-Q using a tester 3) Understanding whether they would make the self-serve snack safe for her (this was offered on our tour and via email) or whether we would bring her own snacks in (which was perfectly fine with us) so that we could start preparing our daughter My daughter is in full-time preschool right now, so managing allergies at school is not new for us and has been done safely at her current school since she was an infant. To be very clear, food allergies are an ADA protected disability, and asking for 15 minutes of education and changing out soap at minimum is a very reasonable accommodation. The complete lack of response for weeks followed by a very quick response when I unenrolled tells me very clearly that Julie was worried about liability -or just did not want to deal with this. When I was exploring the school, I heard from five different sets parents who had left that the administration was horrible. Even at the end of year picnic I heard that from a parent who was leaving the school. And I naively disregarded that feedback because I figured how bad could it be, as long as the teacher was good the administration should have limited impact on her day-to-day education. I was obviously very wrong. The board also consists of the current head of school's two parents (one of whom was the prior head of school who many people also complained about), which makes me wonder how effective and unbiased it can possibly be. I shared the feedback above with some board members that I could not see an immediate blood relation to, and in fairness I was refunded my enrollment and application fees. That said, whether this was just horrible communication or blatant discrimination, the administration clearly is not effective and will have a bigger impact on day-to-day than anticipated so heed the advice of others and avoid!

Our toddler just started his first term at DHMC, and I have to say they have exceed all…read moreexpectations we had coming into the Montessori world. Two months into this journey, I'm so impressed by the breadth of experiences and knowledge the children at this school are exposed to, even the youngest among them. Every day, his wonderful teacher Ms. Stephanie, and her assistant Ms. Kris, send home a small slip that tells us what he "worked" on that day. What we see as play often times is work for these little humans we live with because they're working on developing skills. Imagine my surprise when I found out they were doing food tastings from the Toddler Garden, learning how to slice bananas, and working on practical life skills such as self-care. Our son, now 20-months-old will independently carry his bowl or plate to our kitchen sink, throw away garbage and help us sort recyclables, assist with pick up his dirty laundry or put away books, etc. Did I mention this is my same child who wasn't walking independently at 17-months-old, and after one week surrounded by his peers he was doing laps around our kitchen table? He has gained so much independence and confidence in these two short months, and as a parent that makes me more confident than ever about our choice to entrust the staff at DHMC with development. They're not just looking at test scores and assessments, they truly do teach to the "whole child" as advocated by the Montessori curriculum. If you want an authentic Montessori experience, whether your child is a toddler like mine, lower or upper elementary, or middle school, please give them a call and come see why we've fallen in love with this school and plan to continue this journey with them through 8th grade.

I think what keeps this school going is more so the lack of nice private schools to compete with…read more.. In the entire region (15miles perimeter) there is simply NO other schools that are non-religious oriented. For almost $10K/year (latchkey/lunch/etc at additional cost), I'd expect something much better. First, the school building needs renovation. It looks old, it smells old. My daughter uses the Montessori method fior leaning which seems to be working really well with her. Her reading skills at 1st grade was equivalent to 3rd grade... definetely the school methodology has something to do. But the materials are also very old... The staff is nice. What is really disturbing is that there is lots of school fund raising activities going on almost every month! And yet, the school is considered a non-profitable organization... oh well, go figure. Sometimes I actually wonder if the finances are mis-managed, because the gardens and the play area needs serious maintenance... as a matter of fact it is my biggest gripe for this school... it needs a serious face lifting but management is doing who knows what with the money... maybe I'm sponsoring 2 kids with tuiton I pay in full... who knows ...
