My daughter's car was impounded here. When I called their phone number spoke to a man named Jim. He told me I would have to pay an extra $200 to get the car back because he had already applied for the title. He said that is automatically done on the fifth day that your car is on their lot. My car had only been there four days, and I pointed that out to him. He wanted to argue about that. And insisted that I had to pay him $200 because he had already automatically applied for the title for my car. I spoke with someone at another towing company and they advised me that he was scamming me. I called Berkeley County police and spoke with an officer and he confirmed, based on the date the car had been impounded, that it had not been five days yet. The officer also advised me to ask Banks Towing to show me in writing their policy that they applied for the title after five days and that it cost $200. I called Jim back and told him that I would not be paying the $200 and advised him that I had spoken with the police. He then started backtracking and texting my daughter and telling her that he would tow the car to my house for free and to forget the $200 that it wasn't worth arguing about. Then told my daughter that I was not allowed to come inside the gate that he would call the police and say that I was trespassing. When I went to pick up the car, I tried to talk to the lady in the office, her name was Linda, and she came out of the building yelling at me and pointing her finger at me and telling me to remove myself from the property immediately. These people are absolutely nuts! She did however, tell my daughter who went in to pay the $472 fee that it took to get the car back that they do not automatically apply for the title after five days . She told her that what actually happens is that the towing company sends us a letter in the mail after five days saying they're going to take us to court. Obviously, we hadn't even gotten the letter yet because the day I called him was the fourth day the car was on his lot. So Jim was lying to me from the start just to try to extort an extra $200 for me! Stay away from this company unless you want to get ripped off! And if your car is impounded here and you have to go pick it up, just be aware right off the bat that this guy is going to try to steal $200 from you and take precautions. read more
