The Good: Bank Employees are super friendly and professional, especially in Narragansett. And thier ATMS are flawless and over the past 5 years I've only seen one "Out of Order ATM" and no ATM transaction problems with deposits or withdrawals. I also like the Zelle and Arch Bill Payment options. The Bad: Register only goes back a year or two for export to excel. Thier Banking app was updated recently and crashes on my iphone or needs to be restarted almost everytime I use it now. There *seems* to be a significantly longer delay in posting debit transactions to my account over the past few years.. For example, if I pay several bills electronically on Friday morning, they won't appear on my account until Monday, yet I receive an alert from my credit card companies that the payment was processed a day or two before. Same goes for checks I write to businesses or my landlord deposit immediately. It won't appear on my balance for a week or more in some cases now, when in the past they registered the next day.. It almost seems they are hoping customers will overdraft who don't monitor thier accounts closely. I am about to open another checking account with a online bank to compare. read more

THIEVES, These people prey on those with little money, they are ABUSIVE. Tried to make a payment through BankNewport the payment was rejected because I was short a COUPLE of dollars, so they immediately took a $30 fee. They decide after taking my $30 dollars they would try the payment again, it failed and they took ANOTHER $30. Having tried twice and robbed me of $60 dollars they decide it was a good idea to try again. Can you guess what happened? Corrected it failed again and they took an additional $30 for a total of $90 from an account that had just a few hundred dollars that I need for rent and other expenses. Called the bank was totaled that is their policy to make 3 tries and charge $30 for each time it fails. You tell me who BankNewport is most concerned with? I am moving my account to a bank that ACTUALLY cares about the customer. $90 for a payment that was short a few dollars is ABUSIVE. DO NOT USE THIS BANK!! You have been warned!! read more

Very difficult to do business with this bank when it comes to a mortgage. Transferring prepayments requires constant interaction with the mortgage department. Does NOT offer free checking to those who have mortgages. Can do much better with a credit union. never dealt with a bank that required so much work on my part read more

I've been using this local bank for all my banking needs. They have had my mortgage since day one. It has been a huge pleasure doing business on any level . The customer service is outstanding. I have felt with 3 different branches over the years and found the same helpful , friendliness in all. There have been times where we have refinanced our mortgage over the years. The bank has made it convenient and easy to do this. Dan always let us know if it was worth refinancing. My husband and work different shifts so it makes it hard to get together to sign paperwork. It wasn't a problem there was a solution found. I'm happy to say in 3 years we will be owners of the house we've worked so hard to fully say it's ours. We have been advised well through the years with the banking staff . I give it 5 stars! read more

We went here to get our mortgage. However in the beginning of our process Bank Newport decided to no longer offer FHA loans which was the type of loan we were getting. Gina who was the lady we were working with was very nice about the situation and helped us get all our paperwork in order and find another lender even though she knew she couldn't help us get a loan directly. She was also very nice and when we had questions answered them promptly. It was a shame they could no longer do the loan for us because they were friendly, helpful, nice, and even though they personally couldn't do the FHA loan for us they helped us tremendously in getting everything together and finding another lender that offers FHA loans. I would suggest them for anyone local looking to get a conventional mortgage. read more

A local bank that doesn't really go above and beyond for their customers, but seems to be satified with mediocrecy. Offers nothing extra to entice the blue collar worker to keep their hard earned dollars here, rather than elsewhere. The lines are usually 2 to 4 people deep for customer to teller transactions which can sometimes turn into a lengthy wait. The hours are shorter than most traditional branches; and, the only reason I can honestly think as of why I myself continue to do business with this bank is the free coin counter located within the branch. Unless it's within close proximity to your daily routine; I'd choose somewhere else where your loyalty is actually valued. read more

I'm a very active customer at Bank Newport -- with a primary checking account, a savings account, CD and a mortgage that is automatically deducted each month from my checking account there. I have an ATM card in case I need cash when I travel. Well, I travelled to NYC this weekend and my ATM card would not work. I tried two banks. Turns out that Bank Newport purges ATM cards if they have not been used in 6 months. My card had an expiration date of October 2016 on it, but nevertheless, it had been eradicated from the Bank Newport system. I received no notice that my ATM card needed to be used to stay active. I didn't receive a notice when it was cancelled. I don't have the kind of account that gives me benefits for using a debit or ATM card, so I don't get it. Seems like the bank would let a very active customer know when they were cancelling one of her services! Maybe they have really tiny computers. Or maybe they just don't care. read more

Do not get an account at BankNewport unless you like feeling devalued often. I had a problem with bill pay, 6 bills went through that I had not authorized and they charged me $180. They drained my account. I talked to many customer service reps and they refused to help or even make a reasonable offer. I was faced with the choice of feeding my family for 2 weeks or paying up this awful, predatory institution. Obviously I chose the former. As a customer I understand that if a business doesn't value you as a customer, do business elsewhere. BankNewport is a blight on the community. Their policies are designed to bilk you out of every penny. They even have the gall to charge you a dollar to make a withdrawal at the teller! read more
