We were in town from California for my son's Boot Camp graduation, and since he loves good Asian food, we decided to try Bangkok Tokyo. It turned out to be a great choice! The menu has a wide variety of options--everything from sushi to ramen--so it worked perfectly for our larger group since everyone could find something they liked. Even in the middle of the day (around 3:00 PM), they were able to seat all of us together with no issue, which was much appreciated. Service was a little on the slower side, but the staff was attentive and kind, making sure we had what we needed. The food itself was excellent--fresh, flavorful, and presented well. Prices were right around what I expected for this type of restaurant, and definitely worth it for the quality and portion sizes. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, making it an easy spot to sit down and enjoy a meal. Plus, the air conditioning was a huge bonus in the North Chicago heat! It was after lunch, but it was before dinner, so we stopped in to get something small. The restaurant was empty. It has an elegant classy feel. We split a Bangkok sampler platter (satay and crab rangoons very good) and some soup. I had Tom Yum which was generous portion and sour and a little spicy. The server was very friendly although only approached us when I made eye contact or gave them a nod. Strawberry margarita taste wasn't as expected - Bangkok Mai Tai way better - went on a Tuesday after work and slow paced- that's when it's empty. I went during the week and got a lunch special plus crab rangoons and gyoza. The service was good, and they checked in often. Food came out fast. Would be good for a quick lunch if you're in a hurry. As far as the food goes, the crab rangoon was alright. It had some strong seasoning in it that I'm not used to. The gyoza seemed to be premade and similar to what I would buy in the freezer section. I didn't like the sauce to dip it in. The noodles dish- I believe pad see mao with chicken was a pile of mush. It was edible but definitely not the best. According to my boyfriend who lives in this area, it's hard to find good restaurants here. But one day I happened to discover this place that's really close to his home and he has never been! It's quite hidden in a corner near the Heinen's grocery store. There are other shops and stores nearby too. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the food here. Very tasty and nice presentation. It's rare that restaurants offer duck so I definitely had to get that! I also liked the platter because I could have a little of everything. We really enjoyed the salmon lemon roll that we got. It was fresh and flavorful, and we will definitely get this sushi again for takeout in the future. Bangkok Tokyo Restaurant is definitely the spot for lunch. The lunch special is worth it. Ha, that being said, let me get into it. The food is very good. I feel everything is very fresh and you can really see that they care for the customers in every dish. I got the lunch special which was good considering I had to limit myself on certain types of food. So it was the right amount. The service was great our waitress really checked in often and they refilled our water often. Hard to find places where they do that for customers now a days. The atmosphere or ambiance like I call it, relay nice the lighting and decor inside really was refreshing as it wasn't too much. Overall, I would say BTR is really worth every penny and the food quality and tailored service for every customer / table really makes one feel like they are as important and everyone being served. Good Japanese and Thai food. Their noodle dishes and their bento boxes are always good. The beef teriyaki bento box is one we always order. And if you like spicy noodles- try the Pad Ki-Mao! It's really good! Do order the petite egg rolls too, you won't be disappointed! Unfortunately, last time we ate here the miso soup was a bit on the cold side. my son ordered the salmon sashimi entree and he couldn't eat it for a while. Tried this place on a trip to Chicago area for work. Wasn't our first choice of places as I am not a big fan of Thai food outside of Thailand, But this place was kinda a fusion of Thai, Japanese and Chinese cooking. So i got the orange chicken. I will say this i wasn't expecting much from it, but i was shocked when they brought it out nice big pieces of chicken and it was so crunchy that was the kicker for me the crunch factor as most place the chicken is over soaked in the sauce and get soggy but this one was awesome and yummy. Most likely our first and last visit to this mediocre Thai restaurant. All of the food entrees we ordered were small in portion size and taste were not good at all. The frickin' Chicken Noodle Soup was basically a small cup, which they charged $7.75 for! The Fresh Rolls were cut into 4 pieces from 1 whole one and that was for $7.75 as well! Pad Ki-Mao had the wrong kind of noodles ans seasoning used! Some were spicier than expected, with other ingredients and seasoning not matching the noodles and veggies at all! I have eaten plenty of Thai food in my life to know what is authentic and delicious Thai food and this place does not have it! Even the Chicken Pad Thai was off!! And that is a popular Thai dish to almost everybody! Not sure what kind of recipes the chefs and sous chefs are using, but they really need to change/modify the menu. We have always enjoyed Bangkok Tokyo food but tonight the food was not good. We ordered 13 different items for takeout many medium spicy like we always do. But every one of them was fiery hot and barely edible. Also the wonton in the wonton soup tasted old. There was also plenty of sweet sauce but no mustard sauce which is among my favorites. After a late night workout, we didn't feel like cooking so we decided to try Bangkok Tokyo, which has been on my moms radar ever since first seeing it. They offer a wide variety of Asian food options, from Thai food, to Japanese, and even Chinese! We decided to get the Sesame Chicken, Chicken Pad Thai, Green Curry, and the papaya salad! Everything was delicious, and DEI finitely hit the spot. The portion sizes were really good as well! I wish the papaya salad had a tad more fermented fish taste to it, and some of the dishes were very Americanized (which it is hard to make authentic dishes when the menu is so extensive)! Well, where can I start? Went tonight (11/19) and would never recommend this place. The location is nice, the shopping center is inviting however the service and the amount of time it took for our food to arrive to our table was ridiculous! The most annoying part of all, our food kept arriving one dish at a time and our family of 4 couldn't enjoy our meal all together. The main reason one goes to a restaurant is to enjoy a meal together with their family, something not fully grasped at this establishment. It seems the host was more concerned on keeping that fancy montcler jacket clean that he was addressing the obvious screw up on their end. Normally you do not think of an Asian restaurant as a breakfast destination. Though I am always on the hunt for an alternative to the traditional breakfast joints. I ordered a Bloody Mary and which was nice and spicy also. The most interesting aspect of this classic breakfast was the way they prepare the brussels sprouts. They cut them into small "flakes" and deep fry them - and season to perfection. Next are mixed in with the Yukon gold potatoes. I have never had them served this way before, but I gotta say they were incredible. I love the versatility of the menu. My wife ordered the Matcha waffles with fresh strawberries.The pairing of the matcha sauce with a traditional waffle was incredible. Who ever came up with this recipe should be praised The menu really has something for everyone, but it doesn't feel confused or like it's pandering. If you want good Asian food, STAY AWAY! The food here is tasteless, flavorless, and overall disgusting. I ordered a noodle soup with shrimp tempura and while the noodle soup was average, it needed TONS of hot sauce in order to have any sort of flavor. The shrimp tempura was over fried and also lacked flavor. I also ordered a carry out dish of sweet and sour chicken to take home to my family and ended up with a DISGUSTING FRIED HEAP of tasteless chicken with some weird sauce. The only thing that was good was the rice, but seriously, this place would have to be in the negative stars if they screwed up rice too. I noticed the reviews but did not fully read them before coming because I thought that since restaurants with delicious tasting food such as Le Colonial had a three star rating solely based on service that I would give them a try, and I highly regret it. Went here to celebrate a birthday. Food was decent. The service was...interesting. Got there a little after 730pm, was informed that the kitchen closed at 830. Definitely felt rushed and pressured regarding placing our orders for our meal. But the icing on the top was then the fact that we were questioned about how much we tipped. I mean, tipping is essentially based on the quality of the service the customers receive and we didn't receive good service. The fact being that we were rushed when trying to place our orders, like dude, give us some actual time to figure out what we want instead of coming by 3 minutes after we sat down asking about what we wanted, telling them we wanted more time and then coming back after another 3 minutes pressing us to make a decision. It was definitely a red flag. Essentially, the tip was given out of the goodness of our hearts, not because of the "stellar" service we received. (Ha!) Especially being ridiculed and questioned about the amount of the tip after the meal was done. Just tackless. Overall, meal was sub par and I would high recommend you look elsewhere. I went out to try the new brunch menu here and was surprised by how great it was! My family and I shared a couple of dishes and tried a few cocktails and we loved each one. The matcha mochi waffles were definitely a winner for me and the Into the Forest drink was so cute with the little bear on top and it was super unique and yummy too!
