I have been a fan of Bangkok Cafe for several years, and it was my go-to eatery when I was living as a student in Trondheim. They serve fresh and flavoursome thai cuisine, and the dishes always taste like they were made from scratch, as opposed to other asian restaurants in Norway, where it is plain that premade curry paste from jars is used liberally... I would recommend one of the curry soups - green, red or tom kha gai, which are all spicy and have a real zing. The noodle woks are often less inspiring and a tad too greasy. Apart from the food, the place doesn't look like much, and you have to collect yor cutlery and glasses from plastic boxes at the till - but this has always been part of the charm to me. The food is also on the cheap side - ca 149NOK for a main course. The location is very central, so if you should find yourself in Trondheim and fancy a flovour fest but don't want to splurge, I can heartily recommend Bangkok Cafe! read more

Bangkok Café is the restaurant I hear my colleagues talk about a lot. So I had to try it. It is partly a take away, partly a restaurant. It is not very big and the service is basic. You will have to order at the counter (in the meantime have a look in the kitchen where the Thai prepare your dinner), pay immediately and they will serve it at your table. You can choose to sit at a normal table or at one on the platform (take your shoes off!) where you have a hole under the table so you don't have to sit on your legs. The food is very good! In my opinion, the Bangkok Cafe only provided an ok Thai food experience. Our Pad Thai was dry and lacked the flavours and aromas that are typically used in other Thai dishes. The dish lacked the amount of fresh vegetables that is usually found in a Pad Thai dish, so we were pretty disappointed with that. My go to place in Trondheim for thai food. You order and pay at the counter, and the service is only basic. The price and the quality of the food is very good. My favourite is the pad thai, very tasteful and filling. read more
