Here's my story. I swear to its honesty and authenticity! You need to read it in its entirety to…read morebelieve it. You be the judge... We bought a home through Hunt Realty in upstate NY in April, 2015. We live out-of-state. Hunt begged that we give their Mortgage Dept. a chance at being the lender, and since I had a good experience with the realtor, we decided to give Hunt Mortgage a shot. What a mistake! Things went awry from the beginning. A few days into the process, the head mortgage lender (Tom Fererra) sent me an email saying (word for word): "I will be in meetings for the majority of the day today with limited access to phone and email". As it turns out, he went on a 3 day skiing trip. We had questions regarding timely information that we were required to submit but were unable to contact him for 3 days. Who does that...lies so blatantly? And why would we care if he went on a mini vacation? A week later, we flew into town to see the home and reached out to Tom. He said he was busy "but would gladly call us back later that night or the next morning." Neither happened. After we returned, I called to ask why he had not contacted us and to ask for clarification on a property tax issue. I mentioned his unreliability, and he man started YELLING at me over the phone! Who does that... yells at a client whom is borrowing 100's of thousands of dollars? I had enough, so I wrote a review with the local BBB. They called the president of Hunt Mortgage (Linda Mallia) to see if it was true. She called me. I told her my story and she found everything to be true. She sounded very concerned, so I canceled my complaint. Boy, am I sorry! Yes, there's more... Since we could not attend the closing, we used the attorney they recommended (Vaughn Lang) to represent us as our power of attorney. 2 weeks later, we still did not have the closing papers! So I wrote an email asking where our documents were. We owned a new home for 2 weeks and were not sent the paperwork! Who does that? Turns out, the lawyer was holding the closing papers ransom for a $70 charge they FORGOT to include in the closing statement! He questioned my character, but excused his. Buying a home is one of the biggest purchases anyone does in their lifetime and you would hope the experience could be a pleasant one. But take it from an experienced home buyer (I've bought 7 homes) this is the LAST place you should look to use as your lender! Additionally, they sold the mortgage within days. Its a turnkey operation, so it makes sense that they don't care about their clients. There's more. AFTER all was said in done, over a month later, Hunt Mortgage sent an AUDIT letter to my CPA because they were angry with me for complaining. Who does that? My CPA was flabbergasted ! They not only have poor business acumen, but are spiteful. Stay away.

If I could give them less than 1 star I would. I previously had a mortgage through Devere Capital…read moreso I thought my mortgage history with them would count for something, well, it didn't. I had my loan approved by August 21st and was forced to wait to close until October 2nd due to the sellers horrible attorney. My loan package expired September 19th and I could not get the search and survey from the seller to close by the 19th. So what did Hunt Mortgage do to reward me? They charged me a loan extension fee of $1, 049. Yep, that's right I got dinged $1,049 for being on top of my finances and getting them the requested documents in a timely manner. If I had only been a lazy, unorganized borrower, somehow that would have put me in better standing. I gave them a bad review in the closing survey and they called me to tell me too bad. Don't do business with them you're interested in paying extra.
