Banana Leaf is a Filipino establishment with about 8 branch locations in the country. It's where local diners can experience the cuisine of neighboring countries in the SouthEast Asian region. It takes a modern day approach on some Malaysian, Singaporean, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese and Indonesian delights.
We visited the Bonifacio Global Fort location during this trip. As you enter, you are immediately drawn to the wall decorated with banana leaf wallpaper and the bright yellow tables and chairs. The vibe in this location is truly tropical and sets you up for the varied food experience you are about to indulge in.
We opted for a dish from at least each country represented: Indian Roti, Malaysian Nasi Goreng and Chicken Rendang, Vietnamese Pomelo Salad, and Thai Green Curry to name a few. As dishes come to the table, it may seem that the flavors from the various countries would overpower one over the other. However, they all seem to work and compliment each other in a satisfying manner.
My only complaint during service was that the server misunderstood our order. We ordered one Nasi Goreng but they ended up dishing out about four orders. Nevertheless, our hosts ended up taking a couple to go. The flavors and presentation of the food are definitely representative of the flavors of the original dishes. A must try when in the Philippines. read more
