While my wife was getting her hair washed, our son's haircut was done, so she didn't get to see the result until the very end. Her haircut itself was fine, but the blow dry was poorly done. The stylist only straightened the mid-lengths and ends, leaving the top 2-3 inches at the roots curly and frizzy. When she pointed this out, the stylist said it was "because her hair is curly." She explained that she had plenty of blowouts before and that the roots are always smoothed. He offered to flat iron it, but that's not what she wanted. She expected a proper blowout, not bone-straight hair. When she told him that he should've been upfront if he couldn't do a blowout, he got defensive and raised his voice. She wasn't going to let anyone speak to her disrespectfully, so she raised her voice too. At that point, the other stylist stepped in to re-wet her hair, and my wife used her own curly hair products and just left with her hair natural. Then she looked at our son's haircut and it was visibly uneven and crooked. When she brought it up, both stylists insisted it was "just the way curly hair looks" or that she was "pulling on a strand." That wasn't the case, it was just a bad, rushed cut. They did offer to fix it, but by then she'd lost all confidence in their ability to do so. If you don't know how to properly work with curly hair, cutting it or blowing it out , just say so. This wasn't our first time here, and her previous experience was decent, but this visit was disappointing. It felt rushed and careless, and that simply doesn't work with curly hair. We won't be coming back.

Once my eyebrow waxer left (a long time ago), I decided to just stop getting waxed because the new girl did an awful job and I never bothered trying anyone else. As a woman who's struggled to maintain the health of my own either relaxed or natural hair, She has made sure the health of my hair is at the forefront. She uses the best products and gives me advice on the products I should get to for care for my hair at home. I appreciate this because she's given me the agency and confidence to know how to maintain the health of my hair on my own. However, every time I do show up, which I can easily schedule myself online, she gives me a look that suits me and my personality. Random people on the street always compliment me after a fresh cut from the shop. Not only is she an expert stylist, she's an awesome human! I value the connection, comfort, and rapport she provides.
