The waiter seated us, handed us a menu stating that if we wanted to read it in English to scan the QR code, then 2 seconds later asked what food and drinks we wanted to order. We politely asked for a few minutes to review the wine list. He was not that happy and left. Several other couples, French speaking, were seated and were politely attended to. We waited another 10+ mins and the waiter never returned to our table but did attend the other tables. I had to motion to the manager to ask if we could have a waiter return. We ordered a nice bottle on wine and some water and again asked to give us a moment to enjoy some wine before reviewing the dinner menu. They brought our wine and left, without uncorking the wine. We again had to motion for the manager to have someone open our wine. The French speaking tables were served and attended too promptly. We ordered our meal and it was delicious. But it seemed to me that being Americans we would be served differently than the others. While spending ~200 chf I would expect nice service. We were not demanding or rude and said thank you with every visit from the servers but it didn't help much. I understand service in some places may be slower but we were absolutely treated different than others. Just my opinion.

Definitely reserve in advance if you plan to eat here. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting. You feel as if you are in an intimate historic French bistro, thanks to the wood panelling and wall of antiquated black and white photographs. We each had the plat du jour, which that day was a club chicken sandwich which a couple of roasted potatoes and green salad. Everything was delicious down to the yummy dressing on the salad. The greens in the salad were so fresh it was if I had gone in the back yard to pick them. The service was also very friendly. I will definitely put this on my list of places to return to. Thankfully I also noticed a flyer on the counter advertising an English brunch that takes place here every Sunday (they emphasise that the also speak English in the advert). You need to make reservations in advance. They serve from 10:30- 15:30. To find out more check out the following website: www.lebrunchclub.com. Definitely count me in to try this in the near future.

The owner is warm and friendly, a big contrast from other restaurants in a city that is often needlessly formal and impersonal. The restaurant is small and intimate, and has been increasingly busy in recent weeks. It's tucked away on a small side street, so the outdoor patio available during the summer is quiet and relaxed. They offer picnic basket lunches/dinners--call ahead and for the price of a meal you can take your picnic basket to the park, which is 2 blocks away. A wonderful and whimsical idea that I hope will take off. Entrees are relatively large and could suffice for a small main dish. Mains are well-portioned (meat and vegetarian dishes alike are good), and desserts are wonderful, especially if fruity. They use fresh, high-quality ingredients. If I have any complaints, they are minor: I wish they would keep more regular hours (during the week it's not a problem but on a Sunday or Monday it's best to call ahead) and they could rotate their menu more frequently (it changes once every month or two months). But both comments are a testament to how often we go--it's not their fault that we will pop in five times in a single month.

The restaurant has a wonderful terrace area, and it was warm outside, and we enjoyed a nice plat du jour, with great service. Two years ago, I would have easily rated my experience with four stars. I had forgotten the name and location of the restaurant, and during a recent walk was super excited to have happened across this place. The entrance is at first hard to spot, but is unforgettable afterwards. I quickly planned a lunch with a colleague to return, and had said great things about this place. After today, I don't think my colleague will every trust me to pick another lunch spot. The experience was night and day different. The plat du jour wasn't appealing, so we chose a mushroom pasta lunch dish, for 23 CHF we were not expecting what was delivered to us - which was appetiser size and luke warm, but at least tasted OK. Not to mention, the service was unfriendly and extremely slow, even though the place was not full, and there were numerous servers. We were still a bit hungry, so thought to order a tasty looking dessert, which is not something that is specially cooked, yet when requested the server mentioned it would take 15+ minutes to receive. That was the icing on the cake of the dismal service. All we wanted to do was get out of there. My friend was in such a hurry to relieve ourselves of the dismal experience she forgot to even sip the last of her wine, which is something that never happens! The only thing positive was the wine was decently priced, and they had a good selection of opened wines to choose from. Also, the bread they served with the meal was highly tasty. The business is part restaurant and clothing store. The setting is artsy and open. The food itself also was well presented and pleasing to the eye. Everything else just well below expectations. I am not sure if the ownership has changed in two years, but I have never had such a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde experience with a restaurant before.

We were given the best seat in the house, which was a bay window with breathtaking views of the Matterhorn. Our waitress was very friendly and also joined us for conversation around the fire. She knew everything and ingredients on the menu, which answered many of our 5 course meal questions. After we finished our glasses, we were escorted to the table where we enjoyed a meal that was fresh with locally grown ingredients. Each dish complimented the next and paired well with the accompanied drinks. The dessert was a delightful chocolate finish to a meal well prepared. Like all Michelin star fine dining restaurants, this is all about sensory dining on a menu designed to focus on the flavor and ingredients of the region. Modernist cuisine plays nicely with the traditional. Note: Prefix menus include a full vegetarian option. Any item can be ordered ala carte as well. Exceptional amuse course in three bites teases you with the taste of mountain herbs to cheese, to pickles and breads. Menu descriptions are deceivingly simple guaranteeing a surprise as each dish is delivered and tasted. The "Risotto"; mushrooms, seven mountain herbs and the incredibly creamy, aged Acquerello rice (gratis from the chef), excellent. Vibrant green in color, mounted with Swiss butter to finish. Very creamy, exploding with familiar and new flavors including an pronounced herb similar in aroma to the original Ricola. Baby mushrooms sautéed in rich butter and aggressively seasoned in contrast to raw sliced white mushrooms adorn the rice. The earthiness of the raw mushrooms and it's lack of richness adds contrast. Such a simple but rich and delicious dish. "Edible Crab", a trio of fresh picked and simply formed rounds of crab topped by mysterious pickled this and that in an intensely flavored soup of green beans and zesty lemon finished with drops of citrus oil. The pleasing medicinal notes of the pickles serve to smooth the briny, oceanic flavor of the crab. So many foreign flavors that blend beautifully together. Outstanding. "Green Beans" - the essence of a bean. The highly concentrated puree with beans in various states of being cooked or pickled. Tomato adds bright acidity to the refreshing, intriguing "soup". Escalope (Venison loin), amazing. Simply seasoned with salt and cooked rare, excellent. Gamey in all the right ways. Extremely tender, dense, juicy and flavorful. It pairs well with the tart mountain cranberry sauce that heightens the pleasing metallic notes and a uber rich butter poached king oyster mushroom that brings meaty decadence. Finally the wiener schnitzel, done the way it should be. Very thin slices of tender veal surrounded by a golden brown, fluffy crust oozing with rich butter flavor. Impressive in its utter simplicity. Petit fours and assortment of incredible Swiss chocolate round out the meal. Exceptionally friendly service lacking any stuffiness. Extremely well chosen wine list focuses on the wines of the country. An excellent meal that showcases the region and what Swiss food can be elevated to.
