Last time I visited it took longer than that so the staff happily gave us free lunch vouchers for next time. I recently went to use those and the staff was very nice and friendly when we brought them up to the counter. We got the breaded chicken burger as that is halal. Sides included skinny chips, thick chips, simple salad, and coleslaw. Definitely would come back!

Ten minutes later, comes the beer. That needs a fixin. Now, a burger is a kind of sandwich. A sandwich is something you can pick up with one hand and eat while reading a map. I got a cramp in my face trying to get my mouth around this thing. I had to eat this thing with a knife and fork. The bun was superfluous. It was tasty otherwise, though the 'onion rings' in the burger came apart long before they were cooked, leaving streaks of batter within the burger. They're perhaps best left as a side. The chips/fries here are a fail. The nothingness of the skinny fries or the pale not quite crispness of the chunky fries don't leave much of a dilemma. I avoid. As is par for the course in a restaurant that narrowly misses the mark, the service is mostly excellent; the staff is warm and friendly. That is worth the visit. Otherwise, some quality-control is needed.

This place absolutely nails the spooky, historic ambience and that alone makes it worth the visit. Built into the rock and filled with low ceilings, uneven floors, and centuries of history, it genuinely feels like stepping back in time. Every corner has character and a slightly eerie charm that adds to the experience rather than taking away from it. The ambience is easily the highlight here. From the dim lighting to the old stone walls and hidden nooks, it feels authentic and atmospheric without trying too hard. It is the kind of place where you want to slow down, look around, and soak it all in. If you appreciate history or enjoy places with a bit of mystery and legend behind them, this pub delivers in a big way. Service was good overall but not outstanding. Staff were friendly and helpful, though things moved at a relaxed pace, especially when it got busy. Orders were correct and everyone was polite, but there were moments where service felt just okay rather than exceptional. That said, the staff fit the vibe of the place well and were happy to answer questions about the history, which added to the experience. Drinks were solid and what you would expect from a historic pub. Nothing mind blowing, but enjoyable and well poured. The food was decent and satisfying, fitting the traditional pub feel, even if it did not completely steal the show. Overall Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is a place you go for the atmosphere and history first, with good service and an enjoyable experience rounding it out. It is not perfect, but it is unique, memorable, and absolutely worth a visit when in Nottingham. Four stars for a spooky, historic pub that delivers charm and character in spades.

Like all structures of this era, the ceilings are quite low and the stairs and rooms are quite twisty and full of surprises. The staff was so nice and efficient. I ordered at the bar downstairs and had my meal delivered to a table on the next floor (see video). I've taken many trips to the UK, and frequented many establishments with signs claiming the "world's best fish and chips.". The fish was amazing and perfectly prepared. The chips were not greasy at all, and very flavorful. The highlight was the fresh peas! Bursting with flavor. I rate the fish and chips second only to the Mayfair Chippy in London, however, the ambiance and experience takes it over the top even if you're only slopping by for a pint.
