Arrived at around 6 on Friday night, the drive up went ok although I'm sure the satnav screwed us as per usual. Annoyingly the onsite parking at the hotel was full, both front and back, after circling the place like parking space eating vultures we gave up and parked at a free car park along the road behind the Co-op. It didn't look all that secure but we had no problems, other than a wee walk to the hotel, which probably was similar in length to the walk to the back car park. The hotel is quite big and has lots of rooms on different levels even on the same floor. Potential difficulty for older people with heavy bags I suppose. The hotel was nice, not dated, but not new, the room was nice and clean if a little small, though it did have a fairly large T.V. The spa part lied and said it had a steam room, which it didn't but it did have a sauna. Some of the signs were misleading, like the one to the pool which we couldn't actually access, instead you had to go through the bar and then the ballroom. We breakfasted here twice and had dinner once. The food was good but the service was a little slow on two out the three occasions. All this moaning, then why a 4 star review I hear you ask? Simple, the staff, they were absolutely great really accommodating, helpful, friendly and cheerful, they really helped to make this a good experience. We also booked hot stone massages at late notice which and they were as accommodating as they could be in this respect. If I was up this way I would be happy to come here again, however, had the staff not been so great then it was probably more of a 3 star kinda place.

Blairgowrie is a lovely place and this is an awesome place to stay. Just a 10 minute walk to the town centre and the great pubs on offer, you feel very remote but with the bonus of having great amenities such a short walk away. There's also a big Coop and Tesco if you forget anything. Lodges are all self catering with extensive facilities. Owners are very friendly and will help you out if you want to go on a nice walk or see some lovely scenery. The only downside is there's no wifi available in the lodges. If they had this it would be awesome as mobile coverage is patchy.

But outside on a nice day is perfect. I grabbed a spot with my son who just loved the sunny sky, cool breeze and watching the water flow down the stream underneath. There is a waterfall at the back of the restaurant and plenty of space for the kids to wander around. I ordered the butter chicken, which was tasty. Not the best in the world, but hit the spot. My son got the burger and my partner got the steak pie, which was out of this world. We had steak pie in Edinburgh, but this one was so much better in quality. Overall, the ambiance here can't be beat. We loved it and truly felt so relaxed by the river. The service was friendly and efficient!

Rather bizarrely located in Perth Aerodrome, this is great budget accommodation just north of…read moreScone. But although the price is low, the standard of lodging is actually rather good. I would rate it as similar to or even a bit better than Travelodge. Rooms are all en-suite and well-appointed, the beds are comfortable too. There is a good-size television, a couple of comfy armchairs, a hair-dryer, wardrobe, free Wi-Fi and of course tea and coffee-making facilities. The bathroom has a bath and a good hot shower, and everything is in good condition throughout. The breakfast is actually served in a different building, and is a DIY Continental buffet affair with toast, croissants, scones, cereal etc. But it's fine and you can eat as much as you want. If you're looking for budget accommodation in Scone, you are basically limited to either the selection of B&B's on the way out of Perth (of which there are many), or go past Scone a similar distance in the other direction and stay at the Skylodge. I think for the price, this place is hard to beat.

Just a wee update - the hotel is having a refurbishment and is already looking very smart indeed…read more We stayed for a couple of nights in one of the new rooms (the 'super-king superior') - actually, we were the first guests in there - and really enjoyed the 'new look' of the place, even though there is still building work going on. The bar-restaurant area has been completely redesigned with more seating space and a larger bar with separate eating area behind. The decor is very 'country estate' with flagstone floors and rustic wallpaper. They've hung a selection of pictures, mostly etchings of historical figures, which we were told have some connection with the estate (Marie Antoinette?). Every table held a hand-made flower holder hewn from a length of tree branch, and there's a wood-burning stove straddling the wall between the bar and eating area that I imaging will keep things cosy in the winter. Our room was lovely, with a huge four-poster bed and a vague rococo feel to the furnishings and decor, although the fixtures were bang up to date. We especially loved the walk-in shower in the en-suite (with choice of 'normal' or 'rain' shower head), and if that wasn't enough for you, there's a bath as well! We ate dinner both nights of our stay, and the food hasn't deteriorated since our last encounter I'm glad to say. The server on the second night was a young boy who was clearly in need of some further training in customer relations, but the rest of the staff were really friendly and made us feel right at home.

So this review is merely for the dining and the events space. We had dinner one night and it was a set menu with a few nice choices at each course. Amongst our large party, we all seemed to enjoy the meal, but there wasn't anything particularly stand-out or remarkable. Just nice. The big event was a ruby wedding celebration. It was a large-scale afternoon tea. The food was either quite good (the meringues and the eclairs) or just passable (the finger sandwiches). The service throughout the event was sub-par, with more than one of us never getting the drinks we ordered. A few people ordered from servers more than once and still never got a beverage! The servers seemed few and far between and often would take car of half a table and than disappear without ever speaking to the rest of those seated. It was really odd. That being said, those who were there were at least friendly. The few children in attendance were catered to nicely and there was a nice air about the whole place. We were welcome to linger throughout the afternoon in the lobby with conversations and later in the bar area. Everyone there was polite and welcoming, but service did remain rather slow. I'd be happy to try the Huntingtower again if we're in the Perth area. Especially as we weren't able to stay there and the accommodations sounded nice.

For my start, I ordered the mussels in thyme butter, both delightful & understated, ( as an alternative to my usual spicy creations) with a delicate aftertaste. My wife chose the mushroom risotto, again a warming, flavoursome starter with just enough to whet the appetite. For the main, I chose the venison, with wilted greens, the smallest pillow of daupginause potatoes, with just the merest hint of a tangy jus. The venison was medium rare with just a hint of the raw element. My wife decided on the lamb, it was moist, soft & tender. As I recall it was also served with wilted greens & mash. We cannot thank the chefs enough, and six stars seems too measley a high score to award, but rest assured they are well deserved. The wine list is varied with enough to please even the most discerning pallette. The hotel is well presented, with that homely feel, yet modern & fresh. A walk through the beautiful well kept grounds & we were ready to head home. We both look forward to our next visit.

We made someone run inside and were told the right way to get to reception. They have a place to park our huge van, but we had to wait for people to leave so that we could fit. In the end, reception told us to just leave it on the street since her car was there. We were only going to be here one night. Not even a whole day, just one night. The hotel is older without an elevator. The rooms are decorated really cute with a little canopy over our comfy bed. The room is average size. I like reading the hotel book to tell me a little about the place. Our view is a wall, but I wasn't looking out our window anyhow since there was so much to do. We went to the lobby and ordered a coffee and a beer. The shortbread cookies that came with my coffee were so nice... prime example of a good cookie. My husband was offered a taste of beer just to make sure he really wanted it. They had San Miguel on tap, which seemed weird to me. After our friends were all settled, we went out for dinner. When we came back, we sat around using the free wifi and then went to bed. In the morning, we were the last ones to breakfast. FULL SCOTTISH PLEASE! There was an assortment of cereal and canned fruit at the door, along with pots of coffee. Yummy yummy. Breakfast was great and didn't taste like free at all. You know how sometimes places include breakfast and they are gross... not here. I would stay here again. The location is beautiful with quick access to the river. We were within walking distance of a restaurant and a Tesco... it was great.
