Went for dinner. We ordered a steak medium rare and it arrived cremated. Replacement was cooked properly but still tasted poor, and the peppercorn sauce barely tasted of anything at all. I came here for a wee weekend away for my birthday. The good lady booked it so what it cost I dunno. Arrived at around 6 on Friday night, the drive up went ok although I'm sure the satnav screwed us as per usual. Annoyingly the onsite parking at the hotel was full, both front and back, after circling the place like parking space eating vultures we gave up and parked at a free car park along the road behind the Co-op. It didn't look all that secure but we had no problems, other than a wee walk to the hotel, which probably was similar in length to the walk to the back car park. The hotel is quite big and has lots of rooms on different levels even on the same floor. Potential difficulty for older people with heavy bags I suppose. The hotel was nice, not dated, but not new, the room was nice and clean if a little small, though it did have a fairly large T.V. The spa part lied and said it had a steam room, which it didn't but it did have a sauna. Some of the signs were misleading, like the one to the pool which we couldn't actually access, instead you had to go through the bar and then the ballroom. We breakfasted here twice and had dinner once. The food was good but the service was a little slow on two out the three occasions. All this moaning, then why a 4 star review I hear you ask? Simple, the staff, they were absolutely great really accommodating, helpful, friendly and cheerful, they really helped to make this a good experience. We also booked hot stone massages at late notice which and they were as accommodating as they could be in this respect. If I was up this way I would be happy to come here again, however, had the staff not been so great then it was probably more of a 3 star kinda place. read more

When we pulled into Blairgowrie at noon, we were famished after travelling down the winding road from the fabulous Inver Hotel, near pretty Braemar. The Angus hotel carpark was full -a good sign at lunchtime....so we ventured in after perusing the menu posted outside. We were met by the hotel manager, (who had just kissed a baby), he then smiled at me & with a twinkle in his eye, announced that he usually didn't give all clients that same treatment -utterly charming! :) He then noticed we were carrying our iPads & immediately gave us the wifi access password. We sat down in the very well appointed & classy bar: large tables, comfy seating. There was lots of room, but many locals obviously come here for a nice lunch or spot of tea. (it was fun to eavesdrop on the lovely accents!) We had the soup of the day (a big bowl of yummy scotch broth, chock full of veggies & barley) & a panini for £6.95. The portions were extremely generous & the panini came with a small bit of coleslaw salad on the side. We rounded everything out with some herbal tea & shortbread.... All in all excellent value for the money & very delicious! Service was fantastic -fast & attentive! The atmosphere was very relaxed & comfortable. We heartily recommend the Angus Hotel Restaurant/Bar for a nourishing, delicious meal, when traveling on the way to the CairnGorums! Enjoy! :) read more

Our room was small though adequate and clean but unfortunately some of the fittings need attention; the door knob & lock was so loose that we found it difficult to lock the door from the outside and the towel rail in the bathroom actually fell apart. We were relieved when the racket from the disco in the pub opposite ceased soon after midnight leaving us with the lullaby of drunks shouting and fighting in the street as they made their way home; but that's not something the hotel has any control over. Some of the corridor carpets are threadbare to the point of being dangerous. On the positive side, the front desk staff were polite and friendly, but the evening bar-staff looked as though they wished their shift would end as soon as possible. The hotel has plenty of meeting and (evening) dining space for our gathering of about 60 and could take more. The food was palatable but more mass produced than haute cuisine. Breakfast was chaotic; it seemed that so many customers arriving together came as a surprise. Fruit juice and milk were finished when we turned up and took a while to replace, the cooked food was very greasy and my egg was cold when it arrived. It's probably ok for the 'old folks' on budget coach tours and shouldn't pretend to be anything else without a major refurbishment. Value for money? No, absolutely not; very overpriced for what we got. read more

We went here for lunch. The food was truly awful. The nachos was just a bag of tortilla chips pured into a bowl, with a block of cheese barely melted onto the top via a microwave - in fact most of the cheese was still in the shape of a block! read more
