Its March 2014 and I have just spent my first caravan weekend of 2014 in Binion Bay Caravan Park,…read moreClonmany, Co Donegal. It was a wet, damp, and windy weekend and there were very few people on the site. It was late on Friday evening when we arrived and were welcomed by the owner who kindly placed us just beside all the site facilities. Our purpose in going to Donegal was to attend a singing festival weekend in nearby Ballyliffin. On Sat morning, the site displayed its beautiful stunning surroundings. If you like to walk, cycle, climb hills, view beaches, then this is a site you cannot miss. The friendly owner will give a total overview of the area, detailing walks, festivals, history, restaurants and anything else you will want to know. He sat with us for half an hour just to impart tourist information that he thought we might benefit from. The site facilities were very clean and tidy with free electric showers, soap and hand wash in the bathrooms. The owner had also left a supply of books available for anyone to read during their stay. Nice thought. But he really came into his own when it was time for us to go home and we found that our car electrics had a fault and would not work our caravan lights, indicators etc. When he saw us with trouble, he took his own jeep to test our caravan lights and identified that our car was the difficulty. As it was Sunday, it was not possible to repair and we had to return home for work the next day. The owner took our caravan on his jeep, parked it at his own house and we went home, repaired our car and collected the caravan some days later. All our worries were eradicated by the owners kindness. When I collected my caravan, i tried to financially reward his for his kindness but he totally refused to accept anything and said, "maybe you will come back again sometime". I sure will. I cant say enough about my stay there. These are the ones that you will remember. Keep it up Binion Bay, a gem of a weekend probably made better by kindness of the site owner.

They are all individually noted as areas of both natural beauty and of scientific interest. In the Glenariff area alone you can encounter valleys, sandy beaches, cliffs, boglands, wooded glens, forests, waterfalls and a picturesque village. You can take some great walks through the forest, past the rivers and flowing waterfalls. Look out for the hugely impressive 'Mare's Tail' waterfall which drops hundreds of feet. It's beside the main road near Kilmore. If you fancy a forest walk somewhere a little different then head here to the forest park. You won't regret it. Situated at the park is the absolutely beautiful 'Waterfall Walkway' which is about 3 miles long and is a great spot which features panoramic landscapes and peaceful riverside walks. The attraction also includes disabled access, a visitor centre, an exhibition area, interactive display, shop, caravan/camping site (open Easter - October) and a seasonal restaurant which complements this "gateway to the Glens".

This is a place where you can genuinely spend the whole day without a single whine of 'I'm boooorrred'. There are just loads of really good fun things to do here, nothing lame or boring and definitely something for everyone from babies up to early teens. You pay a fee of around £5 to park your car for the day and get access to the country park and you could in theory end your spending for the day there. You will have access to acres of woodland, beautiful gardens which the adults will appreciate and the kids will enjoy trampling through. There is a also a huge maze which the whole family will love and which you can oversee from a massive big wooden decking area. Also included is a fantastic park with a huge boat in the middle which can be explored and climbed on. All of that will pass a full morning or afternoon, but part with a bit more cash and you can do so much more. About 5 minutes walk away is where all the action is - there are trampolines, mini golf, bouncy castles, a bungee jump, remote control lorries and a mini railway, all of which are excellent fun. Now, each activity costs about £1.25, so you can see how you budget will soon spiral. It might be a good idea to tell the kids in advance that they can choose 2 or 3 activities and that's it. It works for me. Kind of. There are picnic tables with spots for portable BBQs and a proper BBQ area which you can pre book (and pay for) for large groups. There aren't that many picnic tables so get in early and stake your claim. Cut down on costs by bringing your own picnic, but there is a tea room and a little shop selling drinks, ice creams etc, so all options are covered. All in all, it's a fantastic place for a day out. I dare you to go and not have a good time!
