It was a rocky start: we walked into The Beefclub restaurant, whereupon we were told to go out again to the unmarked door next to it. My friend didn't notice the doorman and to figure out where to go, tried to peek inside. The doorman took it as a personal affront and kept us there for almost five minutes, lecturing my friend about this and the fact he was wearing shorts, before finally letting us in, pointing at us girls and saying "they're why you're getting in". In stark contrast, everyone else downstairs made us feel welcome. All the servers and barmen said hello as we walked in, and we immediately got waters and thorough explanations of the menus (one regular, one seasonal). They were even nice enough to let me into the back room to look at and sample their different scotches (they're heavy on the Japanese and Islay). I'm picky when it comes to whiskey cocktails, but the bartender suggested the Morning Glory Scotch Fizz, one of the best drinks I've ever had. It was perfectly refreshing for the hot summer day, with a subtle kick from the whiskey and absinthe. To top it off, there was a fantastic whipped egg white foam that none of us could figure out, but all appreciated the skill it must have taken. The prices are about the same as all the other craft cocktail bars in Paris, 13 to 15 euros. I absolutely adore this place. Although difficult to find, especially after playful prodding from the bouncer who plays along with his role, asking what on earth you're doing there and why you're trying to get past him (little hint - smile politely and laugh along! It's only a joke) it is certainly worth the hassle. The ambiance is always fantastic and enough to ensure a memorable evening, the staff are pleasant and playful and the cocktails never disappoint. Although you might not be sure what you're drinking, it certainly makes a nice change from the normal cocktail selection that you would find elsewhere.. it makes for a more interactive experience with whoever is joining you, you can't resist trying each others drinks and trying to guess the flavours! A wonderful option if you are looking for something a bit different, go earlier in the evening if you are looking to have a nice chat over a drink, after about 11 the louder music creates more of a party atmosphere but makes it a little more difficult to have a conversation! read more

So it is important to note that this yelp page is for both the bar and the restaurant and yes both get five stars. It would be better if they had separate yelp pages because I don't consider them as one. Review one: the bar aka le ballroom Besides that fact that you feel like the coolest person ever because of how small and speakeasy and cool the vibe is, the ballroom has great quality drinks. The bartenders love what they do and are good at it. The place has great decor and tasty music. Small enough to feel intimate but enough space to breath. Sometimes their drinks are a bit too sophisticated for me, but overall they come out unique and delicious. Review two: The Beefclub Restaurant THE BURGER is so good. Definitely one of the best in Paris. I love it and the bread and the sides. If i remember correctly they have a mac and cheese. Don't event think twice, just order it and indulge. The bone marrow was also very tasty, but that is more of a particular taste so don't order it unless you like it. OVERALL both places are worth going too. I am going to post both the reviews of the speakeasy and the restaurant here. Restaurant review below. We came on a Tuesday evening. SPEAKEASY THE BALLROOM: We came down the stairs from the side door for cocktail week. We went to the bar because there were no seats. My boyfriend had to stand. We ordered both the gin cocktails, 14€ each. The carrot one was meh. The one with pepper was good but nothing to write home about. The problem I had here was the service. I had to ask to place my order. When a seat opened up, we moved but the guy who was a waiter but not a bartender came over and was extremely rude to tell us he guests had just gone out for a smoke. He could have told us in a different way? There were other tables open anyway. I went up to the bar to pay and told the bartender the service was the worst I've experienced in Paris and he apologized. But honestly the guy who came to tell us to move was the worst treatment I've received. Dude, I paid for my drinks. Does customer service not belong in the job title? This places wasn't even cool. I felt extremely weird faux New York vibes. When did speak essays get so lame? RESTAURANT THE BEEFCLUB: We started our night at the speakeasy that is conjoined with the place and had bad to awful service. The restaurant is worse. We came around 10:30 pm and the only kind person in the whole staff, the bus boy, told us we would be addressed shortly but recommended reservations in the future or to tell the bartenders at the speakeasy for a table. We weren't even offered a table because the people down there are actually the some of the rudest people in Paris. We were told we would have a table in five min after waiting ten minutes to be addressed. They have maybe three waiters who spend a good thirty minutes to even more arrogant people the menu. I actually heard, "miso is a wonderful taste from Asia," as one of the female waiters explained how their tartare was prepared. Thoroughness makes sense but arrogance and pretentiousness does not. We then waited fifteen minutes outside not five for a table. If I wasn't so hungry and tired, I would have gone elsewhere. My boyfriend went and asked to be seated and we were given the table corner that had been empty the whole time. What the hell? We ordered the tartare and a filet with Mac n cheese and duck fat fries as sides. They were sold out of the filet so she offered an alternative. I like my meat well done with no signs of blood. My French boyfriend made it really clear. She said this alternative was great for well done lovers. The meat options had a sauce of choice. We both opted for the shallot sauce. It was good but nothing special. My steak came out thick and bloody as hell. I cut it in half and asked her to recook it. She brought it back still bloody and said it was the best she could do. Not cool. They could have at the very least butterflied it. The steak was thicker than my fist. What do you mean well done people like it? We had to ask for bread and water. They don't serve tap. Our Mac n cheese was amazing. Fries were nothing special. You can't taste the duck fat and for 5€, I want fat. We ordered the profiterole for 12€ and it was the best damn thing. It was a huge cream puff with dark chocolate ice cream. The cream was amazing. The bus boy drizzled warm chocolate sauce everywhere. It's HUGE too!! Amazing. Sadly the service here is awful and I'll never be back. Our whole meal came out to 74€. She didn't have change for a 100€ bill. Are you seriously telling me you don't have 26€? Thursday night, my friends fancy a drink so what best than a cocktail. I choose this place first because of the location . Walking distance from chatelet so it is an easy access for everyone. We take those dark stairs next to the restaurant. My friends wondered where I am taking them while going down the stairs and then tada! Nicely welcomed by the barmans, the bar is not busy so we can seat anywhere we like. We get the menu and here come one of the nice and funny barman who explained to us every cocktail we choose to make sure we will do the right choice! The cocktails comes and the explanation was perfect as everyone was more than happy with the cocktails. Honestly they were excellent!!! Price 13-14 euros each, price of a cocktail nowadays so can't say it's too expensive. We also ordered some food : tuna tartare and iberico ham. All these came with bread. That was some really tiny portion for the price (13 euros) but it was tasty and the waiter told us it would be small so we could not be annoyed. In conclusion, good ambiance, good atmosphere, excellent cocktails and good food! So my after work drink was a success in this cocktail bar! read more

Amazing place. I'm sure all the comments will well describe the place so I'll just add an important detail. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A GOOD SERVICE IN A BAR IN PARIS ! I went with my girlfriend and the bar was really crowded. Lots of people were leaning against the counter, I wondered how we would manage to order a drink. But surprise: a very nice waitress came to us and took the order (I've never seen it in Paris when a bar is packed like that). It doesn't stop here: after taking the order, she did everything she could to arrange a spot where we could sit. They call this place a speakeasy for a reason. If you don't know about it, it's pretty hard to find. Especially if you're not a local. So how did I find out you ask? I was recommended by someone at another wine bar. He gave me step by step directions which lead me to a non descript black door with a spiral staircase lined with tea lights that lead you downstairs. The first time I came here, I was with my colleague quite early. About 9pm and we were able to get seats at the bar. The bartenders were very friendly and spoke English fluently. Apparently the place gets very busy after 11. The cocktails were strong and mixed with care. They like to experiment if it's not too busy too. If you want wine, you can take a flight of stairs right up to the restaurant upstairs and order a glass there. The second time we came, there was a short lineup at the door and the bouncers were funny and in a happy mood. Not like the serious monotonous bouncers in North America. The place was packed with great music and fashionable locals. We realized that the room extends around the corner to 2 more bars. Come early if you want a quite evening of cocktails crafted with perfection and conversation, come late if you want to experience a lively underground scene. as per recommendation of my friend, I have discovered this little gem. IT's in the basement, there is a way to get there through stairs that lead to the bathroom, but mostly they show you the way from the door outside that's completely unmarked. It's fabulous! bartenders speak fluent english, the drinks are superb, and so is the crowd/atmosphere, the music. There are couches, space at both bars, it's dimly lit and beautiful. a real speakeasy, tough to find unless you know about it... one of my favorites in Paris looks like :) read more

What a place! Speakeasy bar that definitely doesn't disappoint!!! Entrance is a discreet set of black doors with a doorman. Doorman proceeded to question us about exactly what we were looking for. After determining that we were in fact at the right place he proceeded to let us in. We walked down several flights of stairs in an industrial like vestibule until we walked into a hip secluded music blaring room of fun! We went here on a Thursday night, said Bon Soir to the doorman and asked if it was Ballroom, he was quite intense and asked us a few questions. Nonetheless, we got in, only to be greeted by bartenders who were more interested in drinking shots than serving the clients! I tried to order 2 beers, and was told they don't sell beer (which they include on their menu), so ordered 2 Daiquiris. Daiquiri was average, service was poor. Will not return or recommend. read more
