All the security guards and office staff are so focused on getting kids in trouble, and they never bother to help you even if you ask for help. The staff makes the school dreadful, and so many kids don't go to school just cause of the way they treat them. Wouldn't recommend.

0 fucking stars, this school is the biggest piece of shit that i have ever seen in my lifetime,…read morebiggest waste of space to ever be put on this floating rock, the security staff are SO SO SO narcissistic and genuinely dumb in every way possible, currently at the time of this review there is ONE men's bathroom open, with over 1000 students, that is ridiculous, the security is so rude and they assume everything out of everyone, and this school uses all of their resources to catch kids vaping/smoking in the bathrooms, instead of trying to help kids that need help, this school is genuinely the worst school that i have EVER attended or seen anywhere, some of the teachers are nice and understanding but the majority of them will not let you use the bathroom, or will not let you use your phone for an emergency, all of the staff at this school is corrupt with power and needs to be dealt with, fix your fucking bathrooms er..

I went to high school here. Class of 2007. I was a 3.6 GPA student here that found some classes easy and some hard. The block schedule with long classes and A and B days did help set me up for college well. The religious aspect was a big part of school but also not overbearing in my opinion. As someone who is mildly religious, I feel I was well educated on religion without having it completely pushed down my throat. The religious retreats were enjoyable regardless of an individual's beliefs. The campus grounds are pretty, and have improved immensely since I went there. The new student center is beautiful and they no longer have the ugly portables I had to go to class in. I do feel they played favorites and I was not one of those favorites, and that determines a lot about kids futures and college applications. For example, the musical cast was ALWAYS the same people. Mr. Wilkinson (musical and play) was the biggest culprit of favoritism. I know I wasn't the best singer in the world but I also was decently good and he really killed my confidence in something I had been passionate about up until high school. He never even gave feedback to anyone to improve. He could have switched up the choruses in his musicals instead of THE SAME PEOPLE EVERY SEASON. The journalism staff was also predictable based on staff family members and their friends. From what I heard about the sports teams, it was usually the same. Basically any extracurricular was made by politics and not always by hard work or talent. Some staff that deserve shout outs: Mr. Ellis is a great coach, teacher, and positive ray of energy. Mr. Stokely is no longer there but always did a wonderful job of making every single student feel heard and included. I was terrible at math, but Mr. Stokely never made me feel bad about it. Ms. Hanigan was a wonderful, positive, and supportive teacher. And Father Jerry was a terrific counselor that always helped guide me in the right direction whether academic or personal. Also, the dress code here got a little insane when I went here so I hope they've relaxed and stopped policing women's bodies so much. (No one should be appalled by the clavicle and it's terrible to teach women that their body is inherently sexual). I'd probably send my kid here. I imagine some of my complaints here (politics) would be similar elsewhere and I do feel I got a good education. Hopefully things have changed on my concerns since I went there and if not hopefully this brings valuable feedback to light.

So, I am a student in the Bethel School District, I have been since my family moved to the Spanaway…read morearea when I was only 7. I finished 1st grade here and the rest of the grade levels so far except 12th grade, and to be honest, I would have to say; overall the Bethel School District is a very bad one, often times the schools don't get ran well and there's also the issue of teachers, security people, assistant principals, principals, etc. Often times nothing good comes out of it, or they just put too much pressure on students, sometimes without even being kind about it. I have an IEP and have been in resource classes since elementary, and I often have gotten treated badly by teachers, other staff, and students alike. In elementary, it was sometimes okay with teachers but they didnt exactly say things as well as they should have, and students at school used to be extremely mean to me in school around that time and often times they still are. In elementary, they were rude to me and they said things like that I was gross, weird, etc. I often was not treated well, by the older kids and not by the younger kids. After 6th grade, it seemed ok at first but it really wasn't. I got so much shit from people about how I was friends with someone who was a guy who hung out with me a lot and ended up developing a crush on me, and people often made fun of me for it and teased me, also some people just were rude to me for no reason, the uniform was shitty (I went to cedarcrest for junior high- 7th-9th grade), i often was never noticed by some people but teachers and other adults often just did not understand me, were rude to me or went about things the wrong way. 10th-12th grade I have been at SLHS, and I hate it. The school is really not very good overall, if you count how it is ran, many of the staff, students, how courses are ran, the special ed department, funding, etc........ also there is the issue of transportation, and how that is the school I have to go to by rules since that's how it is with the boundaries and that angers me so much. I have been miserable at SLHS the whole time I have been there all or most of the time. I just can't get any respect and trust there and I just can't get a break!! If I am not careful, I could get sent to the kind of special education or education classes for people with behavior issues, and yet they don't really look into or care about WHY they have behavior issues and talk to the kids about it. Ms. Shenk is one of the staff there and she can be extremely hard to relate to and not only that she can be so very strict and hard on people even when you didn't do much of anything wrong. No wonder I have always hated school, I swear, it is just rediculous how everything (or almost everything) has went wrong, being in this school district as a student. And at my high school, SLHS, the staff often act like the school is so great but it is REALLY not. All or most of it is because of some good test score improvements, so really it might seem like it makes it a good school and it is a good achievement but it does not make it a good school. A good school helps people out, when they can, and does not just use tough love or rudeness on people when they are having problems or acting out or whatever it may be. And it definitely does not act like the student is the only one in the wrong. I am currently trying to get transferred into Bethel, and it is extremely hard... and it is so lame, it is barely even a mile farther away from my neighborhood/house than SLHS is and SLHS is 2.2 miles away, and really it shouldn't be so difficult for something so important. Education is a right, not a privelidge and it should provide options and choices. What happened to failure is not an option? Anyway, I will always be frustrated about it and remember the bad, but seriously, if the staff and other school or school district officials would just grow up and be more kind and understanding... it could help so much.
