We were super excited and can't wait to speak to the front desk regarding activities and information about the school. As we entered into the administration building, right away we were not greeted with a welcoming feeling, the gal ( I believe her name was Michelle) did not seem too pleased nor was she helpful. My child and I were shocked at her behavior and was left to wander the school on our own. I spoke to the other parent that day (neighbors) and their child are also new to the school agreed they had the same experience and was not please as they were also wandering the school with no type of details. I would appreciate if the front desk would start greeting other students with some type of excitement, especially when they are new to school and it'll definitely make students feel comfortable and cared also please provide students/parents the information they need. Thank you.

They don't plan very well when they know a math teacher will be in maternity leave amd have gotten subs that can't answer geometry questions. Several kids were failing that year. They also have had a new Spanish teacher the last five years, one of which was teaching a different dialect from what most HS in this area teach amd he was difficult to understand, even as someone who is fluent in Spanish. Another time was super unorganized and my child didn't learn much and another of which my child had to help her with certain words in Spanish I! They also don't offer a lot of the classes other private schools are able to at least compete with public schools. Also admin doesn't like to deal with problems and like to turn their back on them or ignore them as though they don't exist. K-6 was good but I would highly recommend going somewhere else 7-12th. If you do put your kid here for secondary be prepared for the fact that there are still the same problems that other schools have, kids doing drugs and alcohol, fighting, name calling, bullying, threats, sexting, drama, and kids engaging in sexual activity. Oh and none of their sports teams are very good and there's no cuts so everyone gets to play so it's not competitive at all.

All the security guards and office staff are so focused on getting kids in trouble, and they never bother to help you even if you ask for help. The staff makes the school dreadful, and so many kids don't go to school just cause of the way they treat them. Wouldn't recommend.

I never imagined my son's first experience in public school would be like this. As our first child…read moreto attend public school, I was very nervous and wanted to make sure we chose the right place. After asking around, we were told Ballou Junior High was one of the best. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience. My son is new to this environment and is still figuring things out, but instead of receiving help and support, he has been treated poorly--not by students, but by a staff member at the front desk: Rona Kelderhouse. According to my son, she has been rude, dismissive, and unhelpful every time he's asked for assistance. He tried asking for help with his class schedule and needed guidance, but she gave him incorrect information and acted as if helping him was a burden. It's only the second week of school, and he's already coming home upset and frustrated--not because of classmates, but because of how he's being treated by front office staff. That's unacceptable. Thankfully, Lisa Kusche stepped in and helped us directly when I visited the school. She confirmed the staff member's name and supported my decision to speak up. Students should feel safe and supported--not discouraged--when they go to school. It's not just the teachers and students who shape a school environment; front desk staff represent the first point of contact and set the tone. I hope the administration takes this seriously. Thank you.

Well... we moved to our current house because we wanted our kids to grow up in Puyallup Schools…read more Our oldest son and daughter went to Brouillet Elementary. Our experience started off strong as we had some really good teachers but after a new principle took over many of them jumped ship. After a very disappointing and ridiculous approach to the pandemic, we left for private school. We felt that after nearly suffocating our kids for year and a half, we were DONE. Enduring the combination of far left progressive politics infused in the classroom and oblivious approach to child development, it was apparent that, to the administration, our kids were seen as $ signs and political statements, not as people. As far as teachers, there are some VERY good people who work in this district. We have many friends who teach in district and are AMAZING in spite of their environment and the BS they put up with. Now, I would give the teachers overall a 3 star because our experience was so bipolar. One year our son had a really great teacher, who challenged him, held him accountable and pushed him to grow. The next his teacher stopped showing up after the first week. Literally no showed, leaving the whole class in disarray. Ultimately, we felt that the "luck of the draw" approach was absurd, and we subsequently left. Private school is a major sacrifice but far better, very enriching with HIGH expectations for personal responsibility. We will never go back to Puyallup Schools.

I was hoping this could have been a bus for a sports team needing to go someplace early, but instead we are given this.
