I have been to this store many times, but today I had a horrible experience. I went inside with my three year old son, in his stroller, and was looking for decorations for an upcoming birthday event I am hosting. I have a cold and wearing a tight N95 mask on and started to cough in the store (far away not next to anyone meanwhile there was only one other customer there) and the cashier starts running around the store spraying lysol all around. I noticed a spray bottle over my head through a shelf and he just kept going round and round spraying every inch of the store. This is incredibly rude and putting toxins in the air for others to breathe in including my son. As he's spraying he's telling me he's doing so to protect his employees, but my mask is protecting them more than toxins. He could've politely asked me to leave if he felt so uncomfortable, but he just kept going on and on telling me to leave while spraying the air and then ended it with I never said you had to leave. Your disgusting action was enough and you're a grown man who did not have a problem saying many things to me, you could've just came to me and spoke nicely. Another customer was waiting to purchase something and she decided to leave after the behavior she witnessed. He is clearly uneducated on how masks work and was completely rude spraying it over my head and I would never reccomend this shop again. I have been there before, but they have lost a customer. If you need items you can find the same items with affordable pricing at other places too. When I entered the shop he was also rude to a grandfather with his grandson. The grandson was touching a balloon & he told the little boy if he pops it his grandfather has to buy the entire bunch of balloons attached to it. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Balloon Saloon after the way I was treated. I stopped in while I was in Tribeca to arrange a special balloon delivery for a friend celebrating an important milestone. I had already called ahead and had a pleasant conversation confirming that they deliver to the Upper East Side, but because my request was unique, I wanted to discuss it in person. The young woman who initially helped me was very nice, but another woman stepped in and was incredibly rude and dismissive. She never greeted me or made eye contact, seemed annoyed that she had to help me, and made me feel like I was inconveniencing her simply by being a customer. She also abruptly told me they don't deliver to the Upper East Side, despite the store confirming to me by phone that they do. Ultimately, I walked out without purchasing anything because of her attitude. Customer service matters. I don't expect anyone to bend over backward for me, but I do expect basic courtesy, accurate information, and to not be treated like my business is a burden. I was also the only Black customer in the store at the time. I cannot say race played a role in how I was treated, but the experience was uncomfortable enough that the thought crossed my mind. This is a balloon store, a business centered around celebrations and happy moments, yet I left feeling completely unwelcome. I regularly find gifts for people at work and home, all ages and types of recipients always smile when they get retro games, gifts and candy from my childhood. Geez don't know if this place was sold to a new owner or if the same ppl I've been following on Instagram (for a VERY long time) just lost their passion. Helium inflated foil balloons will last you about 3-4 days. Helium inflated latex balloons will last you about 12-15 hours. However, with treatment at $0.50 each, this can be brought up to about 2-3 days. This is what I've been told by the staff at the Balloon Saloon. The Balloon Saloon has been in business for at least 40 years and the staff here are pretty helpful and knowledgeable. This place has a wide selection of party supplies and vintage toys. Compared to Party City, the supplies here are more expensive, but regardless, it does have more unique selections. I haven't used their delivery or pickup service so this review is solely for the in-store experience. read more

Having opened its doors thirty years ago, Balloon Saloon has built a formidable client base -- an enviable list of New York businesses, including some Fortune 100s--American Express, AT&T and Macy*s to name a few. Lehman was a client too and I am sure they had many a cause to celebrate, before their balloon diffused. Balloon Saloon has it all and does it all. From individual balloons to bouquets to bulk orders. Latex, mylar, you name it. They also have some delightful toys, books and decorations. They advice, customize and even deliver. J.Lo's anti-balloon policy notwithstanding (she refused a gift from Balloon Saloon), this is a Tribeca business that has helped bring joy to millions of New Yorkers over the years. Balloons are like flowers; expensive, decorative and very temporary. The staff here are wonderful and extremely helpful - basically the total opposite of the folks at Party City. They're open at 9am on Sundays and answer the phone when you call. I walked in to pick up helium tanks and they went and got them for me while I paid. While I didn't peruse much, it seemed like they had a ton of party favors, decorations and gifts to suit any fun-time needs you may have. It's not wal-mart - and you won't find corporate chain prices but I think the value of real selection and service far outweighs the couple bucks more you'll spend at Balloon Saloon. read more

Loved, loved, loved the Balloons, BUT service was horrible. The lady on the phone gave me such a hard time about how I wanted my balloons delivered by 5pm. My dinner didn't start until 9pm, but I needed the balloons set up by 5:30pm b/c the restaurant starts serving other customers at 5:30pm. She argued back and forth with me on the phone about the delivery time, but then finally agreed to a 3:30-5pm delivery window. The balloons were not delivered until 5:40pm! I had my friends waiting at the restaurant at 5pm (to set the balloons up), but they couldn't set them up until 5:40pm & this delayed the owner from being able to attend to other customers. This is not acceptable, especially since there are TONS of other balloon places that we could order from. Had the balloons and customer service been better, I'd leave a 5 star review. I'm not one to leave bad reviews, but I'd feel bad if this type of service is given to another person on their big day. I wanted to give them 5 stars because the balloons were gorgeous and they basically MADE the dinner party decor feel like a party. However, the personnel inside the store were a little standoffish. I felt like I was bothering them while asking questions about the balloons and ordering them. I probably would have spent more money there if I felt like my business was being appreciated. Nonetheless, the balloons were great and prettier than I expected they would be and they were delivered on time with absolutely no issues. Balloon Saloon claims to be "the most fun store in New York City." Say the name out loud. Now, say it again. Aren't you having fun already? As much as you can without alcohol? I thought so. As a sucker by profession (I'm a teacher...haha, just kidding), this place is perfect for someone like me who likes to go a little over the top to make an occasion special. Friday we're having an in-school birthday party and I really got a bit carried away with my purchases for this soiree. I'm especially excited because I found TWISTER (there were many other "party board games" for sale) and Pin the Tail on the Donkey! These will definitely come in handy (get it - hands, Twister..dum dum ching) for intimate birthday gatherings and basically, life in general. I also picked up a few pointed party hats with tissue paper fringe, and a small red egg of silly putty. Luckily, I didn't keep walking around the store, because that stuff alone, with a plastic yellow tablecloth, came to $60. I know, ridiculous. I do have to say, however, that this place has A LOT of really fun, cool stuff that you will want to buy. There are air fresheners emblazoned with off-color sayings, big sparkly pins that say "Kiss Me, It's my birthday," Pop Rocks are available and you can also get funky shaped ice cube trays to rev up your cocktails. Party food and cocktail recipe books have their own display section, and though I was tempted, I turned away. I also spied a fake *but real looking* toy sushi kit. It made me long for the plastic yellow kitchen of my childhood, where I spent countless hours playing house and "making" breakfast with my rubber spilled milk and fried egg. So, yeah, the store is nostalgic and there is something here for everyone. If you have kids, are having a theme party or need a fun gag gift, this is the place to go. I was really excited to stumble into this place, and I didn't even explore the actual BALLOONS!! The staff was super friendly and when I was leaving, I thought she was slipping me a $20 (I thought she was admitting her mistake over the prices) but no, it was a folded FAKE green $20. This place is really really expensive. The customer service is lackluster at best, that is very true. As a local resident with procrastination tendencies, I find myself at the mercy of Balloon Saloon time after time again. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. However, If you are desperate for balloons and need delivery, and are willing to shell out an arm and a leg for the order - they are reliable. It's borderline extortion, but it is reliable. Most recently my family bought me balloons for my baby shower in April. It is now JUNE, and these balloons are still floating. Honestly, I really just wanted to share that. This is not a Yelp about the store as so much as it is a Yelp about these balloons. Just shy of 2 months and although they look hurt today - they were still afloat to welcome my baby home.
