This food cart near University Ave and Elm St features Balkan food! I was told it is the only venue serving Balkan food within Metro Toronto. The highlight is the Chevapi, which is a mixed veal, beef, and lamb Balkan-style sausage.
Sandra is the owner and operator.
I made a trip there on 2025-05-09 to order the Chevapi (5 for $14 or 10 for $19). It comes with Labinia (a flatbread), chopped onions, ajvar (red pepper spread) and kajmak (a cream cheese but with less fat content). Unfortunately, on that day, there were many large groups who went there to order Chevapi! So by the time I went there at 15:30, it was sold out!
I found out that you can text 416-823-8573 to place your order 20 mins before pickup. I have to do that next time!
I decided to get the Balkan Burger ($14), which is Chevapi in a patty form, but has the same ingredients as the Chevapi including the flatbread, chopped onions, and kajmak, but has in addition, pickle slices and the use of lamb fat to grill.
Interestingly, all prices include tax.
The burger was so large! It is 220g which is almost half a pound! It was quite good! My wife, son, and I enjoyed it tremendously.
The patty is a natural product with no preservatives, hormones, artificial flavours and colour. There is 71 g of protein per serving. It is 100% Canadian-made with Canadian beef, raised without antibiotics or hormones. The patty is authentic Sarajevo, and grilled.
The food cart has been there since 1997! But back then, the government would only allow the sale of hotdogs. Then around 2021, she started selling western food such as steaks. Around late 2023, she decided to offer Balkan food, and it has been very successful since then!
The Chevapi is from a store called Mrakovic. However, she gets other meats from Royal Meat, which is run by a famous butcher from Croatia. Sandra happens to also come from Croatia so she has known this butcher for many years, back in Coatia.
I happened to be at her food cart on her birthday. Happy Birthday!
Another trivia about Sandra is that she is also a painter. She has sold several of her paintings. She proudly displays one of her paintings beside her food cart.
There is no free WiFi. The food cart is wheelchair accessible. There are no customer washrooms. There is paid neighbourhood street parking.
