We stopped into this brewery to check out some local craft beer and really enjoyed our visit. The place has a unique, quirky vibe that gives it a lot of character, and it's the kind of spot that's fun to explore while you're sipping a beer. I remember thinking the menu looked pretty awesome, although I somehow managed to accidentally delete my photo of it! The staff was friendly and welcoming, and as a dog lover, I have to mention that the pup hanging out inside was absolutely adorable. One thing I thought was especially cool was that they could add different flavors to some of the beers, which made for a fun and customizable experience. It's also within walking distance of the cruise port, making it an easy stop for cruise passengers looking to support a local business. Hiding in the back of Local Grounds coffee is a tiny brewery behind double swinging doors. The bartender was very friendly and helped us pick out beer from their tap list. I settled on the Dimension B and my partner got the bananaweissen with fresh banana puree. Both beers were good, but rather pricy compared to other drinks in town. This brewing location shares a space with a coffee stop, but you'll need to enter the brewing side through a fun swinging wooden door. They have a few seats and a wraparound bar area that you'll order at. Bar tender was quick and friendly. The menu was easy to read, and they had several offerings to choose from. The atmosphere was a touch odd in that it shares the space with another business, but they separate it well and have each decorated very differently once you're inside! Baleen Brewing was a fantastic stop in our time at Ketchikan! Sharing a building with the coffee shop, Baleen is serving up several beer standards along with some twists. The wonderfully friendly and informative Jon invited us to try the Abbey style smoked with cottonwood, as well as the Alt Bier frothed up with a heated metal stick. I've never had either of these at a brewery before! The Flanders ale was also delicious. Definitely stop in for a nice beer after a rainy walk here! Make sure to chat with Jon. read more

Sub-leased location inside a coffee shop? Interesting! Baleen is the most "Saloon" as you can get in the modern day. $10 for a 12 ounce pour is pretty pricy for a black and tan. Luckily, the beer was pretty delicious. You can't take your beer out of the area around the bar. Can't take it to the coffee shop, and can't take it into the virtual golf area. Overall, I'm glad I got to try Ketchikan's brewery, but it didn't blow my socks off. Its aight, especially for that pricing. read more

I'm currently kicked back on a comfy couch, playing with their adorable Pomeranian named Luna. I'm enjoying trying variance of beer flavor additives combined with their flagship stout. Very cool place. Wish I could hang out here and do my homework or something, if I was still a school person. Just a warning for those of you on cruises, making a stop at Ketchikan. At Baleen Brewery there is a bipolar, mentally ill woman who claims she is the building manager. Should anyone use the upstairs bathroom, she will pound on the door, screaming like a banshee and embarrass you in a public display that can only be described as UNHINGED. She did it to me and she did it to a woman of color while I was at Baleen Brewery with friends. There were absolutely no signs of any kind saying the bathroom was not to be used. Ketchikan was one of the stops on our cruise and her truly mentally ill display ruined that cruise stop for our group. Everyone including all the customers in Baleen Brewery were shocked at her volatile displays. The woman is obviously not well. But if she truly IS the building manager of Baleen Brewery, she needs to seek professional help. Until the situation is taken care of, I suggest avoiding Baleen Brewery completely. This woman is obviously ill and likes to put on quite a show at customers expense! While Baleen brewery itself was lovely, this experience was definitely NOT! read more

Full disclosure: my best friend and I are beer snobs. Only really hoppy beers will do, so that's what we had, and that's what I can attest to. 1). The IPA was as good as any. Period. It has the perfect balance between being too hoppy and being like a session. 2) the APA was darn near as good as the IPA (my buddy liked it BETTER). It's hoppy without having that bitter 'bite' that some people don't like in IPA's. I like em both just about equally! I wish we had more time to sample more of their beers, but unfortunately we'll have to wait until our next fishing trip to Ketchikan (which, luckily, is only in 4 months). Good job guys, keep up the good brew. read more
