They have the best salmon and the lowest prices actually the best canned seafood. I really like how they have everything so neatly placed and the "aesthetic". They had samples with of their salmon on rjtz crackers and it was really really good. This is a great location to find some the best salmon you've ever had. We've first visited Salmon Etc. when we cruised to Alaska earlier this year. The location is quaint and the proprietors were awesome. There are samples of the smoked salmon, as well as salmon dip made from the same salmon. It was delicious. The sales person said it would not be a problem to bring the salmon pouches and canned salmon on my carry on. However, airport security stopped me and was about to confiscate it but reluctantly let me pass. I'm relieved that he did not make me eat it on the spot or to throw out the salmon. Very easy to miss it if you walk by and not notice it. This store carry all wild caught salmon. We were here looking for belly portion Smoke Sockeye Wild Caught Salmon. This is the premium grade smoke salmon and it is very good. We goof two packages. Each package is $19.95. Worth the money. We have taste the different smoke salmon in the store. "Making your way through the Alaska cruise tourist jungle- observation 101" When you are doing the Alaska cruising thing and want to bring home salmon/seafood souvenirs- you might consider this little shop around the corner in the port town of Ketchikan. The reality is when your liner pulls into port at one of the four or so ports along the way on your Alaska cruise, each of these port areas have shops that cater to the incoming tourists ( for us from Hawaii it reminds me of Waikiki's old International Market Place- pre 2015, when the area was like a tropical bazaar). with lots of jewelry, tshirts and made in China trinkets. In fact, a great many of the workers are seasonal and only work in Alaska during the cruise season which basically runs from May thru September. So one of the authentic foodie items you can buy to bring home is canned salmon and jerky, smoked and unsmoked. Just about every souvenir shop will sell some form of these items, we found that Salmon Etc had a nice selection of items, samples and friendly employees. This is one of those locally run year around businesses that cater visitors and have a strong internet presence too. They have mail order service- while you have to pay for it it's much easier to send your stuff home in a USPS flat rate box and they don't charge extra. The extra large box can fit quite a bit of goodies and we are glad we didn't have to lug this stuff around. Note: they did screw up our box order but a quick 1-800 call remedied the situation and they cheerfully and quickly sent the missing items to us post-haste. read more

I traveled to Ketchikan in May of 2023 and came across Salmon Etc. It's a smaller store but they are incredibly knowledgeable about the products they sell. They provided samples of all their smoked products and the manager Garrett even opened up other products for us try. He was also very accommodating and personable to my autistic son who loves fish, he explained all the differences between the salmon to him. I live in Florida. I ordered some packages of smoked salmon from Salmon, Etc. (Ketchikan) as a Christmas present for my brother who lives in Washington state. When he picked up the order from the post office, one of the boxes was leaking and leaked in his car (smell stayed in his car for several days). He didn't trust that the one package that leaked was good so he threw it out. I tried calling Salmon, Etc. FOUR TIMES. I could never speak with anyone and was forced to leave a message on their answering machine (which I did every time). I never received a call back--EVER!! They say their product is guaranteed and I just wanted them to ship one package to my brother as a replacement. These packages are expensive! I am extremely disappointed in this company and will never purchase anything from them again (even on a cruse ship). If you check their website, they don't even list a contact phone number or e-mail. Go figure. Take your business elsewhere! read more

Please support local businesses in Alaska! Our family stopped in Ketchikan during our Alaskan cruise (Disney) in August 2018. I am so happy that we stumbled upon this shop near the port. The clerk was so personable and knowledgable about salmon and Alaska. Who knew we could buy so many types of salmon! It made for the best gifts for our family and friends back home. All of it was delicious. As for supporting local businesses... most of the shops facing the cruise ships in the port are owned by the cruise companies themselves. Salmon Etc (and many other businesses around there) support the local families who live in Ketchikan year round. The salmon is delicious. What was not was that we paid a total of over $800 for 8 lb each of salmon and halibut, and Salmonetc shorted us on the shipment. We weighted the net weight of the steaks and the shipment was slightly shy on the halibut and short more than 2 lb on the salmon. It was a hassle to convince them that weighing the shipping container ( 2 boxes plus the gel-paks plus the fish) was not a good way to estimate product weight, and that they had indeed shorted us on the shipment. Even after they agreed a refund was owed, they did not refund the total owed to us (~$15 short). But we are not spending any more time on this. Potential customers probably have nothing to worry about though, as we were told that in all the years of business this is the first time this ever happened. So there you go! read more

As a tourist in the salmon capital of the world, we went into every single salmon shop we could find. But this by far is my favorite. I believe they have two locations, one right in front of the cruise terminal, and the other behind the little boardwalk near the stream. Prices were competitive and on par with other shops, but the people here are extremely nice and gave endless samples of a variety of their products. We ended up buying over $100 dollars worth of product, and my mom even wished we bought more once we left! Not being a huge smoke salmon person myself, I only sampled one or two items and was drawn to their smoked sockeye salmon belly with honey. Sounds disgusting, and at $17 dollars for four ounces, we had no regrets. Had it with our salad rolls once we finished our cruise and found it to be some of the best salmon we've ever had. read more

This place was recommended to us by a friend who has shopped here so we checked out this place and another store down the street but we came back here, mainly because of our friend's recommendation and two because the other place was hard pressuring us to buy things. I tried a sample of the salmon pate and it was good! Then they offered to give us a $1 off each can of smoked sockeye salmon so we bought a whole case of 24 and had it shipped for $20 and brought the pate and salmon dog treats home with us. We have yet to receive the shipment but it takes 5-7 business days. So we should be getting it this week. They are friendly and don't pressure you to buy anything. read more

We were on an Alaska cruise that visited Ketchikan. Unfortunately, the weather that day was so terrible that our excursion got canceled. So instead, we walked around town in the rain. Salmon Etc was the first shop we visited and I believe we were its first customers that day. The person we talked to was very friendly and opened up a few cans for us to try the different types of salmon. We instantly loved the garlic and pepper king salmon and the pink salmon... so much that we ordered a box of 24 (12 each) lol. We were mentioning how our luggage was gonna be pretty heavy when he told us a flat $15 per box rate to ship to our house and that he'd also give us a discount for purchasing a box. Sold! We came home and entertained several friends at the house and brought out several of these smoked salmon cans, served with cheese and cracker and also made congee. So delicious. In the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, there are a lot of salmon snobs. For most of us outside of that region of the country, we know of farm salmon which is the pink stuff we see at the supermarket. In Alaska, they love their wild salmon and there is a disdain for the inferior farm salmon. Wild salmon is a different color and taste. There are five different types. In my opinion, sockeye salmon is definitely the best of them. The salmon shops feature salmon spreads in a can that go on crackers, bread, etc. You can sample them in the shops. Two great ones are right by the pier after you get off the ship: Salmon Etc. (322 Mission St, Ketchikan, AK 99901) and Salmon Market (200 Main St, Ketchikan, AK 99901). Definitely stop by both and try their samples. We ended up buying some cans of salmon and salmon fish oil. Salmon Etc. also has a great explanation on its website of why Alaska champions wild salmon: "We offer only Alaska wild fish and hand-processed products using soft, natural ingredients. Farmed fish - raised in crowded, restrictive net pens in Europe, South America and some areas of North America, are fed fish meal that can pass on disease - that's part of why antibiotics are so heavily used in fish farms. Farmed fish are genetically weaker than their wild counterparts. Farmed fish have such pale meat that dyes are added to their food to color the flesh. For good reason, Alaskans are down on fish farming and see the up side of harvesting wild, sustainable fish." Get free tastings before deciding on your purchase. Buy more and get a small discount or free shipping if you buy 24 cans or more. It's either the discount for carryout or free shipping, not both. We went to all 3 Salmon Etc stores and had visited the competition. We ended up buying from Salmon Etc based on taste and quality of their product. Unbeknownst to us, we had been dealing with Fred, one of the owners. It was a really good buying experience. Fred's a great guy and sells a great product. At the time, I was not super educated on sustainable fishing practices but I knew in general that Alaska has very strict laws. I took a chance on buying from here and was able to confirm later that I had chosen well. There was a moment initially when I tried to ask specific questions about their fishing practices that one of the employees couldn't give me any details, but another employee took over for him, and from his experience in his younger years out on the fishing boats, was able to provide adequate answers. They're slightly pricier than some of the other shops, but I felt much more comfortable buying here. None of their products have barcodes, all the canned stuff is kosher and hand-packed in small batch quantities, and they said that their fish is only sold in this particular store or online. I ended up buying several cans of different varieties of smoked salmon as gifts for friends and family. This is a great place to go if you want to support local! read more

If you like Salmon this is a good place to pick up some goodies. The smoked salmon jerky is a must try. They have samples of it in the front so that you can have a taste before making the purchase. We had several expert recommendations that told us to buy our salmon here. The shop is small, but all they sell is salmon. It's a local store, it sells local products, it's here all year. It does not sell t-shirts, photos of eagles, or Chinese-crafted statues of grizzly bears or totem poles. They'll help you with what you need because they know their product and they share samples. Some great bargains were available during our stop. If you're looking to buy salmon in the salmon capital of the world, this is where you come. They ship. Wow! I can't rave enough about this place. Being a pescatarian and all makes you really picky when it comes to fish and sea food. On top of that I am a huge salmon fan. While visiting Ketchikan Alaska, I was so happy to have found this shop since I wanted to bring back some real authentic smoked salmon back home. There was a large selection of salmon jerky, canned salmon, pet items, etc. Staff was so friendly and helpful. I ended up buying a few of their smoked salmon jerky, and canned salmon for family & myself. Once I got home, I tried the salmon jerky and canned salmon, and they were of good quality and tasted excellent. Highly recommended! By far the best canned salmon we have ever eaten. Received our 4 cases, 2 Pink Smoked and 2 King Smoked in Garlic & Pepper. It is amazing!!! We will certainly be reordering when run out. Living in Florida, we thought we had been able to purchase quality salmon; however when we were in Alaska, we certainly discovered what quality salmon really was. I was a little taken back though by how pushy the employees were as I made it clear that I was going to buy something, it was just a matter of what. I almost walked out as they made me feel that uncomfortable.
