Beach is small, water is blah, but the views are lovely and the wind in my hair felt nice. We managed to snag a table right in front of the action and we saw many people pass us by. Coming from Miami, a beach like this one is unlike anything I've seen before. It's not crazy full of people doing who knows how many things at once. In all honesty, I only wish I had brought a paper and pen with me. It was the type of scene that gave me inspiration to write.

It's in the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge, you drive down a long dirt road to reach the beach. It is not always possible to travel the road & should be avoided during hurricanes. You should drive extremely show to preserve the road for residents & other visitors, and to enjoy the wildlife. If you cannot make it to the end of the road b/c it's taking too long, you're visiting for the wrong reasons. Great place to interact with fiddler crabs. Visit the ruins of the old hotel.

If that's not enough, the park itself is clean, quiet, well maintained and supported by phenomenal staff which is definitely the icing. The facilities and laundry services are all clean and updated. There is a pool on site, which is always a nice thing to have in Florida. The park itself is never so overrun that you feel like you're constantly on top of somebody else or having somebody else in your space. Our entire time that we stayed here was actually right after Hurricane Helene hit the area, we had only just purchased our house when it was totally ruined by the hurricane & luckily we still had our rig. This spot allowed us to be nearby while we were trying to even just simply be able to get back in our house to assess damage but beyond that the folks here really did everything that they could to support and lift us up and in an exceptionally hard time. I say all of this as a someone who lived full-time on the road in our class A rig prior to buying here locally so I totally understand the usual complaints/hoped for items when you're looking for somewhere to stay. While placed in rule setting, there are beach access points within 10 miles either direction from the campground but genuinely you just can't beat the dock here as far as fishing, hanging and catching the sunrise and sunset. However just really want to highlight how amazing the folks here are as we understood that our who was catastrophically ruined and unlivable, they really went above and beyond to help us out in every way that they could to provide us a place to stay and any support that we may have needed. Just really great people running a really great local, quiet hidden gem.

Recently, St. George Island was rated in the top 10 beaches in the US, and as I have been there…read moremany times, I would agree. Unfortunately the recent fame may have impacted this quiet uncommercialized family friendly island. This visit was filled with all sorts of redneck behavior from island guests. Our neighbors, following an all day beach drunk fest, busted glass, screamed, and fought into the wee hours of the morning. We witnessed a good bit more "recreational drug use", which is not normal for this place, and we ran into 10 or so small groups of beach fisherman who were targeting shark which is a no no on a busy beach. I'm pleased that the clear water, white beach, and the lack of commercialization is still there, but I'm disappointed that St. George has made the fatal turn of turning into a little PCB. I'm sad to say that I may be changing my beach destination in the future. Please come back to me St. George Island that I have come to love.
