However, when a bunch of my elders, whom I greatly respect, give up their Saturday gaming and agree to get their requisite whites dirty to show a bunch of hoodlums how to play, they have my attention and best effort. Forget that we may or may not have been drinking and we may have made an unsavory joke or two in what we were informed, quite promptly, is a family establishment (can establishments be a well groomed grassy playing court in a park?). Those little snafus aside I was going to give this lopsided ball rolling my best go. Did you know that not only are the balls lopsided but they are weighted heavier to one side so that there will always be a curve out or in when you roll them? I didn't either but thanks to my stellar lesson I do now!! So, I roll the balls for the first time and, wow, its fun! In all of my alcohol induced glee I decided it was a great idea to take on the ultimate challenge and play the US Lawn Bowling Champion. And. I. Beat. Him. What??? Yep, the crowd went wild. I won a very nice polo shirt. Bells were rung, I, one by one, shook the hand of each of the lawn bowling club members present that day, who also happen to have a great sense of humor about these things. I was invited to watch this very same player compete in the World Championship happening in San Francisco this September. Lawn Bowling. Who knew?? I am going to buy some white pants and do this again. Yes. I am purchasing white pants. If that doesn't say love I don't know what does.

I saw a daily deal for a party for 10 at the lawn bowling club and jumped on it. When we arrived on the day of the party, we were met by a handful of ... well, lawn bowling people. They were all super helpful. They helped us all pick out our "bowls" (a set of 4 lawn bowling balls that fit your hand) then we went to the field to play. They explained the rules (there are a LOT -- way more than I expected!) and then they helped us while we played. The bowls are oblong and have a weight on one side, which means you have to really think about where you are aiming. The helpers were all patient and nice, but if I had any small recommendations, it would be that they hang back after a while and just let us play without critiquing and commenting on every shot. But they were just trying to be helpful. Everyone in my group had a great time and some even signed up for a membership. There was a big discount for the membership that day ($68), but normally it is $165/yr. With a membership, you can pretty much go to play whenever you want. If you are curious about lawn bowling, you should give it a try. Call them up and see if they have any special deals or rates for a first timer who wants to try it out. It's a great way to spend a day in the lovely San Diego sun. (And the all-white clothing is only required in Sundays!)

The fair is free to walk around, shop, buy food and drink, listen to the bands. The bands are loud and there are several sound stages. There are booths selling the festival merch, like shirts and hats, and I assume that helps to continue to put on the festival\. The ad said 300 vendors, not sure if there were really 300, but there were a bunch for sure. Definitely a fun thing to check out if you are in the area and wanting a street festival to try.

And it can be pretty hot in Sept, so bring your floppy hats and plenty of water. This was the 40th year with 66 bands - some are 'hit or miss' - but a great selection of music. Lots of vendors for things like solar panels to pest control to food. Most of the food is a little deeper in the festival - but you've got your solid basics: gyros, bbq, and ..... well......fried. Pup friendly but be sure to travel on the off-hours. Nice selection of pet friendly vendors too (leashes, bowls, tons of pet stuff)! Lots of fun for the whole family - it's nice to get out after being locked down for so many years!

I was greeted awkwardly by the beertender who had nothing to say but hello, even when I tried to make a bit of small talk about it being my first time. I spent ten seconds looking at the menu before the titular "Rocko" came running up to my Rocco; growling, barking, and off leash. The presumptive owner of Rocko came up behind him to restrain him and pulled him away without saying a word. Wtf??? If they'd been a stranger on the street i would have been pissed, but this is the owner with the dog they named the business after. If my dog had been smaller than their dog (fairly a large dog in its own right) I would have been TERRIFIED. ZERO STARS. Avoid this business if you have a dog

Can't believe we have been missing out all these years (I believe this is their 15th year) We had VIP entry for 7pm and at 1st I thought I could have saved some money and gone general entry but ended up the extra cost was well worth the money. The general entry line wasn't super long at 1st but for sure it started getting packed. We were 1st in line and eager to check everything out and get some good scares. The trial is a bit uneven but is well lit and actually not too bad to walk. The scareators were amazing, the props as well and the staff superb! The scares are enhanced knowing you are literally walking through the buildings and area of the old amusement park. We were in the first group to enter and what I liked not is we were spaced out. Even though there were roughly 8 of us we all got a chance to get scared. There was no overcrowding or trying to fit too many people through at once. It was perfect. Parking is free and easy in and out (dirt lot but we'll maintained). Depending on the time and date you go might help factor in which ticket option you want. There are three options, general line, fast pass, and VIP. Each allow you to stand in or bypass the line. Later in the season I would for sure go with fast pass at least. I can picture this haunt getting busier. Overall a great local haunt, well priced, easy to get to and awesome people. Can't wait to go back!

We came to the SD Bayfair this year because the America's Finest BBQ state championship was being…read moreheld at Crown Point Park in conjunction with the unlimited hydroplane races on Mission Bay. Sanctioned by the KCBS (Kansas City Barbeque Society), there were about two dozen competitors participating. The public could attend and taste some of the samples for an admission price of $10 plus $2 per food token. Instead of paying $10 to park in the lots, we pulled into a curbside space in the adjoining neighborhood and walked over to the grounds. After purchasing $20 worth of tokens, we walked around to check out the rigs that were set up. There were definitely some fancy and high end barbecue grills and smokers on display and in action. To my disappointment, only four spots were selling samples while the rest focused only on making products for the judging competition. The vendors were the following... * Bill's Blue Line BBQ * Great Scot BBQ * 7 Sins BBQ * Smoke Hound BBQ Each of us was given a ticket to vote for the public's best BBQ. My friend and I both voted for Bill's Blue Line BBQ because across the board, their brisket, pork and ribs were the most consistent in flavor and succulence. A dark horse was Baby's Barbecue who was not selling food, but instead offered some free samples at their canopy. On our first pass, we tasted the pork ribs which had a nice spicy dry rub applied. As we exited and walked past them again, this time it was cuts of brisket that were being passed out. Wow, that meat sample was so moist and soft. It most definitely reminded me of the central Texas BBQ joints I had visited last year. If only there were more places that sold their BBQ to the festival attendees. That was my biggest critique. The thunderboats racing along Mission Bay in the background did make for nice entertainment and viewing.

Regardless, it is generally a great place to catch a show. Through the years, I have seen many great shows here including Flogging Molly, The Shins, Prince, Interpol, and many others. I hadn't been in a couple years, but last week my husband and I went to see The Human Leave, Soft Cell, and Alison Moyet (Yaz). It was an incredible show. Starting out, there are a few things that I dislike about the venue. First, because it is on a college campus, parking can be difficult and you are basically forced into the $30 paid parking garage. Also, I was suffering from a recent sports injury, making the trek across campus to the theater a bit of a task. In the past, the lines for swag and drinks have been nearly impossible, though, this time, they were much improved. Finally, the trek to the ladies' room is a bit far depending on your seat. Also, it is not a large restroom and the line goes slowly, However, it is clean. On the flip side, there are a lot of positive points to this venue. The location is generally decent as it is not far from town. Despite the crowds coming in for shows, it doesn't take too long to get in and out of the parking lots. The event staff consists of many college students working concessions or ushering, and they are very friendly. It is really a nice, open, outdoor, relaxing venue. There is not a bad seat in the house (as many other reviews state). I have been in front, in back, and in the middle. I have been able to see and hear the show very well from each of my seats. It has also been my experience that the crowd has been generally a well-behaved, polite group, though I guess you can't alway count on that. All in all, it is a great place to catch a show, especially during the beautiful San Diego summer months.

We were so disgusted that we decided to leave our seats and go to the back in hopes of avoiding them, but they were literally everywhere and people were stepping on them too. So gross.... Aside from the unwanted visitors, the venue itself was pretty cool! It's an outdoor amphitheater with not a single bad seat in the house.

We brought it up to the lady behind the counter and she said she would get the IT guy. We waited about 5 minutes for someone to finally come around and he goes "It always does that" We expected a refund or something, but nothing. For $5 a picture, what a rip off. If it doesn't work "All the time" how about fixing it and putting an "Out of order" sign on it, so you don't waste $5 on a picture you can't use? Terrible customer service.

I used the card on one of the games but the game was not responding. I tried again and still no response. I decide to go to the counter to see if someone could either take a look at the game or if i could get the credits back. I get to the counter and see 3 or 4 workers just standing there talking, no one acknowledges me. I look around some more and see one worker on the far left helping some customers and another worker on the far right helping some other people. Ok, I'm assuming there's two lines and the 3 or 4 other employees are just taking a break or something. Not a big deal, so i get in the line to the far right. There is one person currently being helped, two teens and then me. The employee finishes with the first customer and then helps the two teens. He finishes with them and when he gets to me he just turns and walks away. He does not say a word, just turns and walks away. A simple "I'll be back in a minute" or even just putting your hand up and saying "gimme a sec" would be totally fine. Instead, no communication, just walks away. I told the group of 3 or 4 people just standing there that I needed assistance and one of them went to refill my card. As i was waiting the guy who was serving the line on the far left came over and asked if I needed help. He was really friendly (he looked Asian or Mexican). Anyways, he's the only reason I'm giving that place two stars instead of one.
