It takes a long time to get drinks out here in the country and I'm not sure why. There were 3 waitstaff for the 7 tables and while the food came out like clockwork, drinks were slow to come by. We got our first set of drinks before dinner and were able to sip them during our meal. I was really excited about dessert and we ordered the cranacan and the sticky toffee pudding. My husband ordered an old fashioned and I ordered a glass of wine, but they weren't delivered until well after dessert was concluded. We even considered canceling the final drink order until our server informed us that the drinks were being made just then, and yet we still had to wait another 10 minutes before we got the drinks. In total we waited about 30 minutes for the 2nd round of drinks and by then we just wanted to leave. The restaurant itself is quaint and cozy with a nice loca feel. I went up to the tasting area to purchase a tasting and apparently it was on the house! So that's a definitely plus. There are several tables and seating areas inside as well as a small showroom type area that has a miniature still, photos, and tools. There isn't much of an outside area to explore. Overall it's more of a stop if you pass by distillery rather then a hey let's plan our day around it distillery.

If you visit during the summer months, it gets busy. In the off season, you can get a tour almost to yourself and it's well with the £10 for the tour and whisky tasting. I've been to a few distilleries in my time but this one is about the friendliest I've been to. A…read moremodern distillery (built in the late 1960s) on the same campus as the earlier and now closed Clynelish (briefly known as Brora) distillery, a selection of fine drams are to be found here. It's handy if you're on the A9 and that far north but a bit out of the way if you aren't touching Scotland's extremities but well worth the visit nonetheless.

Benriach truly makes some amazing expressions of whisky. The whisky was smooth and balanced. The tastings were priced reasonably and the staff gave wonderful notes on the available whiskys. I had tea while I was here as well which was lovely. The visitor center had a small gift shop and I was able to purchase small bottles that would fit in my suitcase. My Favorite whisky I tried was the one from 1993. These are Speyside whiskys and are not peated so they have deep fruity notes. I highly recommend stopping here if you are on a Speyside tour.

It's smaller, more personal, and a welcome breath of fresh air after a few of the big names down the way. We found our way to the tasting room, which is apparently quite new, and delightful. My only suggestion for improvement is some sound absorption materials around. One loud guy can really take over the whole room in a place like this, and from what I've seen, there are often loud guys at places such as this. We each selected a flight for tasting, and they were expertly poured. We were given detailed info about our selections and were happy to head over to the small but well-appointed gift shop to make some purchases. Definitely make The GlenAllachie a part of your Whisky adventure in Speyside! Their Whisky is delicious and the folks there are kind and fun.
