Oooof! The highlight of our time in Cadiz! We would have spent all afternoon here enjoying the food and wine if we didn't have to rush out to catch our ship. They have the most delicious seafood soup that you'll ever try, and their squid-ink rice is on another level. It was a lot of us, so we tried a little bit of everything and I can honestly say that every item was delectable. You can't go wrong. We came here twice during our recent visit to Cádiz... first at the suggestion of our Air BnB host, and second, because the first time was JUST SO GOOD! I agree with several of the other reviewers that getting tapas at the bar is the way to go here - and even if you want a full-blown meal, getting it at the bar will save considerable Euros from your bill, and service is a lot quicker. That said, this place is VERY popular among the locals, and so you may have to wait awhile if you go during the lunch rush-hour of 2 - 3 pm. We'd been told that this place is known for its tuna dishes, and in all honesty, that's a good thing to be known for in this end of Spain. They do it proud! They use sushi-grade tuna and will serve it as rare as you like (Tuna Tartare) to fully cooked. IMHO, their tuna is better on the rare side. The other meals we had there (my wife's favorite goat-cheese salad, and a lasagna de ternera) were also quite good, but - when a restaurant in tuna country is known for its tuna, order the tuna! Amazing seafood. Great wine. Absurdly indulgent desserts. Can't go wrong. We had the fried catfish, sea bass rollidos, and cavina al vino. Amazing. Finished with the dessert assortment which was equally mind blowing. read more

I've been to the place about two times. Once for dinner last year as my boss & I were checking out the city. The other time was at the beginning of the month for an opening dinner celebration. They have a semi-English menu. The food is best described as a blend of traditional tapas fused with a more current european flare. We had sliced jamon as well as seared pork in a Chinese sauce. The atmosphere is pretty Euro chic with clear plastic chairs, white countertops, and loud wallpaper. I never felt uncomfortable, however, being there or felt that I was under dressed. Super cute and very accessible restaurant. Offered menus in both english and spanish. The decor was beautiful inside and felt like a fancy restaurant. Portions were a little small and left some of us hungry after the meal, but the food was wonderful. read more

This is a stylish seafront bar and restaurant. A recent tapas lunch there found the place packed and turning well-heeled local people away. We had 'tortilla de camerones' shrimp fritters, which were beautifully crispy, if not terribly prawny tasting. 'Revuelto de berejenas' was a delicious concoction of tasty large shrimps in eggplant and egg, with a cheese topping. Lastly we had a plate of red mullet done like white bait ('salmonetes fritos'), which was cooked to perfection. With beer and coffee the bill was 40 euros. Service was indifferent, at least to non-Spanish speaking tourists. An interesting experience in a trendy place. Next time we may try a more traditional back street bar, though. read more

Service was attentive but the food was unappealing, sloppily presented, poorly prepared (an entire entree of shrimp was butterflied but still contained the vein), and tasted unappetizing. Good wine selection, typical beer selection despite an illuminated cooler displaying the kegs at the center of the bar. read more

On a recent trip I had an afternoon to spend in Cadiz. I absolutely wanted to go to an authentic tapas bar. I sought a recommendation from my tour guide and she let me know this place was worth the effort. I rushed over and arrived to find this place packed.I sat at the bar found many interesting selections. I was told by a fellow diner that I could not go wrong. Sadly I would need to copy the menu description of my dish side I don't know the name. What I know is that I could return weekly and still find a new selection to thrill my taste buds. I had flan with berries for dessert and that too was great.Next time I would try the sampler with a great offering of multiple delicious looking confections. My only regret is that I didn't have enough time to truly enjoy what this restaurant had to offer read more

Balandro came heavily recommended via Trip Advisor and when we arrived the place was certainly bustling, something we took as a promising sign. The food however was distinctly lacklustre. It aims for a modern spin on tapas but gets it wrong by some distance. I had a 'beef millefeuille' that on paper sounded interesting, but in reality was layers of bland bolognese style beef sandwiched between pastry sheets and buried in a mound of equally flavourless cheese. A salad of cheese and roasted apple sounded fabulous, but it was adorned with two types of nuts, a sickly dressing and all other manner of needless additions. It soon became apparent that the menu (and indeed the place itself) is the epitome of style over substance, with the hip modern surroundings attracting young urbanites as the place to be seen. It's a bar and social space first, a restaurant second. For me Tapas is about simplicity and great quality ingredients, neither of which were really in evidence at Balandro. read more

This one deserves 4 and a half stars. Very affordable tapas. The staff are friendly and very open. Never waited more than a minute for service. Some speak English very well. However I wouldn't recommend the restaurant, not that it's bad, it's good. But the tapas at the bar are way better. read more

Had a very nice meal here. For starters we had the Red Tuna Sashimi. Nicely presented and fresh tasting. Main course of Sea Bass was nicely grilled, salmon in puff pastry had been sitting a little too long to taste freshly cooked. Down side no vegetables served with the main dishes. read more
