Came in with my bf wanting to play It Takes Two and I'm so glad we did. The worker at the front desk was very kind and helpful when we told him it was our first time. You pay for the hours up front but they roll over to other days so you don't have to use it all at once. If you enjoy gaming and know you'd come back as long as the space is nice, i would recommend getting more hours. The interior is spacious, clean and organized (even the bathrooms are nice) and feels like a great place to come solo or with friends. We were allowed to bring in drinks but no outside food. One thing specifically for It Takes Two: although they have the game downloaded, they do not have the friends pass downloaded and trying to do so would've probably taken 30min-1hr+ So my bf and I both bought the game, luckily it was on sale tho. read more

Awesome place! Staff is super helpful and friendly. Me and my son came in on a Saturday afternoon when we were visiting the Boston area so he could play his Fortnite league match. My son played his match and I played some COD and had a beer. Great spot, very cool interior, the Cafe and in seat delivery is great. I'm impressed that Boston's only PC/gaming cafe is a proper establishment with lots of space and a clean modern vibe. I went twice within the first few months of opening and the staff were very helpful. They definitely hired knowledgeable and passionate staff. There's a solid number of games on the PCs. I wish that the PC and console booth hours were interchangeable. It's cheaper to buy hours in bulk (~$6/7) but it's hard to decide how many when they have to be separated. It's also a little hard to play older console games because the quality of an old game on the huge HD TV screen gets tiring fast. Since I don't own a gaming PC or console I would be happy to go back. The place is very popular on weekends and especially at night. I assume all the students in the area will keep Balance Patch busy. They also serve food but the prices weren't enticing for me. Overall, I would go back once in awhile, but it's better with a larger group for the console booths. read more

My friend and I went in here yesterday (Sunday) at ~4PM and I have got to say, I am definitely coming back! The concept of a PC café/internet café/gaming café is pretty foreign to Westerners, but it's a total hit in other parts of the world. Now I totally understand why! As soon as we walked in, I noticed how cool the archway was. The décor of Balance Patch is very nice! The archway as soon as you walk in already sold me on design. In the back, you can get drinks and food. I just had water (which by the way is 25 cents to pay for the price of the cup but hey free refills.) The employees are very nice and enthusiastic so it was a good experience talking to them. We started off with an hour at the N64. They've got an array of cult classics like Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Pokémon Stadium, etc. It was really fun to play the games of my childhood again (and relishing in how far video games have come since then.) The couches were all brand new and they've got two TVs for two parties. It was fun and very spacious for the two of us. After that, we went onto the computers for another hour to test them out. They have got a really great array of popular games as well as some unfamiliar ones to me. My friend and I just played Overwatch and I was -shocked- when I logged in and saw how gorgeous the graphics were compared to at home. My friend had asked the front desk what the specs were, but he didn't have the info available at the moment. Regardless, the ROCCAT mouse practically changed my life in that moment and now I need to buy one for myself. I'm just so surprised how incredibly smooth the computers operated. In addition, actually playing next to your friend is very relaxing and more fun than your separate houses. Balance Patch also has a bunch of tournament nights so I'm really interested in coming back to check those out! read more

I come here for console gaming on Friday nights which isn't run by Balance Patch itself, so this review is more about the amenities. The bathroom is SUPER clean for a gaming venue that mostly guys come to. I cannot stress that enough, as most gaming venues I've been to, I cringe at using the bathrooms or I'll go find a McDonalds somewhere. The food is really good and cheap. I love the sandwiches despite them taking my favorite ham and kimchi sandwich off the menu. The fact that they have nitro coffee is also a huge plus. I'm not a night person so staying up playing games late is greatly aided by delicious coffee. read more

Great place to play league and Dota2 staff are very nice and respectful, place is good and like the food is awesome gotta try out the trolls club sandwich it's delicious, the mouse isn't the greatest but it works just fine, just one slight downside to the keyboard the keys do fall out if you mash them too hard so be careful with that. I am giving 5 stars because I constantly go there in my free time and overall its a great place to hang out with friends and have a good time. read more

I don't know why, but when I first heard about this gaming cafe I was dubious about the cleanliness and overall environment of this place. Since I'm spending the entire summer away from my console, I decided to give the Balance Patch a visit around 8pm for an one-hour session. Environment 9.5/10 I was originally worried about the place being clean as they allow you to eat while you play, but the playing areas are pristine! The seating was comfortable and the desk in front of me is clean and minimalist, only consisting of a XBOX ONE, PS4 and a monitor. The other players seated next to me was a bit loud but it wasn't a problem since I can turn up the volume in my headset. The place smells fresh and the temperature was set at a comfortable level. It was beyond my expectations. Quality 9/10 No complains about the equipment I was given (PS4 controller and a headset) as they functioned as they should and felt and looked sanitary. When I booted up the God of War game, however, the video quality lagged for ~7 seconds of the beginning cutscene. After that, the gameplay was fine except for more lagging at random cutscenes during my playtime. Overall I'm pretty pleased with my experience and the friendliness exuded by the employees there made it 10x better. They were helped in helping you set up and to answer any questions that you might have. It might help for them to tell newcomers the rules (how hours are tracked...etc). I would highly recommend coming here with friends or for a solo session (on the PC as less people have sufficient GPUs for gaming)! read more

Hi I'm Minh Not only is this place a legit PC bang console paradise.... They also have pretty damn decent food! All of their sandwiches are made with freshly sliced boar's head meat and they stack the sandwiches with freshly made bread as well(7-8$ range). Their sourdough bread is better than some sandwich places I have had as well. On top of that they make a mean milk shake (I love me some strawberry 3-4$). But wait they will actually bring food toward your PC if you decide to eat next to it and will grab it also afterwards! The staff here is super knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to the array of responsibilities under their belt. So come for the PCs and consoles but also grab a sandwich and shake while you're at it! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. At first glance, I am mad - they advertise Modern Warfare/Warzone as one of the games they accommodate, however regret to inform players that the internet here is shadowbanned. So, not only was I unable to play what I came to play, but my boyfriend's account has been shadowbanned for attempting to play here. Using the in house accounts doesn't work either. The only reason this is not a 1 star review is because the staff was accommodating and allowed us to get a refund for our time purchased. However, when we discussed this with the staff it was clear they were aware of the problem. Bottom line, they should stop advertising that they can accommodate this game, and inform players of this issue ahead of time. read more

I was fairly excited to see when this place opened up because I haven't played video games in years! I went with a group of friends and we used the couch space for a few hours playing mario games, arms, and Zelda. The cost is a fixed rate per hour, so the more people you go with, the cheaper it is. They also have a VR set in the back, which is pretty fun to watch people look ridiculous swinging their arms around. They serve drinks and snacks, so if you like gaming and snacking, it's the perfect place to be. The workers there are nice and will help you get settled in right away. read more

Everybody else covered the positive notes on this place, and I agree with them, so I'll just review the downsides. It's more of a restaurant than a "café" so don't get the wrong idea. There's no espresso, just coffee. Food is overpriced, like the rest of Boston, so unless you require hourly sustenance, I would suggest sneaking in some pocket-snacks and an energy drink. You can always go out and come back in to resume your time. The stench is quite repulsive, but I knew to expect it. Their website, despite how tech-heavy they are, is neglected. It's not for every gamer. Most Gamers have what they have. The only reason for a place like this is for something to do; an event like bowling or the movies. If you're a regular Gamer, it could be a group-event to play some old games like Gauntlet Legends or Super Smash Bros, or maybe to participate in an event like a League of Legends or Halo tournament. Finally. Why has Boston lacked a place to play video games with friends for so long? Up in Somerville you have A4cade, which is an excellent place to play some oldies while getting hammered. Down in Allston, at Balance Patch, you can hang out with friends at a swanky esports arena/cafe/LAN center. Both A4cade and Balance Patch opened this year, and playing games with friends in Boston have never been better. The main attraction for anyone just walking in would be the PCs that house tons of games. You buy credits by the hour, with the rate decreasing if you buy multiple hours at once. Hours are put on to a card for you to use at any point. I thought Balance Patch was going to be expensive when I first looked at their rates, but nope, they're great. I come by for the events, though. Every week Balance Patch hosts Smash 4, Smash Melee, and fighting game weeklies. Everyone that works there seems super pumped to work with the local community on making the weekly events amazing. They also seem friendly and very willing to accommodate any reasonable issue. By the way, there's a cafe with some good food and some godlike milkshakes. Do yourself a favor and get one of those. Thanks to Balance Patch and A4cade, Boston may finally have a chance at being cool. read more

Been there for about a year now and I have never had a bad experience. Prices for gaming are reasonable for the awesome PCs they provide and it's a great place to meet other gamers. I had fun playing on the Xbox, despite the game I played isn't my main genre. I noticed it was fairly packed with people on the PCs, so I'm hoping I'm able to return with a group of friends and get some time in on league of Legends. (It's not on the menu but they'll make it.) the milkshakes are really good too. They have super smash bro competitions which are really fun to watch everyone gets really into it.
