This place is off the hook amazing. This is one of those times you definitely don't judge a book by it's cover. Close to our farm in Crescent City or 2nd home this little taco stand has the best Mexican food I have eaten since I have been in Florida. Very authentic it reminds me of home. The smells an flavor are soooo good. From the carne asada tacos to the chicken an al pastor tacos it is all so good. The rice an beans are also so good an the portions are great. You can get it to go or sit an one of the tables outside to eat. The have such a selection to choose from an I'm sure it's all amazing. We had Carne asada, chicken an al pastor tacos which the flavors were so good. We also ordered a chimichanga which out friend said was very good as well. I wish this place was closer to Flagler I would be there everyday lol. But when we are at the farm I will be a frequent customer. Highly recommend making the trip to try this place. There are also other places around I am anxious to try but for now this place if muy bueno!!!!!!!!

I really enjoy tacos from this location. the chicken and steak taco on a corn tortilla Mexican style are very good! The salsa/hot sauce is one of the best I have ever had! Have been here a few times and am never disappointed and keeping coming back!

The tacos are outstanding!!! Fresh cilantro, fresh onions, fresh radish, beef, chicken, and pork, so so good! And at only $1.50 per taco, you couldn't ask for better. Service was outstanding too. Loved the outdoor seating. What a great find in this part of the state. 5 stars.

We found Las Carretas Mexican Restaurant in Gainesville through a last-minute Facebook Valentine's…read moreDay event, and WOW what a surprise! The event said no reservations needed, so we showed up not realizing how popular it would be. The place was PACKED with a line out the door! Even so, we only waited about 25 minutes for a table on Valentine's Day, which honestly wasn't bad at all considering the crowd. We went specifically for their Valentine's special: 2 margaritas, fajitas for two, and dessert, such a great deal! The margaritas were delicious. We ordered the Rita sampler and the blueberry margarita tasted like blueberry pie, so fresh, organic, and absolutely yummy. We also ordered homemade guacamole, which was delectable, paired with fresh, crispy homemade chips. Our fajitas included steak, pork, chicken, and shrimp, and everything was cooked to perfection. The flavors were incredible!!! And can we talk about the restaurant itself? It's HUGE! It felt like one of those multi-level Times Square NYC restaurants, with multiple floors and even outside patio seating. It was like a magic trick walking through it! Our waitress, Lia, was fantastic, attentive, helpful, and so sweet despite how busy it was. The staff worked incredibly hard all night and it showed. Plentiful parking, amazing food, great atmosphere. We will definitely be back to this hidden gem we didn't even know existed in town. Thank you for making our Valentine's Day special after a long day of yard work

We stuck strictly to tacos, and honestly, it was hit or miss depending on your taste. I ordered the pastor and chorizo. The pastor had decent flavor but could have been juicier. The chorizo was a letdown for me -- it had a pasty consistency, almost like refried beans, and was heavy on potatoes, which wasn't what I was hoping for. I also tried a hard shell pastor supreme, expecting an authentic house-fried tortilla, but it reminded me more of what you'd get at Taco Bell. My husband went with carne asada, chicharrón, and chicken. The carne asada was juicy but the flavor just didn't hit the way I expected. The chicken was good but came shredded. The chicharrón had solid flavor -- I just personally struggle with the texture, though that one's on me since I knew going in! One thing all the tacos had in common: the meat portions felt too small for the size of the tortillas. Personally, I wouldn't classify this as truly authentic Mexican, but that's just my palate. My husband, on the other hand, loved everything -- so clearly taste is subjective! Don't just take my word for it. Give this place a try yourself and form your own opinion. It may not have been for me, but it just might be for you!

We tried the tacos -- the carne asada was a little on the dry side, but the al pastor totally made up for it (so flavorful!). The pollo flautas were solid too, but the real standout for me was the cucumber lime fresca -- so refreshing and absolutely delicious! Definitely planning to come back for another round of frescas and to try some of their soups next time. Cozy little spot worth a visit!
