I cannot say enough good things about our experience for 6 anglers yesterday. First off let me preface this review by saying I have been on a lot of fishing trips with various companies throughout the southeast and Texas. I know what makes for a really good guide and these guys are it. Let me explain. I had a few people in our group that hadn't done this type of fishing at all so I was hesitant when I got the report of 3-5 seas with the wind picking up. A few boats on the radios reported it a little worse than that. Normally a fishing guide will ask at the launch if you want to go out or skip the trip. Once you step foot on the boat your money goes hard. No changing your mind. BUT these guys are different. They offered to run us out 10 miles (since an 8 hour trip takes you out 25) to see what it was like BEFORE you had to decide. That was it for me, even before getting out to that check point I was hooked (see what I did there?) on these guys as true pros. We got to the check point, had a quick discussion amongst ourselves and out to sea we went. We caught fish. We caught big fish. We caught a lot of them. We actually limited out on Grouper. Simply put I cannot recommend these guys enough. If you're in the area and want a different experience than the ole party boats give these boys a shot.

Cindy at the front desk was incredibly helpful and made sure we were fully prepped before heading out--her friendliness and attention to detail really set the tone for the day. Once on the water, the crew was just as amazing. Everyone was welcoming, patient, and super informative, which made the experience enjoyable whether you're a beginner or more experienced. The captain did an awesome job moving us to several different spots to make sure we were actually on fish--and it paid off! It truly felt like they went above and beyond to make the trip special. Such a fun and memorable way to celebrate a birthday. Highly recommend booking with them if you're in Clearwater!

Everyone on our boat caught a fish actually 10 or more unless you were asleep. This is the number one for fishing in Clearwater. And I didn't get the chef's name, but he make a heck of a hamburger and sausage and egg sandwich that I ever had. I will always come back here. Check out my catch in the photos.

If you go, make sure to bring windbreaker / raincoat and sweater or jacket. The owner's wife Heather is terrific. ---- In response to the business owner's comments (see below), his son did not do a good job of making the trip fun, comfortable or safe. He's not a good communicator which is important when you're working with families. It also wasn't to the best idea to go so far out, which was his call. Fortunately, I was eventually able to talk him into staying a bit closer in after a long discussion. The young captain spent much of our time out there working on the boat. After his repairs to try and fix the broken speedometer, the boat wouldn't start and we were stuck out at sea for hours. The young captain's plan was to drift back towards shore until we were in cell phone range. No flares. No emergency devices to contact anyone. No joke. It would have been a very cold and uncomfortable night and it was quite an ordeal for us and our kiddos. Fortunately, I was able to contact emergency services and got us rescued. I tried to be pretty nice in my short review and focus on the positives, but I wouldn't use this charter company again and I certainly can't recommend them. Even if we hadn't had mechanical trouble, which happens, my family much preferred the way Maverick Charters handled my family's charter. The captain didn't have us towed by professionals because it would have cost him money. And the idea that we insisted on going out in a storm or that their poor decision making, lack of preparedness, and the captian's poor communication skills were our fault is just nonsense. They changed the time of our charter and we went along with it, just as we went along with all of the captain's decisions until realizing that he was incapable of handling the situation at hand. We all make mistakes and they're not bad people, but the owner lashing out at me over a bum cruise that we were still charged full price for is pretty gross. Your training, planning, maintenance and customer service skills need work. You can do better. Live and learn.

Left at 1pm, dropped our first hook at 2pm. 3 hours later, a few cold beers, and some tired arms, we called it a day. Mike, was the man! Had a cooler full of ice ready, rods all set up, and worked his A$$ off to make sure we had fun! From baiting up, getting the catch off our lines, to finding the fish! Only thing bad, Grouper season ended y'day and we didn't know it, so we had to toss back the 3 nice ones we brought in. However, we did fill a cooler of keepers!
