PHENOMENAL Syrup and the tour was awesome! Our tour guide Jacob was outstanding! He made it fun learning about how Organic Maple Syrup is made and we walked to a maple tree to see how the process works and then went to the processing room. We saw the process from start to finish. We then went to the tasing room at the end of the tour. We sampled 7 or 8 different varieties. Very smooth syrup. DELICIOUS! Highly recommend. Beautiful drive out to the Farm as well. I cannot remember exactly how I found out about this place. I believe I just happened upon it while out for a weekend in Vermont. Driving around while staying in the Rutland area. But i am glad I came upon their little shop and farm. Baird is family owned and operated. It seems the "kids" have taken over and there is an increase in online social media presence. Sometimes I order on line and sometimes I just go up to the area for some fresh air and stop by the shop. The shop is clean and modern while staying true to its woodsy Vermont roots. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about all things Vermont. The syrup is very good...absolutely worth the trip. I use it on everything from pancakes to yogurt to hot cereal. I prefer the more robust blends but to each his own. read more

VERY COOL OPPORTUNITY TO TOUR A MAPLE SYRUP FARM!! So Vermont isn't just home to Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. Vermont is actually the highest producing U.S. state of Maple Syrup. So us being completely naive of what it takes to bring that to our table to douse our waffles with it, we decided to look into opportunities to gain more insight into its production since we were venturing into the state. A few farms are accessible to the public but due to COVID-19, commercial factory and farm tours in Vermont have been suspended. Sabotage! A little more research, though and lo and behold! Baird Farm to the rescue!!! (Cue superhero music!) They offer Private tours by appointment, of their maple syrup production. YES! And for free! Oh SNAP! Winner, WINNER!! Ms. Jenna was our contact person over the phone to set things up, and she made it completely drama free, very pleasant to chat with. She greeted us once we arrived, but it was Mr. Jacob that dropped da knowledge on us (BOOM!) as he guided us through the production process. 50 points for Jacob! On the Baird Farm, they gatz HELLA trees! Approximately 14, 000 sugar maple trees on 500+ acres. We only saw a smidgen of those, which my son was grateful for! ( Lots of hikes prior, he was hoping for easy stroll on today's visit lol). Different ages of sugar maples are all over the place. Found out you can only tap a maple after it exceeds 11-12 inches DBH (Diameter at Breast Height). Harvest is from winter to early spring so we missed out (Doh!) on actually watching trees being actively tapped or us having a hands on experience at tapping. As maple sap is 98% water, we got to learn about the evaporation process as well. Apparently a productive season is 1/2 gallon of syrup per tree. See that?!? Knowledge Drop! We finished the tour in their farm store, and sampled a bunch of syrup flavors. Yum! Taste test! Most of us were of the "dark" persuasion, and myself, VERY DARK STRONG! (Would be better if I had a fresh waffle to pour it on... just sayin'. lol) That Mint flavored Syrup tho... Nom Nom! We all proceeded to buy a few items and some merch, even snapped some pics with Mr. Jacob & the fam, then our tour was done! A solid 1.5 hours of definite quality time! Thanks Baird Family! EASY RECOMMENDATION! Mr. Jacob was a perfect host... entertaining, accommodating, & VERY informative. Answered all our questions without any hint of irritation. Quite the pleasant chap, indeed! We were welcomed onto the Baird Farm by Jacob and Jenna for a tour during our family reunion in the summer of 2019. Jacob took time out of his day to show us how REAL maple syrup is made followed by a tasting. What a genuine, interesting, and wonderful experience it was and it's not an exaggeration to say it was the most deep and flavorful maple I had ever had. My favorite is the spruce infusion. Since then I have ordered their maple syrups via their site. Whenever I eat some, it brings back memories of that summer in Vermont. A must see and do in Vermont. My wife and I drove to Vermont for a brief getaway and see the autumn foliage. As we were driving around in, we stopped at a general store and we were looking at buying some maple syrup as gifts for our friends and family. My wonderful wife decided to google maple syrup farms and found Baird. Unfortunately it was on Monday and the website said tour reservations were required 24 hours in advance. Unfortunately we were leaving the next day, so we decided to drive by anyway. Perfect timing, we walked in to the end of a packed tour just in time for a maple syrup tasting. Everyone was laughing and having a great time. We met Jacob and Jenna. The tasting was as delicious as it was informative. As the tour was winding down and the happy group was enjoying shopping, Jacob told us to hang out. We explained our dilemma and were treated to a private tour with one of the nicest and funniest down to earth people I'd ever met. Jacob has a true love and enthusiasm for maple syrup. Someone suggested that we try a maple syrup tour and tasting while in Vermont and I am so glad I listened. This was a fun, fascinating, and educational experience that my son and I will not forget. Our guide was one of the owners and she was so good at teaching us about the process and it is obvious that she loves it. She was extremely vigilant, in the most polite way, about social distancing and mask wearing, which I greatly appreciated. The tasting was actually pretty eye-opening as every sample seemed better than the last. We tried their newer infused syrups which I was sure I wouldn't like, but ended up loving. All of this in an absolutely gorgeous and peaceful setting made this one of the top experiences in our 2 week New England trip. We left with a box filled with their delicious products (reasonably-priced) and I can't wait to share it with the rest of my family. A fun way to spend a couple of hours learning about the maple syrup process from selecting the trees to tap to producing the final product. This tour has a gentle slope walk of about 1/4 mile total distance over grassy pasture to view how the tapping process works. Wear close toed shoes. The sugar house visit is next, where you will see the equipment used to reduce the liquid sap into the maple syrup we all love. Lastly, you will sample the various syrups that are produced on the farm. This was our favorite part! You will have the opportunity to purchase some syrup from the farm before you leave. They will ship your purchases (I didn't want to lug four gallons of syrup on the plane back home), and the shipping cost is reasonable. read more

Tried the new Baird Farm Maple Ketchup. Absolutely delicious! I would have expected sweet, but it actually has a bit of a smokey, maple flavor combined with enough of a bite to keep it all honest. It's a great combination, and such a nice addition to flavors on you plate. And might I say, the visit to Baird Farm should be on the itinerary of any travelers trip to Vermont. The setting is astounding, such a view of the Greens and the valley. The Bairds are quite possibly the nicest people in the state. The whole experience was awesome, my family and I were running late for a tour and Jenna was so accommodating in letting us know it's ok and we can catch up. Upon arriving Jenna was welcoming and guided us to her husband Jacob who was leading the tour. He was so knowledgeable and open to all and any questions we had. We went on the Winter tour, which consisted of going out and looking at their maple trees/tubing systems (stunning even in the frigid temps!), having a tour of the manufacturing side of maple syrup, and ending with a tasting. I feel like I learned so much but was also having so much fun. They have a great variety of maple products for purchase, including your classics like syrups and candies, but also maple syrup infused hot sauces and ketchup!
