Great place to shop. Good variety. Staff are very helpful. They even help take heavy loads to your car.

There are stairs to get in the front, but it is level in the back where there is a parking lot as well! Our server was super nice and treated us well. They have pretty good beer list, but have a huge wine list surprisingly. They have many cocktails to choose from too! Our food was all delicious. They have a variety of options that span from fairly priced elevated "bar food" to gourmet dishes. The cheese curds came as cubes and were delicious! Super fun take on the traditional, and a must have for a bar in Wisconsin. For meals we got the hot honey chicken sandwich, tai chicken flatbread on cauliflower crust, lobster ravioli and DH burger! Everyone loved their meals. We'll be back for sure!

just passing through town, and as always, turned to Yelp. I would like to give 5 stars to bring up…read more the rating up because I think they're a 4.5 star restaurant. We were impressed by the Gray's root beer and ginger beer. Love them serving truly local brewed sodas. The root beer was a little vanilla heavy but I liked it because I don't like most root beer. The ginger brew was EXCELLENT, and I know my ginger beers. Now I have to find out where I can buy it. We consider ourselves calamari aficianados (self-proclained, of course.). We were stoked to try it based on all of the rave reviews. Alas, this is the dish that most drop the rating for us. The calamari pieces were very small, very tough and the batter blew off. Weirdly, it showed up so close to our ordering it that I wondered if something was wrong. Was the oil so hot that the usual cook time was now too long? We're they trying a new vendor and these very small pieces cooked WAY to fast. In any case, I suggest they relook at the quality control on that dish. Below I send a photo of all the batter that fell off in the serving dish. It was a nice sized order and tasted like very good rubbery, miniature calamari. My husband ordered the pork chop and it was delicious. It was so moist and I didn't know whether that was due to brining, sous vide, bone in, or just the best preparation I've ever had. And his plate was full of potatoes and brussel sprouts. Couldn't have been happier. I had the walleye (only on Fridays) and it was a beautiful, thick fillet cooked to perfection. The potatoes were delicious, albeit not as pesto as I expected. But skin on and purple potatoes showed me a commitment to quality ingredients. There was also a nice slaw on my plate. I like that their plates had a starch and a vegetable; kind of like the restaurant days of old. No nickel and diming the customer with ordering all your sides. Heck, skin on potatoes and the more-nutricious purple potatoes are like vegetables as well. Service was great and the restaurant was nice and warm despite it being a very cold day. That means a lot to me as an "older" customer We will definitely come back and even maybe try the calamari because our tiny ringlets and tentacles didn't look like any of photos I have seen.

I went with the Daisy Jane which was perfectly balanced as well as nice and fresh. It tasted like spring! Korea to Brazil and the Lark Old Fashioned were also had by others at the table and were enjoyed as well. For a starter we ordered the Decatur Cheese Curds which along with the cocktail were probably my favorite of the evening. Entrees we tried included the mint and pea ravioli, spring vegetable risotto, and the spring ragu fazoletti. The service was fast and friendly. The interior is well designed with nice ambiance. I would return again when the menu rotates.

Ok since the business has unfortunately closed now, I feel like I am able to write this review in a…read morelight that could hopefully been viewed as constructive criticism. I initially didn't write the review because I truly wanted this place to succeed and do well and hoped we just caught them on a bad night. Now I'm writing it for the owners in hopes that they can understand why we chose not to return and hopefully the issues raised will help them on their next venture. First off, the drinks were great. (Honestly if Lark just reopened as a speakeasy style cocktail bar, I'd be there in a heartbeat.) It was just very unfortunate that the first one didn't come out until 10 minutes after we ordered and then we waited another 10 minutes for the other two. My wife was 2/3rds into her old fashioned before the other 2 people received their drinks (and one of them was just a glass of wine!). And let's be real: a restaurant's gotta do a few things right to get by, and one of them is sending the drinks to the table at the same time. Secondly, our server did not only start working at Lark that day, but we were her first table ever! She was super nice and tried her best, but the service was very hit and miss understandably. We really felt for her. It felt like a really bad move by management to have a completely new server start on a Friday night. And unfortunately I'm certain our dining experience suffered because of this. And with the exception of our server, the other staff didn't feel all too friendly or welcoming. I could have gotten better service and a warmer reception down the street and pay 1/3 of the price. The place felt very cozy and was well decorated, and we had a lot of time to enjoy the scenery while we waited an hour for our food to arrive after we ordered. Yeah, you read that right. One hour. When it finally came I was disappointed with burger, especially since it was a 25+ dollar burger. The brisket was really dry and burned but on the upside the fries were very good! The other people in my party had the bone-in pork chop, which was very well made and delicious, but all it came with was a bed of cabbage. Afterwards we all agreed that for a $35 plate, you shouldn't be leaving the restaurant still hungry. Again, we really wanted to like Lark. And especially since this was a birthday dinner (which we made a reservation for a week prior) we were really trying our hardest to like it. But even though we mentioned it was a birthday dinner in our online reservation and mentioned it again at the hostess desk, we didn't even get a "happy birthday!"... I know, it's a small thing, but small things add up. And sadly nothing really added up that night except the 3 figure bill for 3 people. Ultimately it cost way too much for way too little in return. So, to the owners, we really do hope you're able to get another shot at making an upscale restaurant work because we love the other businesses you've been involved in and we know you can find a. Way to make it work. I hope you're able to take this review with the constructive spirit in which it was meant to be given. Until next time hopefully!

I was there with a friend but others participated in the tasting as well and they were a fun group! They serve food (sandwiches, flat bread pizza) and have charcuterie boards for purchase as well. We did a cranberry chicken sandwich and a pretzel cheese plate. Both were very good! Besides wine they had canned items and cheese/sausage on sale as well. We didn't order food from the menu this time, but they do offer food. There was also a local woman there selling homemade sourdough bread that was to die for. I think we were a little surprised to find it inside a hotel, but that's what you get for casting a wide net the only looks at yelp reviews. Nonetheless, it's a nice ambiance, although very quiet and small. There's maybe a dozen tables and a small bar. It was mostly empty on a Thursday night when we were there. We personally enjoy the quietness of the setting though! If you're looking for more of an upscale ambiance, this probably isn't the place accordingly. I think the quality of the food probably punches above its ambiance weight class though. My wife ordered a steak and for the area, I'd say it was seasoned and cooked better than most. My beef bolognese was alright, but not the best Italian dish I've had in the area. We also tried the Brussel sprouts and they didn't do it for us. They were steamed with a shredded parm and I probably would have preferred a baked/balsamic rendition better. The alligator on the other hand was a dish worth coming and trying though, the sauces paired very well-my only quibble was that it seemed like their fryer oil needed to be replaced as there was a very subtle aftertaste of burnt oil. They also offer you a free desert if you're out celebrating, which was a really nice gesture in our opinion. Overall the service and food were above average. The ambiance and price left something to be desired. In general I would recommend this place to someone who maybe hasn't traveled as much but wants to get an upscale steakhouse feel in the Janesville area. If you only have one night in the Stateline area I'd personally direct you someplace else to try to blow your socks off.
