After many Chilean meals, we wanted to try a different cuisine. French bistro popped in mind and we followed our Yelp guide and landed at this very nice foodies neighborhood. The restaurant atmosphere was very pleasing right from the get go. Restaurant is very open with indoor and outdoor seatings. Servers were very friendly and patient with us since non of us speak Spanish and they speak very little English. They do have English menus though. We had pate as our appetizer which was very tasty and not greasy. We had the beef tenderloin , lamb dish and also the duck confit. All dishes are very good. My friend picked a Chilean wine for $28 which is an exception value. All together, our bill came to $154 which is supper reasonable. I do highly recommend this place.

Had a wonderful meal here in a nice restaurant. Got right in on a Saturday evening. Very extensive wine list, especially the cabs. Ordered a mid priced Chilean wine that was quite good. My wife ordered sea bass that was excellent and I ordered the pork medallions that was very good. Came with tasty creamed spinach. We had crème brûlée for dessert. The service was great. Our server very attentive. The restaurant ambiance is very nice and modern.

De la Ostia, close to Baco and a much better choice.

We had an unexpected change in plans that allowed my family to choose a fine dining experience in Santiago on Tuesday, 03 January 2023. Since we hadn't planned dinner out, and assuming restaurants would not be full on a Tuesday, we foolishly chose Baco of the many options in Providencia based entirely on its #1 rating in Yelp. Being summer, my son and I were dressed in collared shirts and shorts and my wife and daughter were wearing light summer dresses. This is a key detail, like another reviewer posted of her 09 January 2023 experience, my wife was rejected because of her appearance. Despite my son and I being in shorts and sneakers, the headwaiter (maître d') pointed at my wife and said we would not be permitted in the restaurant because he didn't approve of her shoes. We left, my was wife humiliated. Thankfully there is an abundance of restaurants in the area and we ended up at De la Ostia, which is very close. See my other reviews for the wonderful Tapas experience we had there. Later back home, I looked at Baco's menu and realized they just serve the standard classic French fare, available anywhere including my home since I frequently prepare French dishes. Cassoulet, Beef Bourguignon etc.. Anticipating they offered the standard crappy pre-frozen Crême Brûlée, I was not surprised to find it on the menu. Ultimately, the arrogant and pretentious staff at Baco did us a huge favor because we had a wonderful dining experience at a restaurant that appreciated our business and treated us very well.

In the Providencia area of Santiago along side the Mapocho River is a few block area full of local and great restaurants. One we went to was Baco. It had a nice outdoor area that was covered and also a large indoor dining room. The food is local and was delicious - everything from meat to pasta to fish. A great place to spend a couple of hours relaxing in a clean, comfortable environment. Service was great. We didn't have Wi-Fi so couldn't use their tablet menu but they pulled up the menu for us and took our order manually. Very nice. The Chilean white wine wasn't bad either.

I started lunch with a soupe à l'oignon followed by a cassoulet. Both were very good. When I was paying the bill I learned they are the only restaurant not accepting tips. Inhabituel! Anyway, having lunch at Baco was a very nice experience.

They have a good selection of wines by glass

Environment is super nice, the food is also great. My only caveat was the price - we got an expensive cheese platter that, when it got to the table, was extremely tiny. It was delicious, though. They have an extensive list of wines by the glass, with a huge variety, good for wine tasting. Their Foie Gras Terrine is VERY good. I've tried this kind of terrine in many different places, and this one has an amazing ratio of foie gras, they're definitely not petty with this, which makes it absolutely worth it. For dessert, try the Fondant au Chocolat, you won't regret it. Didn't order, but the Milhojas was very popular in the tables around us as well.

So we had one night in Santiago. And a local friend recommended Baco. I had a Melchior in my bag but always prefer to debate with a sommelier specially on wine resto! So we had an amazing Calyptra 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon that was the best match for the rabbit table as appetizer and my husband cassoulet (if u like cassoulet make sure to order it. It's awesome) and I had the bourguignon. Was ok but it was not a 12 hour one (just four hours) Enjoy!

Easily the best wine we have had in a year or two... or three!!!

We arrived a bit early for dinner (after 7, but before 8 is early) but were greeted with gusto and the wine list. I'd been wanting to check this place out because who doesn't love a restaurant in which an entire four-story wall is just wine?! The wine list didn't disappoint. I had a glass of Syrah, which was divine (by dessert, I was tempted to go for a second, but opted for decaf coffee instead). We perused the menu for a long while. I will definitely be bringing friends and family here when they visit--everything looked amazing. You can even order a charcuterie tray of just meat, just cheese, or a combo. Doesn't that sound perfect with a bottle of vino?? Other group-dining options include a seafood platter consisting of oysters and crab...Yum! The hubs and I weren't super hungry, so we skipped the appetizers and went straight for the main course, though I will be back for the appetizers soon. I asked the waiter if he recommended the mushroom risotto or the fish of the day. He said if I like salmon, then the fish hands down. I love salmon, so that was easy. The hubs, as usual, went for the steak. At first he was leaning toward a dish that had steak and veggies, but the waiter said that was too bland and recommended the filet with foie gras. We also ordered a side of mushrooms. Everything arrived quickly and perfectly. I was most surprised at the level of seasoning in my dish--the butter sauce was great and even had plenty of salt to boot. The fish came with potatoes (the usual staple around here) that were not overcooked but were still soft enough to slice with a fork, though I might have preferred some green veggie instead. We both cleaned our plates and thought we might go for a stroll to get ice cream down the street. But then our waiter cleared our table and offered us the dessert menu. Why not? Everything looked incredible. The hubs was leaning toward flan but opted for the tiramisu at the behest of the waiter. I couldn't turn down the berries with merengue and vanilla ice cream. It was perfect! I think I could eat here every day, seriously. So many delicious menu options and so much wine! I'm not sure how it is for the English-speaking crowd, but I would guess they have at least one server on staff who could translate for you. Most of the menu is pretty easy to figure out, though! Enjoy!

I had a seared tuna salad which came with lentils and palta (avocado). The tuna was done nice and it served well but it was lacking any taste, it did come with a tiny shallow dish of dressing but it wasn't enough to flavor the salad. Portion was large, although some of my table mates ordered other dishes and I thought they were pretty measly (the coq o vin was tiny). Service was good and booze was very strong. 1 mojito nearly knocked me out. Decor is very "W Hotel" style indeed. Overall decent place but I wouldn't return for the food alone.

We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine to share with 4 people and 2 beers for the other two. We ordered burgers, steak and I believe a pasta. After the meal we were ready to commit to more drinking and so we asked for the wine menu. After narrowing it down, we asked the server, male with a beard, light complexion with a nose ring, in Spanish "we want to buy a bottle of wine, but if you have this bottle open (since it's available by the glass) can we try it to make sure we like it before we commit to it" The server immediately rolled his eyes before turning around and beginning to walk away. One of our party said "hey, I saw that". He looked at her and walked away. Then he told our initial server about it who gave us a dirty look.
