I ordered takeout for myself and my husband last night : 1 Carne Asada Bueno Bowl 1 Al Pastor Bueno Bowl 2 orders of chips with beans and salsa 2 Flan Pickup was a little confusing as it is pretty compact inside the store. There is a big sign that says "Online Orders" however, customers are scattered all over inside & it is not clear who's in line to order or who's waiting on an order. I felt a bit uncomfortable because I did not want to cut anyone in line. I did enjoy seeing the wood fired grill inside the restaurant, right behind the registers. It smells great and you get a chance to see the meats and veggies being prepared. They also have a self serve salsa bar, which is always a great addition! They have 4+ different salsa options, plus pickled onions, cucumber slices, lime slices, and radishes! Yum!! I mentioned that indoor seating is limited, but there is a very nice covered front patio area available with plenty of seating. If I had been dining in, I would have loved to eat outside. The food was great. Portions were on-point with the price you pay. I could only eat 1/2 of my bowl, and a few chips before I was completely stuffed! I really wanted to give this place 5 , but there was one issue that caused me to drop to a 4. Once it was time for Dessert, I noticed that the Flan was not fresh. 1 container had a date label that said "08/12/25" and the other said "8/09/25" it was 08/13/25 when we had this meal. I was not very concerned about the 08/12/25 flan, but knowing that one was from 4 days prior was definitely off-putting for me. All in all, we enjoyed the meal & would go back in the future. However, if ordering Flan again, I will check the labels before leaving the restaurant so that I can ask for a fresh one instead. read more

My GO TO taco spot! Everyday but Sundays... cause they're closed :( I absolutely love the Al pastor tacos, tostadas, bowls... I'll eat them all and never complain! The Al pastor has small pieces of pineapple in it. Also love the chicken, some days more than the pork! Taco Tuesday offers a small discount. This was our first time here, and unfortunately, we probably won't be back. After waiting quite a while, I heard my name called once and immediately walked toward the counter. Another customer stepped in front of me, and the employee explicitly told her that all three trays--including ours--belonged to her. I didn't initially recognize our order because one of the items was incorrect. When I checked my receipt, I noticed that it listed an item I didn't recognize and would not have knowingly ordered. When I brought that mistake to an employee's attention, they argued that I had ordered it rather than trying to resolve the issue. By the time our refund was being processed, the other customer still had not returned our food. She eventually brought it back approximately 10-15 minutes after taking it. Staff then attempted to serve us those same trays, still with the incorrect item, even though the food had been outside the restaurant's possession and with another customer for that entire time. I was not comfortable accepting it due to the obvious food-safety concern. The employees became irritated and claimed they had repeatedly called our order and that we failed to collect it, which was not what happened. I heard it called once, went directly to the counter, and watched the employee give our trays to the other customer. We had already been there for approximately 45 minutes without receiving our food or drinks, and we were told a remake would take another 20 minutes, so we requested a refund. The staff were rude about that decision, and employees in the back appeared to be laughing about the situation. Mistakes happen, but the incorrect order, attempt to serve food returned by another customer, and dismissive way the situation was handled made this a very disappointing first experience. read more

This place was poppin! Thought I'd give it a try, I ordered 3 carne asada tacos with double rice and a large horchata, I also ordered a Flan. They asked me if I wanted free grilled onions and jalapeños on the side and I said yes. Got my order, no jalapeños or onions. I could have asked for it but I passed, they have a mini bar with salsa and pickled onions and things like that, they are very good about keeping it replenished. I inhaled the tacos, the rice tasted really good as well. The Flan on the other hand was basically cheesecake. Very thick, same texture and taste as a cheesecake. I have passed Backyard Taco more times than I can count. I am not sure why we never stopped by, but its extremely close to our new home and after a late night of moving, it seemed like a perfect opportunity! Not to mention, it was taco Tuesday! We showed up about 9 PM, and the setting is adorable. Though it is on University and receives heavy road traffic, with their shrubbery around the patio, it is not disruptive at all, or at least I did not notice. They also had lovely lights, which really set the tone for a great atmosphere. Service was good. everyone was friendly and food was prompt. We opted for carne asada, birria and pollo tacos. Though they are street tacos, they all had very generous portions of meats and toppings. Whether that was a late night situation or a regular situation, I am hear for it and greatly appreciated it! No one likes a skimpy taco. In addition, they have an excellent salsa bar. This girl LOVES a salsa bar. They had an avocado crema type salsa, a verde and red, pickled onions, pico, limes - basically all the fixings you could want. The tacos were extremely tasty and I loved the toppings, they were not out of this world, but they definitely hit the spot. The only disappointing part of our meal was the horchata. It was super watered down and lacked the rich and creamy flavor I desire. I would definitely order one again though to see if it was a one off. All in all, I would absolutely go back and look forward to trying some other things on their menu. The food is consistently good, and as time goes by they tweak their menu to make it friendlier for me and my family. They now have bowls, which are ginormous, and plates that include beans and rice. The food is so good here. I am excited when I order because the food is roasting right behind the counter. They had chicken roasting and whole tomatoes roasting when we came. Pretty good tacos!! Mesquite grill. Only about 6 tables inside, the rest are outside hence "backyard." I think. Kind and quick service. We got one of each taco: beef, chicken, al pastor, and birria. Our favorite was probably al pastor, but they were all good. We also got a gordita for the first time and we didn't enjoy how hard the tortilla underneath was to chew...it wasn't as soft as the tacos or crunchy as the tostada. I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be so might just be a personal preference. The beans and cheese tostada was really yummy. We came here as it was convenient to where we were and we had a dog with us, and we were assured that the patio is dog friendly. We arrived right before noon, and were lucky to get a patio table and to order our food before the crowd showed up. Our orders were taken quickly and the meals were served hot and fresh, and our orders were accurate. I enjoyed my quesadilla with carne asada. Many places have carne asada with gristle or pieces that are really fatty. That was not the case here, it was all lean and tender, and had a very nice smokey flavor. The tortilla was nicely toasted and crisp on the outside. I do think that over $4 for a small basket of chips and some beans to dip in is high, as most places offer free chips, but the beans had cheese on top and were good. It was almost too much food for a side for 2 people who also had entrees. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the patio is right up next to the street and it was loud so we had to talk quite loudly to have a conversation. The lady taking our order kept repeating it completely wrong and we kept having to tell her we want the birria tacos and not the carne asada tacos. When we received our food it was not at all what we ordered. We told the gentleman that placed it on the counter that was not what we ordered and he said there wasn't anything he could do. They refused to correct our order as it had already been made. We had very specifically ordered corn tortillas and received flour tortillas and they would NOT remake them with the needed corn tortillas we ordered and we ordered 3 tacos and only received 2 but they said that's what we paid for so that's all we're getting. I visited for lunch today. The food was fast, fresh, and delicious! I asked the employee at the counter to pick for me between the quesadilla and the burrito. She chose burrito and it did not disappoint! The meat is grilled right behind the counter over an open charcoal flame and it's great! Chips and salsa as a side is enough to feed 2-3.
