Horrible Paid in full for a pool on June 3 If paid in advance I would get a discount. Pool stairs, light, winter cover, and a PermaSalt system. 3-day install scheduled for June 25Th. Salesman David Merrick. Contract emailed to me. I explained to David that it was missing info and it was wrong David explained Alan would bring it to my house when he came to the property Alan came on June 9th and did my site survey and left. David contacted me with a site drawing, I reached out to David to notify him of the errors, To this day no call back from him. June 21st Alan Mosher called to let me know that, due to the three weeks of rain they needed to push my job to July 3rd. I quickly canceled my plans for the 4th and told Alan I had not heard from David. He informed me that he would be my contact from now on. July 3rd nobody showed up at my home I called Alan no answer I texted Alan no response I chalked Bavkyard Leisure was told me they would have Alan call me continued to call and text throughout the 3rd-4th never a response On the 8th of July I drove to Kernersville, I had not heard from anyone since the 21st of June. At the store, I met Jeff. Identifying himself as the manager. I explained the situation and my unhappiness he said I was rude but he would go upstairs and call Alan. I stated I would wait right here and he screamed at me that I would not that is not how business is done and I would leave immediately I did. July 10th Rusty came to dig out for my pool after a few holes in the yard his skid-steer broke down. I offered to rent him one, not wanting this progress to stop. He declined I continued to call and text Alan daily with zero responses. On July 14th I informed them of the equipment breaking down and my offer. On July 15th he responded only to inform me "We don't use other people's equipment" To this day there has been no other communication from Alan. On July 17th I received an answer from Backyard Leisure spoke with Jay who was confused as to why I was calling because my job was on the installers' schedule July 15, 16 & 17 so he was sure someone was there finishing. No dude you gave me to start first, called again on July 21st, and was told there was a checkmark by my name meaning job complete. Rusty came July 24 & 25th said see you Monday the 28th Nobody came. Spoke to RJ on the phone On the 29th I drove to Kernersville again. Jeff's been fired and I met RJ, very nice and said he was going upstairs to call Alan and I informed him I was waiting. He came downstairs and informed me that my pool would start on Thursday. I said "the 31st" he said no the 7th of August the morning if the 7th I received a text from Rusty stating he had me on his schedule for the 8th On the 8th he came out and dug more but came out with more employees Travis Chance someone else and a red truck that made sure he kept his face hid and parked on the street in the 18th Rusty and Travis came back Chance no longer worked there. The 19th as well. On the 20th I had water delivered then Rusty came back to backfill In all this, my electrician could not get the schematics or any info from the company. When my electrician inquired about the light placement, he was informed that I was not getting a light. I heard the conversation and I said Why am I not getting a light and they said It's not on your side contract? I then stated when would the stairs be put in because my drawing showed the stairs would be in before the sides being completed at that point I was informed I was not getting stairs because it wasn't on my signed contract I asked Travis about my winter cover and wiki be able to tell me how to put it on after my pool is complete. I feel like I'm very perceptive and I listened to the way. He answered my question and figured it out. I was not getting a winter cover. On Wednesday, August 20 while Rusty was backfilling I asked him how to add salt to the Perma salt system. Explain to him that I didn't even know where it was. He explained to me that the system is on backorder and that before mine there were five on backorder and now there are six. Poor customer service. Once they have your money, they won't return your calls or update you on the status of your order. They say they are handling warranty items but don't and now they don't carry the Hydropool brand basically telling us it's our problem now. The last technician they sent out broke our molding and didn't fix light like he told us he did. He never reported breaking molding so they haven't fixed it. Very poor business! read more

I would not recommend. I purchased a bullfrog hot tub from Backyard Leisure in April 2023. We were told the spa would arrive no later than 3 months. We waited until August & September to start asking questions. They continued to tell us that it was Bullfrog because of backup due to Covid. It's 2023, they had caught up! We actually called Bullfrog and they stated that Backyard Leisure had not payed them. They also stated that once they were paid, it would only take 3 weeks to manufacture & send. We took out a loan with Greensky, so Backyard Leisure had the money. We went back & forth with Backyard, Bullfrog & the bank. The bank thought there was something fraudulent & we reported them. After the bank was involved, we magically received our spa in November. I understand that delays happen, but it was ALL THE LIES!!! Backyard told us in August that the spa was being made, however bullfrog said that was a lie. In September, Backyard said the spa was on the truck, however they still hadn't paid & Bullfrog had not manufactured it yet. Lies, lies, lies. The guy there is very nice & I don't know if it is the salespeople fault or the company. But I would not recommend them to anyone. Also, if there is a problem, they will only come out if you pay the $150 upfront before they even come and look at the issue. With all the lies, I'm sure there will be more delays. Our tub is leaking & we have been calling for over a month for help. It took weeks to get someone on the phone & even longer for them to schedule a time to come look at the spa. To add insult they want money before they come out. I'm very worried to pay them before they actually get to our home. Very shady and untrustworthy. We had an in-ground pool installed over 10 years ago from another company & they are great. They unfortunately didn't sell Bullfrog, which is why we are stuck with Backyard with our spa. read more

But now it is another review to say I tried calling once again because our liner which we have only had for 2 1/2 yrs and used in total 6 months out of those two years we now have holes in our liner...which is very strange as we only have had our two daughters who are in there 20's using the pool and our family that came down ONCE to visit and it was all adults nobody that would be acting crazy in our pool to cause all these tears. We closed our pool the two Augusts and opened like around May/June so we are talking about a total of a solid 4 months of use in the last 2 years...so how could our liner have such damage???? No warranty I was told and when I was expressing how upset I was I eventually got a call from a guy Jordan to tell me they were replacing my liner but I had to pay $150.00 as a service fee and they guy would call me to set up a time to install...well that was NOT to install that money which I was NEVER told was for a guy to come out and take pictures only to now give me the run around about replacing my liner....NOW the owner Alan calls me today to not only basically tell me I am lying about Jordan telling me they were replacing my liner but that he would give me a discounted price to buy a new one and install....ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? I talked to Jordan a few times and he admits to telling me they were replacing my liner and that he told me that but he did not realize at the time that they had other intentions.....OH REALLY???? The owner Alan was so rude and talking to me like I was lying...I told him well your reviews speak for themselves...I am so disgusted I spent 30k with them ONLY to be treated like this!!!!!!! We needed some chemicals for our pool and decided to check out this new location. This place is huge! They have several pools installed with different surrounds and hardscapes , so you really get a feel for some of the choices. They have the largest hot tub selection I've ever seen and that includes Home Shows. They even sell a resistance swimming pool so you can get your "laps" in while swimming against the current. They have large umbrellas and patio furniture also for sale, from Casual Furniture World. The chemicals we bought are less expensive than Leslie's and the customer service was outstanding. The manager, Eric, knew we would be a very small sale but he stayed nice, informative and told us to look around as much as we wanted. I've never enjoyed buying chemicals more. We will definitely return. We feel like our salt water pool has been an investment in our family and happiness and it's been worth every penny. The original installers did a lousy job on the concrete so when we decide to upgrade the surround, we will come here. If you are in the market for a pool or hot tub, they are booked until August, so you either need to get busy or start planning for next year. Staycation anyone? read more

Backyard leisure gave us a great deal on our 24 foot above ground pool. They are also great at helping us maintain our pool from year to year by telling us exactly what chemicals need to be put in. We got aPerma salt system which requires less chemicals and no and it works great. They will still have numerous spas for sale and you Can get great deals drawing the summer. We bought a hot tub. Good product. Decent price. The issue is with follow up and follow through. We purchased mid June. It was supposed to be a 4-5 week process. As of mid August (2 months), I am still dealing with issues (with no end in sight). If you have the time to stay on top of them and be the one to call back even when told they will call you, then use these guys. I would recommend negotiating a final payment upon completion. Otherwise, they have no real incentive to actually help since they have your money. Sales side was great....delivery and installation, not good at all. I now have 2 pages of notes (I highly recommend notes as some of them have selective memories) and my issues aren't resolved. If you are looking for ease of purchase and delivery, find another dealer. 3/21/17 - back for more chemicals. Follow up on the backside is much better! read more

I order a Hot Tub from them last July and was told it was going to be delivered in January or February at the latest, and its March and they have no idea when I might get it. These people will say anything to get your money. When you call they don't know anything, you are at their mercy. They will blame it on the manufacturer and tell you they will have to check. I'm going to the Better Business Bureau first to register a complaint and then to my attorney to see if their "no cancellation" policy is legal. If I could give them zero stars I would. read more

That all stopped today when 1 mineral sanitizer had a price of 55.99..... while i am ok with a company making a profit, this is not ok. If you're thinking of doing business with Backyard Leisure, don't. You will regret it. My family was promised that our pool installation would be a seamless process completed by professionals. We have found out that the company does not care about their customers, uses deceptive sales practices (Eric), does not communicate with their customers, has inexperienced and unprofessional employees on the installation/grading team and will not rectify any issues. Here's a timeline of our experience and, based on numerous employees, there are many other customers who have had a similar experience: 2/13 - Paid in full for pool 3/24 - Grading scheduled - no one showed up 3/28 - Graders show up but were not prepared - advised they'd come back in the afternoon 3/29 - Graders say they'll come on 3/30 3/30 - Graders no call no show 3/31 - Graders say they'll contact me but never follow up 4/1 - Graders text after 3pm stating they'll be by the next day 4/2 - Graders reschedule for 4/7 4/7 - Graders don't show up 4/8 - Graders cancel at 7am 4/9 - Graders say they'll call later but never do 4/10 - Graders finally complete their work 4/15 - Installation team begins but cannot finish as they don't have the right tools 4/16 - Installer (Austin) watches YouTube videos to find out what to do but completes no work, still doesn't bring the right tools 4/19 - We send email to company asking for updates - no communication from anyone 4/29 - Still no communication - send another email asking for our pool to be finished 5/5 - Installation team comes back to finish (in the dark, without lights) - install steps incorrectly and unsafely 5/6 - After numerous calls, installation team comes back - regional manager (Jeff) promises to fix our pool 5/18 - Company's head installer comes out to fix the steps - also uses duck tape to make the stretched liner fit the modifications he had to make 5/23 - Backfill begins but crew has to leave to pull another employee out of the mud on another homesite 5/24 - Our pool is still not finished and the company doesn't care read more

We have had a very enjoyable summer thanks to our 27' above ground pool purchase from Backyard Leisure. Nate sold us the pool and has personally came out to replace a cracked ledge. He does his part to keep his customers happy. I love my pool! The reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to the foam we purchased hoping to ensure a perfectly smooth bottom. The installers cut it a bit short and it collects dirt where the pieces of foam were taped together. I would not have purchased the foam had I known. With that being said, I recommend Backyard Leisure as my pool is good quality and the staff are very helpful. read more

I thought this posted yesterday , but I guess I did something wrong. First they told us we did not need a permit, but we did . When the county came out to inspect our site, we could not put in the original 24 ft round pool that we had purchased. The salesperson gave me a price on the 15x30 for 2000 more and I told him I'd talk to my husband. When I called and spoke to the manager the next day he said , well the pool is 4000 dollars more , but we'll split the difference for your trouble. I knew he wan't being truthful because I had already gotten the price the day before! I did not persue this as my husband and I had decided to puchase the pool at that price any way. When they installed the pool we noticed that the uprights were leaning out causing the side to bow. After many phone calls , they finally sent the installers to look at it and agreed that they needed to empty the pool, install a new liner and refill, which was done in a timely manner. You can see the mess that the installers left on my pool .My problem with the company is that the manager tried to snow me in to thinking he was giving me a break on the price and the repair was very messily done. I do not feel like I was working with an honest, professional company. The pool is a huge investment for us and should not have caused so much anxiety on our part. I will be buying my pool supplies elsewhere! I would have gone with less than 1 star if I could! read more

We had an above pool installed approximately 4-5 yrs ago. We noticed the water level going down last year but slowly. When we removed the cover for this season the water level was really down. We began to notice that there were some holes in the liner -all on one side of the pool. We had a new liner installed and the installer realized that there were rust places on the walls which were causing holes in the liner. I called and spoke with Jeff at Backyard Leisure and told him what had been found. He got information and within weeks everything was handled. Jeff was very prompt and courteous and I couldn't ask for a better representation of that company. I won't hesitate to recommend Backyard Leisure and Jeff to my friends who are looking to install a pool and we will definitely give them our business again. We worked with Eric who sold us a 27' above ground pool. He was great and seemed knowledgeable. Everything went really well with him. It's AFTER you hand over your money that you're on your own. We were supposed to receive a call to get on the schedule for install. Never got the call. I had to call and complain in order to get on their schedule. After the pool was installed we immediately had a leak. After 2 phone calls with promises to fix the leak, NOTHING. We also have a rock underneath the pool that will eventually come through the liner. Their customer service as far as fixing issues in a timely manner is atrocious. You better have time to hound them or you're going to get nowhere. I would not buy from them again. read more

Dropped to 1 star. Should be zero stars. Be wise and don't let them con you they way they conned us. If you are building an in-ground pool, I suggest looking elsewhere. This company does not seem to be very experienced in pool building. They contracted out part of our job and had essentially one person from their Raleigh location completing the rest of the job. The staff is nice enough, but nice does not build a quality product. They did not deliver everything in the pool package that was advertised on their website. You will need to do your own planning and stay at least five steps ahead of them or things may fall apart quickly. You will need to actively communicate with them (in writing) so when part of the project goes wrong (and believe me it will) you will have something to back you up. Make sure that if you have any special pool requests that are not part of the standard package that you ask whether or not they have experience with your particular request. If the answer is no, do not allow them to "experiment" at your cost. Just walk away and find another builder. Also, I'd recommend negotiating the payment terms so when a problem occurs, you haven't already paid the majority of the cost. Overall our in-ground pool was finished after MANY preventable and ongoing issues caused by Backyard Leisure. It is a nice looking pool but I wish we had used a different company. My advice, don't rush into building. It's exciting to think about the finished project, and the fun you'll have using your own personal pool, but take your time and thoroughly research several companies before you sign the contract. I'm sure there's no perfect pool builder, but there is probably one out there that's better than Backyard Leisure. read more

Went to The Gboro store. The salesman was very friendly and I was given a lot of information before the purchase. Everything went very smoothly. I purchased $8000.00+ hot tub with some accessories. The delivery was 4 to 6 weeks. At the end of week 6 I had not heard anything so I called. I was told, "Oh yeah. Everthing is on schedule". At that time they actually made the installation schedule with me. Hot tub was brought out and set up. One of the accessories did not show up and it had to be installed BEFORE the tub was filled. I was told the item was back ordered. I called the store the next day asking about it. I was only told it was not at the store. I asked why it took so long for the accessory to be delivered. No answer. I was promised the accessory would be delivered in a week or so and all I had to do was drain the tub, install it myself, and refill the tub, and balance the water again. A day after it was re-promised I got no call so I called. The guy who answered the phone told me the item was in Raliegh and he would pick it up a few days later. I asked why it was so difficult to get this item. He then quite frankly acted like a jerk. After about another week I called and guess what? Still no accessory I paid for over two months prior. I was told the guy "forgot" to bring it from Raleigh. I eventually demanded my money back. Very poor customer service. I would not recommend purchasing anything from this store unless you can carry it out the door after paying for it. read more

We bought a hot tub about two months ago from this company. The hot tub was delivered to us with a scratch. We were promised that it would be repaired. The hot tub also does not go up in temperature as it should. We have called several times about getting this all repaired, spoke to several people and been promised that the repairs would be made. I bought an 8,000 dollar oval pool. We bought 6 truckloads of topsoil to cover the spots that they dug out. We spent over 500 dollars in water. The installation crew, which was horrible, made mistakes, and the straps under the pool came up under the liner. They had to come back out and basically re-do the whole pool, liner, water, everything. If you think Nate, the manager will talk to you, don't expect that, he won't. I wish I had never bought anything from them, and will never again !!! Not to mention that my pool is still not level, but I don't want to deal with them anymore, and I just don't even care enough to argue with them anymore. read more

We paid Backyard Leisure in the Raleigh store in full as required by them to start work a total of $16,879.91. This review is necessary for the Greensboro office that is managed and owned by Alan Mosher, who played the biggest part of neglect to our pool. They started March 24, 2014 installing a above ground 24 ft pool and were burying it for the underground look. After that initial first day they would only come sporadically. A hole around the pool remained open until May. In April the pool started to buckle so their worker built a retainer wall around the pool. At this point I became really concerned and requested for the head installer and owner, Alan Mosher to come and inspect and oversee the problems. He never came to job site nor did he ever call me concerning this. In addition I had a leak where I was having to fill water back in pool every 3 days, I never got anyone to address this. I have several emails with 3 different promised finish dates and addressing of all issues and concerns, all of which were never followed through with. I finally gave up that Backyard Leisure would ever finish and June 2, 2014 we officially fired Backyard Leisure and had no choice but to seek help from another pool installer. The new pool company, Raleigh Pool and Spas, started work immediately. Backyard Leisure had hammered a metal rod into one of the pipes and water was bubbling out. With the leak finally fixed we could now address the wrinkles in liner and some of the waves that were in the pool wall. He drained the water June 13, 2014 and as the water was draining the wall literally started collapsing because the water was no longer there to support the wall. Backyard Leisure had filled between the retainer wall and the pool itself with sand which without water will and did collapse. My new installer not only replaced basically the whole existing pool but also fixed all the issues that Backyard Leisure left. I now have a beautiful perfectly running pool, with landscape now and a fence. I am deeply disappointed in the total disregard for us as we trusted Backyard Leisure. I purchased a Bullfrog spa from these folks about 3 years ago. The control panel stopped working within a few months. It was covered under warranty and repaired. This March once again the control head malfunctioned. It too was under warranty. After calling the store multiple times, and waiting in excess of 6 weeks my tub was repaired. The warrantied repair cost me $265.00 for the repair man to drive from Greensboro to Boone. I has ask for a 24 hour notice of his arrival, that did not happen. I called and let a message for the owner, it has been almost 2 weeks and he has not returned my call. I would not recommend this store for anything. Great spa, find another dealer. read more

My family purchase an above ground pool on June 3,2017 the salesman was very friendly especially after we bought the pool. The problem started the day the grader came out to do our yard in preparation for the pool. The salesman had told us that if we measured our existing deck if the pool came above it or if there was enough space for them to be able to change out the liner if something happened to it down the road then the pool could go right up against our existing deck therefore no need to build on or build another one. Well that was wrong according to grader. Then came the actual day the pool was built the installers were very nice and polite. However NO ONE told us a thing about the salt water or the "board" that controls or tells about the salt water. They never even stayed to put in a foot of water! The water guy delivered my water and afterwards we put 8 bags of salt in the water and according to salesman we were going to pour 10 bags of salt in water but for some unknown reason we were reduced by 2 bags! The owner of the business has yet to return my phone calls and I have left messages!!Leisure Designs in Mt Airy have helped me more than anyone and I regret that I didn't go to them for the purchase!! read more
