She told me she could do it, but unfortunately, it became clear during the haircut that she did not know how to achieve the style. She cut my hair short and then tried to use a hairdryer and comb to make it look like the pictures, but it did not work. I showed her the reference photos again and asked if she could get help from someone else. She asked a colleague, who showed her how to cut the style, but she still seemed unsure how to do it. Eventually, the owner had to step in and finish the haircut for me. For a long-hair haircut that cost about $100 total ($85 for the haircut plus a $15 tip), I was very disappointed with the experience. At this price point, I expected the stylist to be able to achieve the hairstyle she had confirmed she could do, or to be upfront from the beginning if it was outside her expertise. Unfortunately, based on my experience, it was not worth the price or time.

First of all, I've always been a barber sort of guy, never really understood the point of getting my hair styled or figuring out which product made the most sense. My friend has recomended me this guy and I got convinced to give Zack a try, hi is also the owner of this salon. Now I am only wondering how I got by without him! Zack looks at hair like a sculptor or perhaps even an architect. Hi has an innate sense of what sort of style will work for you, in terms of personality and physical appearance. You can tell hi's really passionate about his work, and you immediately feel comfortable when you sit down in his stylist's chair. I booked an appointment last minute before a dinner party for an up-do. It cost me $90 for the most horrid up-do I have ever had or seen. They quoted me over the phone that it would cost $35, but when I got their they changed their story. I had no choice due to my time constraint that day. The owner of the salon ended up doing my hair, and he was just horrible. I looked like I had hair exploding on one side or as if I had a cone-head growing on the right side of my head. I was so pissed off. I was better off leaving my hair down. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Brianna has cut my hair for a while and she's wonderful - so sensitive, tuned in to what I like and don't like and precise (and I'm picky). I always feel refreshed after clean up or total transformation. Backstage is a large salon with cool artwork done by local artists that changes regularly, a friendly front desk staff, reasonable prices and relative ease in scheduling an appointment. Parking actually isn't that bad if you walk a block or two from Van Ness or one of the cross streets. They also give you free "clean ups" in between hair cuts. Awesome! read more

I came here for a blow out on New Years Eve and really was disappointed. My stylist kept saying how she wasn't supposed to be working that day and I only wanted a very simple blow out with completely straight ends. Somehow she managed to make it have a bit of a curl at the ends and the top looked wet/greasy with no lift at all. I could've done it better myself and ended up paying $52 with tip. Experience day of: I had a relaxing chat about what I wanted, he was so patient with deciding on the vision. After, I had a heavenly wash with mini head neck massage. Then he went in cutting off many inches and added hella layers. Then he did a wonderful blow out with round brush, a little light styling mousse, and hair dryer to get the look in the after pics. Throughout, we had a great conversation - Jonathan is all around personable, friendly, and talented. Two weeks later thoughts: At first I was a little hesitant on how much I'd have to style it but then I air dried my hair a couple days after and it dried perfectly enhancing the waves I have underneath (my hair is straight on top and wavy underneath). He customized the haircut to my hair perfectly. It looks great blow dried too but it is nice to know I don't really have to. still in love with my haircut

I am no novice when it comes to knowing exactly what I want my hair cut or style to look like and…read morelikewise, I feel that when you are paying a lot for a haircut, the stylist better be able to deliver. After my long time hair dresser moved to LA, I went through a hand full of other highly recommended salons and hair dressers, only to find that many just didn't want to take the time to listen to what I wanted and would make me feel like I should just trust them. Well, that obviously didn't turn out so well. The last person who cut my hair, I was hopeful would be "it" however, after the first 2-3 hair; cuts, I started to feel like that person never remembered any details about me, my hair or how I liked it cut or styled. After a year, you would think you could just ask for the same thing you had last time but alas, that's only if you're as cool as thier other customers who get hugs after each cut, while after each time you hand them a big tip, they just thank you and quickly walk off. Although, I would still go to them, I felt like I needed an alternate hair dresser just in case so once again, I took to yelp, only this time to find someone who was excellent at keratin treatments. Alas, I found Jessica and on the day of our consultation, rather than just do a blow dry and style, I decided that I just had to know if she could also deliver on a perfect cut (you know, the kind where you don't end up coming home only to notice one side longer than the rest or choppy pieces everywhere..taking off too much lengh etc.. Not Jessica, she patiently listened as I dished out exactly my vision of how I wanted my hair to look. I was so glad that she even came up with a perfect term to describe the kinds of layers I and so many other girls want but even after countless photos and descriptions, we still end up with a feathery mullet or when layers are cut to swing into your face rather than away from it. It was so nice once she finished that I got compliments from people who never even noticed before when I had gotten a hair cut. After coming home and checking my hair, it was all still pretty even and my lengh was still in tact. Although, it still wasn't the long layers in front that I wanted (since the previous person cut the front too short) she was able to fix it do it flowed nicely and blended in better. Please, don't hesitate to go and give Jessica a try! Bring pictures, give a lenghy description, don't worry..she's patient and good at listening!! P.S: or you could just make it easier on yourself and simply say.."give me that Victoria Secret Hair!" ;)

I had the worst experience I have ever had at a hair salon. I genuinely cannot recommend this salon based on how I was treated. I booked a **partial highlight**, meaning only around the crown of my head would be highlighted. I have long, thick hair, but because I only get partial highlights, this has never been an issue with any stylist I've seen before. From the moment I arrived, Gina was rude and dismissive. As soon as she touched my hair, she laughed and made faces at a coworker in the mirror. She told me I should have informed her that my hair was this long. Feeling uncomfortable, I even asked if she wanted me to leave, and she said no. Trying to make the appointment less awkward, I attempted to make small talk. She told me she didn't want to talk to me and handed me a magazine instead. When I asked, "So you don't want to talk to me during this whole appointment?" she responded, "Honestly, no." We then sat in complete silence for the next hour and a half. The comments only became more insulting from there. While washing my hair, she repeatedly told me how desperately I needed a haircut and made negative remarks about my hair. As she brushed it, she laughed and said she had "never seen someone's hair so matted before." She also commented that whatever "cheap" hair products I was using, I needed to stop. I explained that I was happy to brush my own hair and that my hair only becomes tangled after bleach is applied, which has been my experience after every highlighting appointment. She simply laughed and said, "We can agree to disagree," and continued making comments about my hair, saying she had never seen anyone's hair like mine. At one point, I genuinely asked how long it normally takes her to do her own hair because 2.5 hours felt like a long time for a partial highlight To her. Instead of answering my question professionally, she responded, "We're not all robots, hun." To make matters worse, she then told me that if I wanted my hair blow-dried, I would have to pay extra, even though blow-drying was supposed to be included in the $250 service I booked. She also said, in a confrontational tone, that she only wanted to dry my roots because her job is "actually rewarding, believe it or not." What upset me the most was that I gave her an opportunity at the very beginning of the appointment to decline the service if my hair was more work than she expected. Instead, she chose to proceed while making degrading comments and treating me disrespectfully throughout the appointment. I have been getting my hair highlighted for years and have never experienced anything remotely close to this. Every other stylist I've seen has been kind, professional, and respectful, regardless of my hair length or thickness. This was, without question, the most unprofessional, rude, and childish salon experience I have ever had. I will never return and would not recommend this salon to anyone looking to be treated with basic courtesy and respect.

Cara was extremely flexible on getting me booked at a mutually agreeable time. Since there was an unfavorable review about using a certificate for the service, I was elated when Cara not only encouraged me to come in on a busy Saturday, but she at no point flinched when I handed her my certificate. I sat in the chair and told her I simply wanted a low light of dark brown strands to even out my haircolor. The bottoms were that ligher reddish fade from a box dye a million years ago. She got her color wheel out and after consulting me on the colors and my roots, convinced me to put mostly lowlights in but to add a few highlights. to keep the color vibrant. I was unsure about highlights because I wanted very low maintenance hair, but I decided to try it her way. I'm so glad I did! The color was AMAZING and not 'highlighty' in that bleached out fake way. It looks so fantastic and blended. It's multifacited without being a shocking contrast. I love the color! As for the cut, I have curly hair so I usually have to go in saying, "No short layers as I don't want to look like an 80's hair band video, and please nothing too short in the front cause that can become a mullet quickly." Again Cara, who has curly hair, recommended I take significant length off the front to lighten the curl and frame my face better. She promised long bangs and long layers. Every snip my hair felt better. I didn't realize how badly I needed a cut till she shaped my hair. I had her blowdry it straight so I could see the cut and color perfectly. I was ELATED! After she took her time putting in two separate hair color lowlights and highlights in fastidiously placed areas, and a very detailed and not rushed cut, she honored the bloomspot certificate with NO additional charge!!!!! She didn't even try to high pressure me in to buying product! I of course did buy a fair amount of product (all very reasonably priced for Redken and Chi brand). I wanted to ensure this supreme color and cut looked just as amazing at home so I knew I needed high quality products. The real test came this week when I wore my hair curly and styled it at home--I am the kind of girl who can hardly place my ponytail centered so this was the true test. I got sooooooooooo many compliments. I NEVER get compliments cause my curls usually get funky, but the cut she gave really did make a great difference on how the weight of the curls would fall and how easy it is for me to do at home. I am so happy bloomspot introduced me to my new stylist! I will definitely return. It was a fantastic experience!

Because she always gives me an amazing new look only using scissors for all the layering because when someone else used a razor to get layers once, I had tons of split ends shortly afterwards.
