I kind of don't want to leave a review because I want to be able to get in when I need to. I've had HORRIBLE experiences with chiros and came in reluctantly due to the fact I just simply cannot move my neck. It's funny to watch - I have to turn my entire body when someone taps my shoulder - but painful to live. I'm lucky enough to be just down the road and after reading all the great reviews, scheduled with Dr. Schwab. First appt, I'm like..."ok, I like her!". Great vibe, beautiful smile and very well spoken. She did a little bit of this and that and sent me out for x-rays. A week later, after examining them, she got into it. This lady has some strooooong hands and knows how to use them! I'm three appts in and, while I still have to turn my entire body, feel definite changes and loosening of my neck and upper back. She really has the confidence a chiro should have - none of this mid-adjustment second guessing. I went in with zero expectations, but she's amazing. Really. Thorough, thoughtful and really talented. And the rest of the office is great, too. Very friendly and professional. Clean space. Lots of parking. Blah blah blah. It's a top notch practice. And to the guy w the review after me - who cares about their politics? Is the doctor good or not? I don't need to be their friend or agree with their world views. Can they help me eliminate my pain? That's all I care about. Shy of them having body parts strewn around the parking lot, anyway. We're way too up in other people's business. Support the people who do good work, period. I have more important things to worry about - like being able to turn my head. Love this place. Highly recommend. read more

It's a waste of my time and $49 to have just gone here for Invisa Red and see no result. They claimed that this machine might not work to everyone but I guess will it work at all? I can't find how this can be working to remove the fat or tightening skin. They must put the thing with red light on your skin and that's it! Simply amazing all the way around!! Front desk ladies are always friendly that I can almost see them smile behind their masks each time I visit. I've had nothing but amazing interactions with Dr. Ammann as he helped me through my back injury from a car accident. After coming back almost a year later for deep tissue massage, he recognized me (with my mask on) which took me by surprise. Lastly, I have to give a huge shoutout to Allyson, the best deep tissue massause, ever. I'm almost afraid to mention this because she's already in high demand but gotta give credit where credit is due. This place is not taking precautions against COVID-19. I visited this place for the first time today and had a horrible experience. The first thing I noticed as soon as I arrived was that people that work here are not wearing masks or practicing social distancing. In retrospect, I should have left at that very moment. They did take my temperature, but that was it. Not even the people waiting at the reception were asked to keep a distance or wear a mask. Crazy due to the current crisis. You would think that since this is a wellness center they would be more mindful of the current situation and take precautions to protect their patients and workers. Now moving on to the actual service, it was ok. No heating bed and the room was very cold. Workers here have very loud conversations avoiding relaxation. It didn't feel like a wellness center. I do not recommend this place. And really hope I didn't pay $120 for a horrible experience + get sick with the virus. read more

I first hurt my shoulder a year ago doing a combination of jiu jitsu and weightlifting and over time the pain was getting severe. I've been a patient at Back Bone Wellness Center for years and recently met Renee Carrasquillo. Renee does cupping therapy and it's done wonders with my shoulder pain. If you don't know anything about cupping therapy; it relieves muscle tension/pain, and can help improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. After three cupping treatments and lots of rest on my shoulder, my pain is tolerable and I'm slowly starting to lift again and feeling really good afterwards. I live an athletic lifestyle and trying to stay active with my 6-year old, Renee's been able to get me out of pain and back on track to recovery. Took my 5 yr old to see Dr. Chris Amman (pronounced am-man) yesterday and my little one dos great. Dr. Chris was fantastic with him. Patient, funny, explained things, and asked him questions. I was back in my hometown of Cedar Park for the weekend and my friend suggested I get a massage from Backbone Wellness. I was very impressed with the masseuse, Megan. She did a deep tissue massage and best of all, she didn't chat me up so I was actually able to relax. I had also been struggling with some issues and Dr Christy & Marquel were able to recommend some great supplements that have helped tremendously. Would have given this place 5 stars, however, I called today to schedule with Ashley, and she no longer works there. I had some shoulder pain and I was convinced I was going to have to go to a conventional ortho and possibly have surgery. A friend of mine recommended Backbone to me and I've been going for about 6 weeks now and my shoulder is virtually pain-free now! I've still got a ways to go, but it's not keeping me up at night, it's not bugging me when I travel, it's only affecting my workout during very specific movements, etc. I've been to Chiropractors before and it always seemed to be snake oil to me because they were all about extremes: "you need to see me 3 times a week for 6 months" or "you can only sleep on your back". I started seeing Dr. Schwab over 2 years ago. When I first went to see her, my back pain kept me in bed some days, and certainly many days after work. I have had back pain my whole life for seemingly no reason and seen various chiropractors, doctors and physical therapists with no relief. In just a few weeks, I was feeling dramatically better. Now, nearly every day is pain-free and I just visit every couple weeks to get back in alignment to keep it that way. Whenever I get sick, this is the first doctor I visit and the results are always great. Dr. Clinton is amazing! Over the past five years I've had ever test there is and gone to every kind of Doctor there is, for lower back pain and the inability to walk without a limp. All they could say was, "I see something's wrong with your back but, I can find out what is causing it. Here take these pills" A friend suggested I see a Chiropractor. The first one I tried couldn't find anything wrong. Then I found the BACK BONE. On the first visit, Dr. Clinton explained not only what was wrong with my back; she SHOWED me what was wrong and explained how she would help correct the problem (with out drugs). In a word I would describe Dr. Schwab's work: LIFECHANGING I first started visiting a year ago, when my back pain/neck/hip pain was no longer bearable. I have heard many horror stories about chiropractors in the past so I put it off as long as possible. But after years of heavy EMS work, a nasty car wreck, and carrying backpacks that weighed as much as I did - It was getting to the point where it was affecting my way of life. I found Backbone Wellness through Yelp and decided with much anxiety to give it a shot. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with cheery and welcoming faces, by some of the nicest and most professional staff I have ever met. Everybody there is just lovely, and make you feel right at home! When I met Dr. Schwab, we ran through my history, took xrays, and performed a series of test to see exactly what I needed done and develop a game plan to get me back on top of my game. It was an aggressive plan, and it took some time, but now a year later I feel tons better, even my posture has improved dramatically! I have never had a bad experience in the hundreds of times I have been there, and recommend them to ANYBODY and everybody, even if you don't have crazy back issues. She had amazing knowledge of sports medicine and can help you with just about anything that hurts and make sure you stay in tip top shape if you exercise a lot. As an added bonus, Dr. Schwab is also a nutritionist and has changed my life and how I view food. I have already lost a bunch of weight, gotten stronger, and gained so much energy from her program that is based on real science and not fad diets. I have been coming here for about 6 months and absolutely love it here. I have had a back injury since I returned from Iraq and was looking at surgery. I have had on and off back pain but this place has really helped relieve a lot of that pain. From the time you enter your welcomed by the always happy and upbeat receptionist/assistant nurses there. The dr's there are extremely proficient and knowledgable about the injuries I had. Also they have more equipment than any other place I have been, different things for different ailments. You can get deep tissue massage (amazing), chiropractic help, acupuncture and even physical therapy. I had the good fortune of being treated by Dr. Casey Hays for a recent back injury. The entire experience was flawless. The ladies up front were welcoming and cheerful. I was referred to Dr. Clinton almost a year ago after experiencing some lower back pain. She is kind, patient, and explained in detail what exercises/ stretches I need to avoid along with emphasizing the stretches I should be doing on a daily basis to strengthen my lower back. Dr. Chris Ammann is one of the best chiropractors in Austin! He is our whole family's chiropractor. I have two teenage boys that play football and we had weekly adjustments to make sure they were staying healthy and straight during the season and monthly adjustments to keep them healthy. The cranial adjustments really helped them during the season with all the hits they took. Cranial adjustments help in so many areas, concussions, sinuses, TMJ, just to name a few that we have been helped with. I had severe cedar allergies last week and went in for an adjustment and was with out symptoms when I left. Dr. Ammann has always gone over and beyond chiropractor care, he is more about total wellness. This was my first experience with getting chiropractic work done and it was incredible! The consultation was very informative and open. I worked with Adrianna and Dr Clinton! They both are so warm, friendly, and had a genuine caring attitude! They also were both funny and supportive! I first saw Dr. Schwab a couple years ago at the old location at Mopac/Parmer when I worked for the news and carried a 35lb camera on a daily basis. I had been having migraines on a daily basis along allergy symptoms (which I haven't had since I moved to Austin back in 2002) and she found that my C1 and C2 vertebrae were pinching the nerves there and causing the symptoms. It took a few sessions to get the pain alleviated but that was because of the tightness of the muscles due to the nature of my job. Once the pain was gone it never came back. I would go twice a month until I left news at the end of 2013 and hadn't had to go back until recently when I had a mild reoccurrence of the those symptoms. This was my first visit to the new location. The ladies at the front desk remembered me even though it had been a year, I even got hug. It's a lot further of a drive for me but worth it for Dr. Schwab and the fact that she remembered my symptoms and how to fix them. She was able to immediately tell what was out of whack and get it started moving back into place. The whole staff is so nice and accommodating from the front desk to the massage therapists. They treat you as a friend as opposed as just another patient like some other places. The new building is a lot bigger and gives them even more room to help fix any physical issues you have. Another plus is they are near two great pizza places, Brooklyn Heights and Tony C's so you can stop there after your treatment :-) read more

I have a love / hate relationship with Backbone. I do like the one stop shop setup. The Chiropractors & staff are friendly. And Dr. Schwab did adjust me good during and after my pregnancy... However, as a regular patient i went there on an emergency basis once because of a severe migraine (it was so bad, i was sensitive to light & had tossed my cookies right before getting there). I was left in the front to wait until everyone got done & was embarrassed sitting there with my eyes closed, nauseated & in pain. In an appt previously, i had waited for another patients emergency & now that it was my emergency, I was saddened that they were unfair. Rarely would anyone have to wait on an emergency in a Chiropractors office - if someone has a severe migraine then by all means help the person (as I would want in that situation). The billing is ridiculous. I just got a bill for services from over a YEAR ago! I had inquired about the bill at the time of service (for my newborn son that got adjusted several times) & they told me what I owed & I paid. (He was a cash patient) Now out of the blue they are charging me more. Both of us got adjusted at the same time & it took less than 10 minutes to adjust my tiny baby. The bill they sent was for like $80/adjustment for a BABY. Seriously?? Also, be aware they charge $50 for the neck jackhammer thingy they do after each adjustment (which only takes a few minutes). I guess I got into the wrong profession - charging $50 per patient for putting a jackhammer to their neck for 2 minutes! They also charge for "attended stem therapy" when it is actually UNATTENDED (the receptionist puts the sticky electrodes on your back and walks away until it beeps) If you have insurance that covers services, then go here - no problem since all you pay is the co-pay & you're done. If you pay cash - ask about how much each service costs before you start, so you're not surprised. And be aware, if you have an emergency - you'll have to unfortunately wait like everyone else... read more

I agree with Diane G who waited an hour and wasn't informed of the delay before she got there. I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time and had to leave or I would have been late for another appointment. I decided to leave after the next appointment when a complaint that I had brought up several times saying I believed resulted from the way he was adjusting my neck had led to an issue with my throat feeling constricted. His response was I needed to get an MRI. When a Chiropractor begins to dismiss your complaints as something else, let alone so costly and beyond their scope to determine as far as an MRI it's time to leave. Also, when months of going to them aren't resulting in overall improvement it should be the most important indicator. Don't continue on at the same Chiropractor, find a new one. Just like Diane G I found a new Chiropractor who adjusted my neck and fixed my issue with my throat as well as several other issues that had gone unresolved. We shouldn't have to live with more pain than necessary. Let alone believe that our issues are unresolvable because of one Chiropractors opinion or abilities. read more

I go there for great massages. Staff are nice and facility is lovely. However I went in for my first back appointment for lower back pain. Their appointment days and times are limited so I had to take off from work. I arrived early and checked in. I waited, and waited, and they kept not calling me back. So when I asked the receptionist, she said it they were over an hour behind. I was going to be VERY late back to work. I left and have found another chiropractor with better hours and who keeps to his schedule so I don't miss more work. read more

Wow! I just can't say enough about this Great office! It is so pretty and welcoming. I have seen both Dr. Clinton and Dr. Schwab and they are both great doctors! I had some issues with ringing in my ears and Dr. Clinton fixed it and made it go away. I've also seen her for back problems and she's helped me greatly with that too. They also offer a diet program and I am on it right now and it is going wonderful. If you are interested in that, ask for La Chanda. She is so professional and really spent a lot of time with me answering all of my questions. She has also lost a lot of weight on this program so is a perfect representative.
