We stopped here at almost 2pm. First thing I noticed was the place was clean and had a full salad bar that had not been neglected. At this time of day they had several tables full of patrons and several more came in after us. Our server was nice and checked on us during our visit. We easily shared a chicken fried steak. I had the salad bar and my husband had the baked potato. While I have nothing bad to say about this establishment, I found our food to be okay. Nothing great and nothing bad. Just okay. My husband and I drove from Robstown to eat there a lot, but not now. A while ago, they took egg off their salad bar and We understood why. This week we ate there and they have ruined the House Walnut Salad Dressing!! Do know if it was owner's decision, Chef's, or Ma Agilent, but We believe it was a bad choice. It is watery, milky or whatever that is won't stay on the lettuce and it doesn't even taste the same either! That's one of the things we drove that far to eat!!! Delicious home style cooking in Sinton TX ! We stopped in on our way home from Rockport. The burger we ordered had a large patty cooked to order and the fries were crispy and delicious! We also had the chicken salad sandwich lunch special and it was a hefty portion as well with choice of side and tasted just like mom made it ! We didn't have room for dessert but took 3 mini pies home. The family at home loved the homemade pies too. If u are in the area stop in for some friendly service from their smiling staff. Wow. This place is amazing. Great menu selection, amazing staff, and can we enjoy this salad bar??? Yes. I am a huge fan of this place for some down home cooking. We were greeted with a friendly face and pumpernickel bread and butter. Our server helped with menus recommendations. I've been twice and it's so good! I had the daily special which was chicken and dressing casserole. Even the green beans had great flavor! The first thing, I had the shrimp Diablo which is shrimp, a sliver of jalapeño all wrapped in bacon and then grilled with homemade mashed potatoes. Place was packed and took a while to get seated. Cucumber dial hand soap in mens room was a refreshing surprise and a nice touch. Staff was attentive but I hesitate to say friendly. The Menu seems similar to U&I and to be expected so I ordered my "go to" avocado salad. The portion was significantly smaller than U&I but the price the same, (hmm). I found a hair in my salad but it was more than likely from my beard so I won't hold it against them. Staff was very nice and did a great job. It is so nice to have staff that pleasant and professional. The food, was not so good. Had the fried fish. Hard as a rock, may have been cooked a tad too long. My wife's sandwich was small and ubitiquious, not the quality and portion paid for. All in all, could of just been a bad day in the kitchen, we don't know, but hope it was just a one off. Before the restaurant came under new management, we tried it and vowed not to return. We gave it another try with the new management and just weren't impressed. Again, hopefully just a bad day, but we got a bad meal. Great salad and bean bar, would be perfect if it had some dark green lettuces, but what the hay. I usually have one the specials or a half order of chicken fried steak. They come with two sides and there is typically five or six things to pick from like baked sweet potato, carrots, spinach, fried okra and seasoned green beans. They come with a great doughy roll too. Leave room for dessert and if not they sell homemade cookies at the check out. Yesterday I got oatmeal stuffed with walnuts and orange slice candy pieces. When it comes to upscale cafes, this is the Real Deal... a local's favorite place for lunch and dinner because of the down home cooking, great prices, and nice atmosphere. We've been eating here for years and always had a great meal. The menu has a LOT of choices: Chicken fried steak, yummy fried fish and shrimp, hamburger steaks, steak-steak, burgers, chicken, and blackboard specials. We use to eat there quite often. Once the business was sold, it seemed to change in quality. After our last trip, with poor quality food, we gave up. Today we decided to give it a "Re-Try". The salad bar is minimal and lacking. May need some attention to cut the lettuce up a little more than quartering a head of lettuce! I ordered 3 piece fried catfish @ $12.99. Mind you, that comes with the salad and bean bar. When I got the 3 piece fried catfish, they were way overcooked, Hard as a Rock! we informed our waitress and she said she was sorry. when she gave us our ticket, it was still on there. We left her a tip and went up front to pay. I told the cashier/owner or who ever she was, that was the WORST fried catfish I ever had! She said she was sorry and went ahead and charged us for it! I asked her if she was really going to charge for that bad food. She then said she would just charge me for the salad and bean bar. (uhm...that comes with it) I told her that wouldn't work and simply was not proper customer service based on the poor food quality. I told her if she charged us for that catfish we would never return. She did, so we paid the ticket and will write this place off. May want to consider 1) cooking 101 and 2) customer service. Let's see.....do the right thing for serving poor quality food and comp that portion . Maybe that could result in a return customer. Or act inappropriately with respect to customer service and cause customers NOT to return plus those they tell of their experience. it's not a hard business decision to make. POOR FORM! read more
