That's not what I asked for..... We travel a lot - and I do mean a lot. What that means is I'm always looking for a place that does good flat tops. NOT a given. This was my go to barber when in the Fort Worth - which is several times a year having family in this location. Until..... I like my flat tops ultra short - horse shoe. This time I got more than I bargained for. What I got was a burr. Yep - not just 0 on the side but everywhere. I've been going to the Back N Time Barber Shop since moving here a few months ago. First off, this place truly is "back in time"...a veritable museum of barbering! Where else can you go and get free sodas, candy, play a slot machine, make a call in an actual phone booth (on an actual coin slot rotary dial phone), etc? I always come to get my haircut from Ace IV. This is a family-owned enterprise, and Ace comes from a long line of barbers...his grandfather owns/runs the shop, and is on site (in the back) most every day. Ace IV gives an exceptional and very consistent cut. You'd be surprised, but since retiring from the Air Force, I've had a devil of a time getting a good "military style" cut from anyone else, but Ace "aced" it the first time out, and has remembered my style ever since. He's also a very personable young man, and it's been a pleasure getting to know him, and he me. If you want a good haircut, take a break from the chain joints and go "Back N Time"! read more

I started using expensive salons a long time ago per my wifes suggestion and have been overpaying for mediocre haircuts with gimmicky services for a long time. Hairstylists seem to come and go pretty often from one salon to another and we have moved a couple of times so it was not consistant ever. I felt like I had to explain the haircut over and over and just never have been able to find a place where I got the same haircut twice. I needed a last minute haircut before a trip one day and "Back in Time" was open. I met Ace who was very personable and found out he is the 3rd generation of barbers in his family and looked after things at "Back in Time" for his Grandfather when he couldn't be there. I left very happy with my haircut and decided that I would bring my son back in for a father son haircut the next time. My son (9yrs) and I made it back in the following month and not only did I receive another excellent haircut but Ace recalled details of our original conversation that I had forgotten. Its important to listen to your customers and Ace certainly did and it impressed me. My wife loved how my sons hair turned out too. Walked in here and wasn't sure how it worked since we recently moved. Saw 2-3 guys waiting at first bench and nobody else at the other bench. About that time elderly lady in back calls me to her chair. Instantly got nervous feeling but figured I'd give a chance since my hair grows quick and get a pretty simple cut. First time would have expected her to show me the cut with mirror. When I got home I noticed I had a gash line in my one sideburn. Upon further inspection, the fade wasn't horrible, but not what I would have expected. Saw middle chair barber (Eric I heard him introduce himself to man he was cutting), doing a great job on the cut he was doing. So I will give Eric a shit before trying a new place, but won't be getting her to give me another cut. read more

I have been coming to Back in Time for about 5 years. The thing I love about this place is that I can go here for a "regular guy haircut". If you want a permanent, layering or hair dye job, this is not the place for you. It's like stepping into an 1930's Barber Shop, complete with vintage chairs, signs and experienced barbers who know how to cut guys hair. After your haircut, they lather your neck with shaving cream and dress with a straight razor. What's not to like about a hot towel finish. They also have a compressor connected to each barber station and they blow all the hair off of you with compressed air. I really appreciate that. A couple years back, I had them remove my beard. If you have never had a hot straight-razor shave before, it's well worth it. They are in a new location on Hwy 377 near the Care Now Urgent Center. The old one in Watauga in the Albertsons shopping center was a pain in the ass to find parking and get out of the lot. I like the new location much better. The only negative is the wait times in peak periods. They do have comfortable seats to hang out and read the paper. You can also get your shoes shined while you wait. Mon-Fri 2-4PM is their slow period and a great time to get in and out. Back In Time: I'll give you the 4th star if you update the location on your web site! read more

Great atmosphere with a very friendly staff. I've been seeing Victorie for several months now and very happy with the work she does. She never has to ask what we're doing, and knows exactly how I want my haircut. I've referred a few friends to her, and they have all been pleased. If you don't know how to describe the cut, just bring a picture. I've been told by a couple friend's that Val does great work, but I haven't been to him yet, as I always go in when Victorie is working. They have a big vintage cooler in the back that has free sodas and water, with juice for the kiddos. The only down side can be the wait times to get a cut. If possible, come in during the week for almost immediate service. They are obviously doing something right if there is always so many people coming in. I can't say anything about any of the other barbers, since I haven't used them, except on that I wasn't thrilled with the cut years ago, and don't remember her name. UPDATE (5/15/2014): I just learned that Victorie is no longer at Back-N-Time, but has also been out sick for a couple months. In that time, I have been going to Val and have been consistently receiving stellar haircuts. I hate having to find a new barber, especially since I have ran across so many that cannot do a classic fade properly. I am very happy to have found Val and and still very happy to have Back N Time so close to my house and work. I'll go ahead and consider myself a regular. Also, show your appreciation for your barber and bring cash, at least for a tip. read more

Great place, just come in whenever you have time. Maybe you'll wait, maybe you'll get right in. They're not taking reservations but it doesn't matter, you feel at peace as soon as you come in. I think Ace does a perfectly good job, so does my wife. It's old school there, and they mean it. This is also the only place my six year old son actually behaves and gets his haircut. I love coming here. I've tried so many barbershops throughout DFW, and this place has the best service. Eric is the man. He is probably the most detailed barber I've ever had and he makes sure you are absolutely satisfied with your cut before you walk out. You can tell he really cares about each client that walks through the door and wants everyone to be happy. Took my 14 year old son here for the first time to get a hair cut. The atmosphere is so cool and totally like the old barbershops. His barber was Alexis and she did a great job! She edged him up with a straight razor and it looked so clean. This was the best hair cut he has ever had. My son was very happy with her work. Wonderful woman and a great place. I gave this place two stars because while it's a nice place it only has one good barber. The older gentleman when you first walk in is the only one that had that has not screwed up my hair. Like Dean B. says - great place. I was in today (8-28-13) about 2:15 P and was the only customer there. I got met at the door by Val who also gave me a great old fashioned haircut ( the kind I used to get as a kid with clippers and the shave on the neck along with just the right amount of "fancy water" afterwards). I hadn't got that treatment in years and it was just what I had been looking for. Victory (sp) then showed me around the place - it's big,red and comfortable and they have a nice collection of old fashioned stuff, including an old refrigerator that has complementary sodas and water. Also like Dean says - they need to update their location map - shouldn't be too difficult as they are in a strip mall on the West side of 377. I'll be back. read more

My search for a great cut has finished. I get a hair cut about every two weeks, and I have gone as far as Grapevine, Irving and even Dallas (I am a Keller resident) and have not found anyone better. I've got a haircut from Silva and all it took was for me to show her an example of what I was looking for.
